  1. Im curious what you guys think about using these 2 Daiwa rods that come with the Regular Taper/Tip....for crankbaits? We all know that Randy Howell used the 7' ML to throw his crankbait to win the Classic. Ive also noticed that Daiwa has several of these rods with that taper. Im looking to buy one and actually knowing how much I throw a crankbait on going with the 7'2 MHR Lexa model and saving $50 as far as line size and everything it matches up with the 7' 1" MHR Tatula that Daiwa has labeled as the cranking model. Anyways just thought Id see if I could get some opinions on this before I buy.
  2. Whats a good Daiwa spinning reel in the $75 price range? Been switching everything over to Daiwa but dont want to spend alot, really dont want to spend more than $50-$60 because of the lack of use I typically get from a spinning reel.
  3. Like to know the model name but cant seem to locate it and the registration lists it as unkown. No big deal as in Indiana it is not required to have a title to tag the boat. Id just like to know anyways..... 1984 Fisher Marine with 50hp Johnson and some vintage looking trolling motor...lol

  5. I dont think I can pick just one....What I can say is my youngest son is named Reese Edwin, my big dogs name is Ike, my wifes dogs name is Lulu(G-Mans wife), and our boy's dog is named Hack...Others I really like is Jacob Wheeler, Tommy Biffle and Ish Monroe....But I think honestly think alot of guys are like me and its hard to say this guy is "Da Man"...so I think a better question could be who is your least favorite pro angler.

I use the pad crashers some as well, as well as both Ish's and Bobbys frogs by Snagproof. Actually just ordered a R2S Bully Wa....but when the fish are not that aggressive or if Im fishing with someone and they seem to be catching and for whatever reason Im not.....Its time to break out the Natty Red Spro. I fish a local refuge alot that as the summer goes on the duckweed gets thicker and thicker hanging over tons of coontails...So finding that perfect frog for that place I think is next to impossible because depending on wind and rain that has came through the thickness can vary alot from trip to trip. I just keep adding more frogs.
  7. Typically I throw it on a 1/4oz tungsten weight, a 4/0 EWG hook on a casting reel with 15# McCoy copoly
  8. Frogging seems to be a popular topic right now. So what is everyones favorite brand of frog and color? My go to is Spro Bronzeye 65 in Natural Red.
  9. Ive used the Quantum Dean Rojas rod for awhile(a red model), and a Duckett....Switched to a Tatula frog rod this year....depending on what cover your fishing I think has alot to do with what rod will work best for you. I think thats why you see so many using 7'-7'9" rods and almost a split between MH and H action rods....I think the best frog rod on the market is the one that fits your primary areas of frogging. I also found for me micro guides and frogging dont mix, maybe its how I hold my rod or the way I twitch....but my line seemed to catch the guides enough to make me ALMOST want to stop frogging.
  10. Anyone use these? Just wondering your thoughts.... I bought a 7-7 MRB for blades and first impression in the little pond in the back yard was awesome. But Ive lived here for almost 2 years and the little pond has no bass, when I went to another body of water to test it out and attempt to get a fish on it. The pond was 98% covered in matted duckweed so I didnt really throw it. This will change the weekend but for the sake of a conversation I thought Id ask.
  11. I cant speak on the T3, But I do own 1 Type R and 2 100 model Tatula's and I absolutely love them.
  12. Currently attempting to go to all Daiwa.... Tatula Type R 8.1:1 Tatula 100HS 7.3.1 Tatula 100H 6.3:1 Rods Tatula 7'4 Frog Rod Lexa 7'7 M TDT 7' M TDT 7' H (on its way)
  13. I have been tempted to try Sunline time and time again these last few years. However, I keep saying no. Why? Because I either didnt have the money or didnt want to pay the money. Then I started using McCoy co-poly and really liked the stuff. However recently I picked up some Sunline FX2 because it was just a few bucks more than McCoys braid. Now Im thinking once again Id really like to try Sunline....Thinking FC Sniper, and Super Naural Mono....But before I do....... How many of you have tried, or use Sunline in general and whats your honest thoughts on the line you used or use.
