  1. So far not so good... the 4 coil doesn't cast worth a d**n, or at least I think it's because I got the 4 coil. If i used my heaviest lures I could get it to cast decent, but anything even slightly lightweight and it went nowhere. Pretty dissapointed, might just return this thing. Will be practicing for a bit. It's dissapointing, because the thing feels so high quality.
  2. That's good to hear... what do you usually throw with it? I love the idea of the slingshot method for when I'm out on a kayak. A pond i usually fish is lined with bushes all around the edge hanging over the water, very difficult to get to from where i sit in my kayak. Should be great with the emmrod. Do you have any different tips? I'm getting the 4 coil, but I want to see how well the other coils cast.
  3. Well guys all sorts of different opinions, but ultimately I went with the veritas. Really appreciate all the help! I'll be keeping an eye on the other suggestions in here as in a few months I may consider buying another good rod.
  4. I ordered mine I'm gonna give it a shot... they have a satisfaction guarantee. I've read all different reports. some say it casts great if you use it right, others say it can't cast more than 20 feet. I'll give it some tries and if not I'll send it back. Either way I'll report back with some impressions and pics. Anybody who has one... have you tried different coils? I went with 4 which I'm nervous about for lighter baits.
  5. I think it can be used for some recreational situations, particularly kayak fishing on a budget. Much easier to make accurate casts and a lot more convenient.
  6. Lots of great stuff in here guys thanks a lot. Specifically about the veritas... any truth to the guides being a little fragile? The majority of the complaints are about the guides falling out.
  7. At 100 dollars can I get what I'm looking for? I'm looking for a solid rod with good casting distance and decent enough sensitivity. I was thinking of going after the abu veritas, but have read some mixed reviews. Also I don't know if I should buy at walmart, or at dick's, or maybe online. Some say ***, others say ebay. Any suggestions?
  8. Welp just ordered one... christmas present anyways, hopefully it works out.
  9. What about the rugged flex and the sensitivity? Read a few sites that you can feel everything it's touching with the right setup. edit- also hows the casting distance? Sorry for all the questions, how many coils should I get? I look to use this rod mostly as a secondary rod, but I also do a ton of kayak fishing.
  10. Has anyone ever had a chance to try an emmrod? These seem great for pond fishing and light tackle fishing. I fish a lot of more difficult to reach ponds from shore with very tight casting room. It seems they would also be really easy to grab and use for a quick fishing trip. What's the word on them?
  11. Hmm I'll have to try that. Tried some jerk baits really slow today as per other recommendations. Thing that sucks about jigs around here is all the pounds are just littlered with crap on the bottom, can't do much but come up filled with muck.
  12. That would be nice. I know they're tools, but I like keeping my things pristine, just an OCD thing.
  13. What do you guys think of spinnerbaits fished really slow?
  14. That's what I've been hearing a lot of... hmmm I guess I'll go for the Gen 2 then. Anyway to prevent the issues with the boat rash?
  15. So I'm ordering my gear for next year. I was all about getting the MGX, but most have actually been saying the premiere is better. So I figured Premiere 3 it is... now some are saying the gen 2 is better? Can somebody explain? So is premiere 2 over the gen 3/and mgx the right choice? I can get a pretty great deal on one as well. Thanks for any help!
  16. Sorry for the late response. Thanks for all the advice guys, but I came up empty :-/. Will be trying again probably on Saturday, hoping for the best.
  17. It's not even officially winter, and already I'm getting the itch. I live in MA so it's been pretty cold off and on here. A few weeks ago the water was starting to freeze a bit, but it's warmed up a bit, I really have no idea what that means for water temps, as I've really only just recently gotten more seriously into fishing. I usually fish local ponds, but was having absolutely no luck whatsoever throughout october, so I've hung it up since then. I've decided to head out later today. What should I bring with me, and what should I expect? Also what type of water should I fish? The shallows, the deeper parts, etc. Keep in mind the areas I'm thinking of fishing are very small ponds so their really isn't a whole ton to look for. Any help is appreciated!
