  1. Both are great all around rods, just wait till you go from your SC2 blank triumph, to a sc3 blank or better on a St Croix rod... You'll be in awe...
  2. Wow Great! I like that even for my limited space in my kayak!
  3. Glenn has been a huge driving force for me to learn fishing. But what has taught me more than anything, is going out there being as stubborn as I can trying to learn and make a certain technique work. And seeing other people succeed made me work my butt off to be able to be the angler they are.
  4. I agree that the Pflueger President is a great reel, but I think i found its match this year. The Daiwa Revros 2500 is honestly the best reel for the money imo. It feels like a 150$ reel for 50$... It has been a work horse for me this year. Look them up!
  5. YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR IN FLURO. Lol drill that into your head forever and save the headache. Don't go buy segaur red label and try it as a main line. Pay 5$ more and get invisix... As far as other brands, the higher end stuff is much better theres no doubt about it. BUT, no matter what you go with, get line conditioner. This is the key with any fluro to go from okay to excellent. Don't cheap out.
  6. i'd take it back... I fish with all saharas from 1000-3000 size and they are all suppose to be buttery smooth out of the box.
  7. I do believe generally bigger fish tend to target bigger lures, but with many exceptions... my bluegill poppers I use on my fly rod get nailed by huge bass all the time and I set the hook and fight them for awhile, but a 3wt rod doesn't always move pigs well...
  8. Well, I know everyone else has said it, and I will reinforce it. If I could have one jig, a siebert arky head in 3/8oz in black and blue. Trim the skirt a little, leave the weed guard. Put a trailer on to match. And thats a winning combo. I have caught fish all over wisconsin in all different colored waters and situations with this jig. Its money, and the hook is one i'd bet a tournament on. He ONLY makes quality.
  9. I actually don't like the spinning M powered rods by st Croix. I think they feel a little heavy. I love my ML rage rod and spinning avids. With the XF actually they handle some pretty hefty lures. Just a personal preference! Enjoy your avid tho, you wont be disappointed. Mine are all matched with the new Daiwa Revros 2500s...
  10. Go to Walmart, get a Strike King Bitsy Bug Jig in black and blue for 1.99$ then go get a pack of BABY rage craws in black and blue. Get a MH Spinningrod and throw the hell out of it at structure. This will be a huge numbers bite lure. You'll have a blast, then slowly try adding weight to see what situations you get bit on with heavier lures.
  11. Be careful the squirrels and rodents don't get into it, you might have some mutant glowing mouthed animals running around. It'd look pretty cool! lol!
  12. Put it this way, I live a hour from St Croix... I bought my first triumph st Croix and thought it was a nice rod, then I bought a 6'9mlxf avid spinning. And it felt like a whole new world in sensitivity and crisp and how perfect that rod was. Now I own 3 of the exact same rod. Buy a avid with a lifetime warranty and enjoy it.
  13. Agreed on a small pick, always have to carry one anyways for those crazy back lashes. The little whopper plopper is a fun bait to fish!
  14. Well, as much as I love chatterbaits in the stained river waters up here. A Mepps #5 in HFT-Y (Hot FireTiger with Yellow Skirt) has won me a few local pub tournaments hands down. I've caught crappie, bass in crazy numbers, and even muskies on this one bait. I think people perceive inline spinners as a joke compared to hairpin style. When's the last time anyone you saw on tv bass fishing was using a inine spinner? When reality, I love inline spinners bulging them under the surface over weedbeds. Smalies hammer them. I think its just another part of this fishing market scheme. Companies just want you to buy their stuff and if it means showing a pic of KVD holding a rage blade, you're darn right people will buy it! Seriously though, inline spinners catch fish.
  15. Well, it all depends on the rod you fight them on?? Catching a 10" big bluegill on a 2wt fly rod, is a huge fight. But so it catching a 30lb muskie on a broom stick. Both fish fight like hell.
  16. Mine is a AVS69MLXF st Croix avid spinning rod... This rod has been the best, most sensitive rod I've ever owned. I actually bought it for walleye fishing and found it handled everything great... Love it!
  17. 600 is a steal! I actually work at a Feel Free Dealer, I've paddled all the feel free kayaks and love them! The Lure is a heck of a kayak for the money and the 16' model has the detachable sonar pod! This is a big deal because feel free is coming out with their own pedal/motor drive next year that will drop right into this slot. As a avid kayak fisherman myself, I loved the feel free, but its speed and tracking wasn't my favorite. The wheel in the keel and the seat, are the best parts about this kayak! Let me know if you have any other questions, just DM me. I have many hours behind feel free kayaks.
  18. Keep the rod tip up, let the fish tell you what they want. And don't be afraid to fish it around docks or even in open water!
  19. When I first used a wacky rig, I used EWG hooks to, it worked. But It was gawdy to me, and I didn't get the action I wanted, and the bigger hook got caught in the grass.. SO.... I switched to using Owner 1/0 Wacky hooks for all my wacky worms from 4"-7". And honestly, my hook up ratio is insane. These hooks are a little pricer, but they keep fish pinned. They are sharp right out of the pack and they keep the worm on without sliding off. Seriously try these hooks, and you will not be disappointed. It's rare for me not to have 3-5 packs of these hooks in my kayak at all time.. As far as weedless vs non weedless, eh I never saw much difference and why cover up any of the hook if I don't need to. Also, I do NOT use O-rings. It makes the hook lay parallel to the worm vs perpendicular. I found this to hurt my hook up percentage. Just my .02! The fish in my avatar was caught on that hook, along with probably 10 other fish that day.
  20. isn't it cool to catch smallies in a lake where you don't expect them? Here in northern wi, with smallies really starting to dominate... I've caught 13" dink smallies on 1/2oz poppin frogs, to 10" power worms. It's honesty a blast catching them and they fight like no tomorrow especially when they are river fish! And yeah, at 19.5" it sure isn't my longest, but its girth honestly surprises me.. The lake had a lot of crawfish swimming around so I assume its belly is filled with them..
  21. Honestly, just like everyone else says. Black and blue 3/8oz wire tied arky head. With matching rage menace in black and blue for a trailer. I've caught fish on this jig in every color water, every month of the season. Its a killer.
  22. Another Vote for the NuCanoe Pursuit! Sweet boat!
  23. Hey guys, I caught this smallie in a lake where there was only posted to have largemouth? It isn't super long but look how thick it was! Any Idea on the weight would be? have you ever caught a smallie in a lake where the DNR says they don't exist?
  24. Agreed, a blk and blue bitsy jig, with a black and blue baby rage craw... Pretty much a sure fire combo to catch fish... I love throwing it on a heavier spinning rod. Lol spinning rod help you fish slower, and slower with small jigs, just catches fish...
  25. Hey everyone, I've been getting into the kayak scene more and more with my new Catch 120, love it by the way. I have added a deluxe anchor trolley by yak gear and I made a DIY anchor float and have my anchor. I also put a crate in the back, and I'm trying to keep my kayak lighter and mobile, but still trying to have a decent amount of tackle and any things needed in a average kayak day. So my main questions are: How many rods do you tend to bring in your kayak? Assuming youre only targeting bass that day. How do you recommend storing tackle in a crate in the back? Especially plastics that can't sit in intense sun all day. Do you bring any extra tools? Clothes? Or any other little nifty things that help you in a a day of fishing or can really come in handy?