  14. I normaly first take my frog by the "butt" and let the legs fall and trim them even with the nose of the frog. Then I'll trim one leg just a touch shorter, most of the times you wont even notice it. In all honestly I probably dont even need to do that but when you find something that works, regardless if it really helps or is just one of those mental things you stick with it. Now when I first really tried walking the frog I had nightmares about learning this, seemed impossible. For me, it helped to keep a eye on my line and make sure I had a little slack in the line on the twitch. Not alot but just enough to get the frogs nose to turn when I twitched the rod. And once I get got it going Id take my index finger and use it like a metronome tapping on the rod to keep my timing. Much like most of us will do listening to good music with our leg.
  15. I use a Quantum Dean Rojas Frog rod which is a MH rod, with a 7.0:1 Accurist reel and 65# braid for the past few years......This year I picked up a 7' 4" Tatula Frog rod and slapped a Tatula Type R 8.1:3 reel on it with 60# Sunline FX2.....love the set up....in time my old set up could very well find its way to a new owner.
  16. Welcome to the club, while I may be new here. Im not new to fishing boards. When I signed up I used alot of cheap rods mainly the Berkley's (Cherrywood & Lighting) with $50 baitcasters (Abu Black Max and Diawa Strikeforce). After spending some time on these boards, I discovered there was 2 circles med/hi end guys and low end guys and slowly the low end guys was loosing numbers. Personally I was about to switch over to Revo's and Kistlers. However one day I was fishing with one of these guys and it was a last minute trip and I didnt have any gear. He stuck a Quantum Energy on a Kistler Mag. in my hands and it was over. Since that day Ive looked at or owned several diffrent brands of rods and reels. Ive wasted some money cos I beleive its more important to find that rod and reel that fits YOU more than what everyone else likes. Today I use nothing but Lew's Speed Spools on W&M Skeet Reese and Duckett Micro Magic rods. The one exception is my Quantum Tommy Biffle flippin stick. I think when you enter this stage, make sure you can afford it. Cos the nicer stuff you end up using, the more cheap the old stuff will feel. Im not tryin to talk you out of buying more Powells if thats the direction your headed, I just want you to know upfront. That there is a good chance that Shock rod will start to feel cheaper and cheaper and never get used. Also dont be afraid to think outside the box and try something no one else is using. And lastly buy use for now as much as possible. Less over head allows you to recoupe most to all of your money back if you go to re-sell.
  17. No one carries any lucky charms? And no eating a bowl before you go dont count.
  18. I started with Berkley Vanish, still use it. A few years ago I picked up a couple spools localy of Vicious Flourocarbon and at first was extremely happy. However, when the time came to respool and buy more line I started having all kinds of trouble with memory issues, no breakage though. I figured it was some bad stock I got from this local store. But I ended up dropping Vicious. However recently in my search for a better flourocarbon. When I would visit TW, I kept finding myself looking at the Pro Elite. It just arrived yesterday and I spooled up one reel. As soon as I get it out on the water a time or two I'll give my 2 cents on the line.
  19. Spinning or Casing : Casting Power/Action :MH/F Length: 6' 9" Brand/Model: Duckett Micro Magic Reel: Lew's Speed Spool SS1SH 7.1:1 Line: 14 or 15# flourocarbon. Been using Berkley Vanish for years, tried Stren Flourocast its awful. This rig currently has 14# Vicious Pro Elite but havent used it yet.
  20. I always though one of those Tarus Judge's would be the perfect side peice for a outdoorsman.
  21. One thing that seems to help me and has helped others is instead of watching your frog scan around for your next cast. This does 2 things.... 1. Delays your reaction, you will hear the sploosh and not see it helps prevent setting the hook to early. 2. Seems to me 9 times out of 10 if you really arnt paying attention thats when something will happen.