  18. I sincerely doubt it.
  19. May I ask what could kill a pond? Is there an invasive plant or creature that would clear out fish? As far as I know nobody has touched this pond in years... shouldn't the fish have thrived? it's definitely deep enough for them to survive the winter, and it's a fairly large pond. I was nervous that the weeds on the outside were milfoil, but I was reading that really shouldn't effect the fish.
  20. Would they still live under them without the oxegyn supply though? Also is it possible they just turned that color from the muck in the pond? Might be a stupid question. I'll give that a shot. I'm actually about to head down in about an hour. Really overcast right now so hopefully they'll be a little more active. I'll try to get some pictures up today.
  21. I read the weed beds give oxegyn also, but it's only a good indication if the beds are green. In this case they seem to be brown/rust colored... however like I said both times I caught the bass they were under these beds. I definitely want to try the jig in the beds...however how should I approach this? Should I punch it directly under the bed? These bedsclearly have a lot of space underneath them. As for the depth of the pond I would say at its deepest it's about 8 feet deep, which is a sort of basin in the center, and through the middle on average around 5-7 feet. On the edges it can vary from anywhereas shallow as just under a foot, to about 4 feet. I'll see if we can get the boat out there tomorrow toget some good pictures, if not I'll take some shots of the little sport I can fish some to give you a better idea.
  22. Alright so there's a pond about a half mile into the woods near my house. A neighbor of mine used to own and keep this pond in shape stocking it with all sorts of different fish. Probably 10 or more years ago we went down there and caught all sorts of fish- Blue gill, Yellow Perch, pickerel, Large mouth, and even some catfish. We caught the biggest fish I had ever seen back then (probably only about 4 pounds, still really big for me back then) Now years later my neighbor has moved away and the pound has really gone down hill. Last summer a couple of my friends and I headed down to this old pound, which was now all muddy around the outside and completely overgrown. Things looked pretty bad until we tossed in some senkos, pulled up 3 or 4 Yellow Perch, no bass after walking the whole thing and fishing for a few hours. This summer with my new equipment I decided to take a walk down there again. everything is so overgrown you can really only access two points. from these small points I managed a tiny blue gill on a shiner, a bunch of small bites on senkos and small hits on top waters such as heddon torpedo or the rebel Pop'r, and the highlight point was what looked like a bass nailing a red devil, which I was simply bobbing up and down in front of the weedbed. We took a small boat out on this pond and fished the entire thing, not managing a single fish after 3 hours until the very end. We saw a decent sized ripple in the water and tossed a senko right on top of it. Right away my friend pulled up a 2 pound Large mouth. So here's where I get confused. I've fished the hell out of this thing in several different ways. I'll paint a quick picture. The pond is fairly oval shaped, with large weedbeds outlining the entire thing. Frogs are EVERYWHERE on top of these ridiculously thick/heavy weedbeds. The weedbeds don't look so good, as they're sort of rust/brown colored, but every fish I've caught so far has been right under these things. So here's what I've tried. 1. Spinnerbaits running in all different ways right along the edge of the weedbeds. 2. senkos and shads along the edge.- Landed a Largemouth 3. top waters- Pop'r, hula popper, and jitterbug all different colors. 4. spoons- Hooked a largemouth. 5. A tiny bit of jigging. What should I try now? Is it even worth fishing it still? I imagine if the fish have survived all these years, there's potential there.
  23. Just started the Pop-r this season actually. Other than that black jitterbug late late night... can't be beat.
  24. Decided it's time to start posting on forums and get some good discussions going! I live on the North Shore and have been doing a ton of fishing this year. I usually do mostly Saltwater, but this year I've really balanced the two, freshwater by day saltwater by night. Been a really successful year for me, caught around 15 keeper stripers (practice only catch and release though), most around 30", biggest being 33". I caught the 2 biggest large mouth in my life this summer. 1st was 6.5, the other I can only guess, but I'd say it had to be 10+, quite a story really. Anyways hopefully I can catch on and learn stuff from the more experienced fisherman here!
