  1. Again, thank you very much. What do you mean? edit: nvm. I see. It's bloody expensive.
  2. Thank you. I assume it would make the process much smoother if we get one with existing title/registration and just transfer it over, yes? Or is it easy enough if you get one where the seller indicates that they do not have the title/registration (bill of sale is good enough, right?)? It is also cheaper to renew as opposed to new, isn't it?
  3. Could someone help me with some info on what it takes to "legalize" a boat purchased via private sale? My father (lives in IL) and I are looking at getting a boat which would be stored at his house. It would most likely be under 16 ft (looking at 14ft jon boats) since that seems to be the cutoff. I have already looked at the DNR site, but it's not as clear as I would like it, or I am simply having trouble reading it. What I need to know: Insurance? Do boats need it? Title? Should it come with one that I just renew? (remember: 14 footer) Registration? Same as title? Trailer plates? Trailer insurance? I know this all sounds like "duh" stuff to yous guys, but I/we have never had this sort of stuff (boats/atv's/trailers even). Prices would be great, but more importantly is just finding out what I need. I can find out the price later.
  4. Or, more likely, cause them to burrow in deeper.
  5. So the conundrum is: post on a message board you frequent to see if anyone has ever had this issue and the people on here are only here to discuss fishing stuff or Contact the company to ask a question. As far as I have seen from internet folks, it is a lose lose situation. Had he contacted Mega Strike first, he is wasting the guys time when he could have done exactly what he did (or done a google search). Instead, he chooses to ask around first and gets lambasted by (some of) you guys. He made clear that he was not knocking the product as well as stating that he would continue to use it. Sheesh, relax you guys. The internetz are far too srs biziniss.
  6. This is my thought when taking a picture. I am saying "hey, look at this FISH I caught". Why would I want you lookin at my ugly mug instead of a beautiful fish? Also, what do I gain from making the fish appear larger? I may as well just photoshop a tarpon on the pic while I am at it. If I am worried about the legitimacy of how the size is perceived, they make scales and rulers.
  7. Ctrl + V is the keyboard shortcut for paste (assuming you are using Windows, that is)
  8. Not sure how "new" this is as my Veritas that I bought last year, on clearance at Dick's, has the guides "triple footed".
  9. (snark incoming) Aww, boo hoo. I haven't even gotten out this year and it doesn't look like I will for quite some time. (snark exiting, thanks)
  10. I use one of http://www.berkley-fishing.com/products/tools-and-equipment/classics/tackle-bag-medium-powerbait'>these Berkley Tackle Bags
  11. Welcome home. Hopefully we will start getting some of the weather those southern boys keep bragging about and rubbing in our faces so we can actually get out and do what we all keep talking about. Fishing, I think it's called?
  12. I am having this dilemma as we speak since I am in the middle of placing an order with Siebert but I can only get a few. There are waaaayyyy too many choices lol.
  13. Indeed. Just a slight bit of inconsequential info I may or may not have forgotten. But seriously, it's a good way to catch the elusive "wood-mouth bass". You pros have probably forgotten the species.
  14. Hooksets are free. But honestly, it comes with experience. I am pretty much in the same boat as you because I can't get out very often. I fish jigs in heavy grass, from shore AND casting as far as I can, so I really have to pay extremely close attention because dragging a big ole jig through tons of grass, then trying to feel that slight tick ends up in A LOT of empty hooksets. Yes, people can say "when you feel this, set the hook", but somehow that has to translate into real world experience. Short of someone holding the rod with you while a fish bites and saying "there, that is a bite not a log", there isn't much someone can say. This is one of those rare instances I will advocate gear that costs a bit more. When fishing baits that stay in contact with the bottom, sensitivity is paramount. You don't realize it until you have quality gear, too. When I made the switch to braid, it was like night and day. Then, I got a better rod and it was like going from nighttime in North Korea to mid day Manhattan. I have gotten to the point where if I am with someone, I won't claim it's a fish until I can actually see the fish. My first time out last year, I was reeling what I was certain was a large log only to have a good size catfish break free right at the surface. I looked at my dad and said "Huh, I guess it was a fish afterall". Take this with a grain of salt, as with any information I post. I am open to being VERY wrong.
