  1. This is what's happening but it doesn't matter what I use for line. I'm going to read the link posted about the rod and reels and see if I can just find a rod that matches the reel better.
  2. So maybe just get a different rod that will match the reel better. Maybe something where the first eye is closer to the spool itself?
  3. Happens with any bait and I've tried everything from 8lb mono to 20lb braid and 15lb flouro. I bought the worm/jig rod which is what I usually use it for, but it happens on top water as well. If I am using ANYTHING where there is less tension than say using a spinnerbait, it will hit the rod. If I have a fish on it doesn't happen but Still feels very "loose" is the best way to explain it
  4. So I have a shimano Stradic 3000 (maybe 4000 can't remember) reel on a 7'2" shimano compre rod... I am having this problem where my line between the reel and the first eye keeps hitting the rod itself when reeling in. It seems like there is always too much slack... I've only caught a few fish on this setup and I Absolutley love it but this is something that makes me not want to fish with it... It's very hard to handle and gets frustrating quickly. Any advice is appreciated.
  5. Thanks for all the replies, I am going to eat a couple of bluegill filets and wait a while and see how things go. I doubt there is much of any human pollution if any. If I make a habit of catching and eating them I will get it tested. I also read that it is a small fish and usually feeds on insects and what not that don't contain as much mercury. The smaller the better
  6. I fish a local private pond that is loaded with huge bluegill. I would love to know how to tell if it is safe to eat fish from? It is not near any factories or anything like that. I cant see any signs that people dump anything there. But the water is naturally dirty mucky swampish. It is 40 acres. Max 20ft deep and has low water clarity. Weeds/lilys everywhere with a small creek flowing in and out. Fish look pretty healthy aside from a few here and there that looked like they got attacked. It holds perch, bullhead, pickerel, bass, and bluegill. Let me know If you think I will be safe or I will get sick. Only one way to find out for sure but I would like to get a general idea first. Thank you
  7. Sorry for the late response. I did get your PM and thank you very much I really appreciate it. Going to make myself something good!
  8. So I love fishing, but I have an addiction of buying endless amounts of random lures that I don't need. I would love to make my first lure and am looking for a little help. What I want to do is make a bigger version of a jitterbug. If anyone can tell me what I need for terminal parts I would really appreciate it. Also where to order them from. I am a woodworker so I am sure I could figure it all out myself, But I figured the nice people on bass resource would help get me there a lot faster. Thank you!
  9. Hey guys, I fish a local pond quite a bit and all the bass seem so skinny... I have caught maybr 5 fish of decent size 4-5lb but they look soooo skinny.. They have a v shape behind their head. I read the big ole healthy bass should be U shaped. There are tons or bluegill, perch, horn pout and pickerel in this pond. What if anything do you think I could do to make the bass bigger/fatter.. Take pickerel home to eat? Take bass home to eat? They must be lacking somewhere??? Any tips appreciated. Thank you
  10. Thank you I appreciate it, I will try everything that you said.
  11. I know there has been a thousand threads about this, i've searched for days trying to find exactly what im looking for with no luck. 1.When spooling my baitcaster I can never get it to spool as evenly as I want to. I use braid or mono depending on what I feel like that day. 2.When using braid I like to tie on a leader for abrasion resistance, I dont know what # mono to tie for a leader or what LENGTH to tie. (I also ask myself all the time if I am using 50lb braid what is the point of tying a leader that is only 8 or 12# mono??? 3.When casting with a leader I use a uni to uni knot, it doesnt seem to flow through my guides that smoothly or I just may not be used to it. Is there a knot that will work just as good with a smaller diameter? 4.Last if I am fishing for largemouth in open water and in thick cover, what # braid/mono leader would work best. If I use a 12# mono leader then fishing in heavy cover with the braid is useless isnt it??? Thanks to anyone who replies with usefull information.

  15. Hey guys, I am taking a trip to bassproshops soon and have some cash to spend. Right now I only fish a weedy 40 acre pond next to where i live, it has no bottom structure just mud or sand, and is a max depth of 20ft. The only thing I use right now is a T-rigged worm fished in and along the weedline in 3-10 ft of water. I am open to suggestions on what else I should try. Also I am taking a trip up to Maine with a few people and this place is supposed to be awesome for largemouth and smallmouth but I currently only have worms really. I have plenty of rods and reels and will be fishing from a bass boat in maine. Down here where I live i just use a kayak. Any suggestions would be great, Im only looking to spend 1-200$ its hard not to blow all your money there lol
  16. Hey guys, long time reader first time poster. I want to take my dad somewhere that has excellent bass fishing. He works all the time and I want him to feel good about catching a nice pig bass. He has so many stories and good spots from 10 to 20 years ago, but everytime we go to them everything has changed. Houses everywhere, trash in the water ect. I know you guys are finicky about giving away awesome spots or secret places, but I would appreciate it if you could help me and my dad have a nice time on the water for once( things dont usually work out as nicely as planned). P.S We catch and release, use 2 small 10 ft kayaks, and are respectable people we leave with what we came with, dont leave trash behind, cause rukus ect. Dont post your spot for everyone to see just PM me, I keep secrets ; ) We will probably only hit the spot once, I have a pond right next to my house i usually fish, I just want to get my dad out there to feel the fight of a nice fish again. Thank you to anyone who helps us out!
