Awesome. I was thinking the constant movement when trolling would mane it hard to effectively present a suspending jerk. So francho, you would prefer to troll a floating jerkbait?
Have any of y'all found that trolling suspending jerkbaits for black bass is effective, particularly out of the kayak? What are your favorite trolling lures for black bass? So far, I have had success trolling from one spot to another using a mid diving rapala crankbait, but I'm looking to expand my trolling repertoire.
I used to have a pet bass in my aquarium. When he would eat the feeder fish off the bottom, he would suck in several of the small rocks layering the bottom of my tank. Immediately after sucking in the prey, the bass would expel all of the rocks from his mouth. I can only assume it does the same thing with a big ball of weeds.
You should be feeling for any tics, change in pressure (i.e. more or less resistance or tension on the line), and anything that feels different in general!
Based on advice gleaned here, I Always keep a finger on the line, whether fishing spinning gear or casting. I mainly fish weightless soft plastics, and my bite detection has improved tremendously since doing this. Oh, and florocarbon doesn't hurt either.
No, that is correct. Freeze water bottles so that you can keep the water from getting too hot. If your cooler has decent insulation, the pump alone will keep the water pretty cool.
Nice fish man!! You are dead on about the visceral feeling of hooking into bass while standing in Their living room! There is nothing like hooking a nice one and having him swim all around you. It's a closeness with nature that even fishing in a kayak can't compete with.