  22. I mean something you will not leave with other than a cell phone, snacks, drinks etc...... I ask cos I just turned 35 Friday, got up and was getting my stuff together. And suddenly I look in my dry box, where's my Icy Hot? O man....running around.....turning the house upside down. I knew I should of took it out applied a little and put it back!!!! Finally found it....what a releif. When the though cross's your mind w/o it do I really want to go? Got me wondering what type of stuff do you guys HAVE TO HAVE to go thats not on the average anglers list. What is your "Maintence Wipe"? Swindle fans know what I mean.
  23. I basically fish 2 place's like this, one has became a year round mess. It has a ramp but at time even on a boat your done in a hour or so cos about 90% of the bank has lines leading back to the bank, and its not a very big place. The other place is bigger and no ramp, but you get alot of people out there. Ive found the best time to go there is early. Check your weather forecast get the sunrise and hit it. This 2nd place has some good fish in it, but you have to really fish it to find the good one's Id say on average for every 50 9" or less bass I catch I catch 1 one quality one. Even lost a HUGE one, at least for me easy 7# class fish made a bone head mistake at the bank and pop fish gone. So just cos your not seeing alot dont give up. I'll tell you another thing that is fun imo, I went out one day a 2 springs ago and was throwing a shakeyhead. One guy constantly telling me that I needed to switch from b/c and start throwing UL or my baits was to big or something. Was giving me grief over throwing a shakeyhead instead of a wacky rig. Kept going on and on bought how I wont catch anything bigger than he has or the numbers. I work my way away from him and bam, suddenly land a 5#'er. Bunch of kids are flipping out, he's close enough to know. I take a pic and start looking for him, he's shaking his head getting in his truck. Have not seen that guy there since and I got probably twice a week.
  24. Very cool, kinda sounds like one guy wanted to help the other guy was being a .................... But you have those kind of things happen. IMO the best thing is to shake it off and dont sweat it, let it stick with you to long and you could be the one in the boat getting asked for help. And suddenly you'll recall this and think I didnt get no help, dont want to be that guy. I still rember my first frog fish as well. It was about 3 years ago, early spring shortly after the ice out. A buddy and I was on our 3rd pond of the day and had caught 1 dink and a big bull frog. I tied one on just to work on walking the dog figured nothing is biting so lets take this time to practice something I cant do. Im standing there working this frog talking (screaming) across the pond at my buddy, we are debating on leaving when all of a sudden I hear SPLOOSH!, and my rod is almost jerked out of my hands. When I set the hook, I instantly yell back across the pond....Get your..........over here!!! Im using a Tommy Biffle sig series rod, a broomstick if you will, and this fish is freakin me out thinking Im going to snap my new rod. Get ole gal to the bank and stick her on the scale....5-12, 2nd biggest fish of my life! To say I was hooked on frogs was a understatement.
  25. I stopped reading about half way down. But Ive owned several, diffrent Q's and since the PT stuff arrived havent had a issue. 1 thing though, quantum has one of the best warranty programs out there on the rods any who can only assume the reels are covered just as well but you have to fill out those warranty cards. One reason I left Quantum is because of the constant "upgrade" of exsiting reels. Them and Kistler seem the worst at introducing new exsiting models seems like every year. As much as they do it they should just call a Energy reel a 2013 Quantum Energy PT, then a 2014, 2015 etc etc. Bought 4 years ago my now Wife, bought me a E770 for my b-day she paid $189.99 for it at a local shop. Fast forward to today, I got $75 out of it. I know a 4 year old reel is going to drop. But at the same time Quantums on somewhere between the 3rd and 4th Energy in that time frame. Any time that occurs if you want to sell your "2013" model better do so a few months before Icast! I dont know what year Abu introduced the Revo but they are just now on Gen 3. Can't speak for some other brands cos I dont follow them.