  15. Have you checked out http://www.lake-link.com/Wisconsin-Fishing-Reports/'>Lake Link? Perhaps not a bastion of info from pros, but plenty of local guides discuss Delavan and Geneva. Not sure about the others as I haven't checked.
  16. I was listening to the radio (670 the score) and they were discussing the course of events that led to Zack Greinke breaking his collar bone and Carlos Quinitin's subsequent suspension/fine. With Chicago being full of meatballs, the hosts were joking that a number of callers would call in and say that baseball needed fighting and catchers blocking home plate or that violence made sports better. This, of course, was said in jest and was meant to be in mocking fashion such that it is not possible that people could really like violence that much. Oh how wrong they were. Not only did people call in to say baseball needed the mound charging or home plate blocking, but that other sports did too. Tennis needs fighting. Tiger and Phil should have a boxing match for the #1 world ranking. Why do I bring this up? Because the idea that doing stupid stuff or being violent is somehow "tough" or "makes you a man", or that safety is not manly or makes you "soft" is apparent and far too widespread and frankly, ignorant. This thread is a testament to that.
  17. Why would people buy the most expensive gear? Easy: this is a hobby people enjoy and when people enjoy a hobby, they like to have nice toys to enjoy that hobby with. I have already admitted that at some point on the price scale there is higher quality (*higher price equates to higher quality). I have already ceded the point that the ultra cheap/budget gear is likely to not be worth the effort since you will likely have to replace it often due to breakage (note that I am talking about the $20 Shakespeare baitcasters and the like even though I, personally, have no problem fishing them). Ok, I have yet to actually say that second one, but I think I implied it. Is the difference going to be grand if you use a cane pole with a piece of yarn and I use a $600 something or other? YES. Is the difference going to be there at all if I use a budget rod/reel and you use a high end-look how much money I have-rod/reel? I remain utterly unconvinced. You could, however, provide better argument than "it costs more, so it MUST catch more fish". You've yet to do anything more than assert that price ALONE directly equates to more fish.
  18. That is an inaccurate metric. You are putting ALL stock in your gear. You are essentially saying that it is the gear that makes the fisherman. You are saying "if you spend more money, you will be a better fisherman". That is simply not the case. Also, I remain unconvinced that your proposed combo would by itself cause me to catch more fish than a Black Max (all other factors being equal). "I'm not catching fish today. Better go to Bass Pro and buy that $300 reel so I can catch a few" Now, would I prefer more expensive name brand gear if for no other reason than being shallow? yes. A million times yes. Do I also realize that more expensive normally (but not always) equates to better quality? Yes, yes I do. But to unequivocally state that more money equals more fish is borderline flatout...wrong. If you've got some evidence that says otherwise, I am all ears. We've already got personal testimony in this thread alone that disagrees with you.
  19. The comparison you've made is terrible at best. Why would you compare a childrens fishing pole to high end bass fishing gear? first of all, a spiderman pole is only 3 feet long. This post is exactly the sort of thinking I addressed in my first post in this thread. Why do you guys associate "Walmart stuff" with ony crappy gear? Do you realize they sell Black Max combos? They have the new Quantum EXO's as well. They also sell Power Pro and Sufix. Also Gamakatsu hooks. So this idea of Walmart only selling crap,.. is a crap idea. You ought to compare an actual budget set up. One that someone would actually buy for bass fishing. Like a Black Max combo that is $60. Give me that and all other things being equal, you have no distinct advantage. Welcome to the fray, by the way.
  20. The section of the Fox River I drive by on my way to work is really high as well. Seems to just keep rising day by day, too.
  21. Can you explain what you guys are talking about by "rolling" a fish????
  22. Well, it turns out the Dick's "sale" (if it ends in .97 it's an extra 50% off) is no longer available. The cashier first acted like she had no idea what I was talking about, then said they only did it around the holidays. So that makes it not such an attractive deal.....
  23. Loan me a few thousand bucks and I'll be glad to.
  24. It most certainly does. Thank you.
