I used a DX744 for 3/8 and 1/2oz spinnerbaits and i thought it handled them just fine. Everything I hear about the 733 though, that should be OK too. Either way, I don't think you can go wrong. And who doesn't need more rods, right?
I wonder if they'll even put them on sale. Is Shimano supposed to be coming out with something that will take its place? I could almost see suppliers selling out just for the simple fact that they won't be getting anymore in and people want to get their's before they're gone.
I've heard rumors about the Core being discontinued for a little while now. I just saw another post on another forum (not citing any references...) stating that the Core would be discontinued for 2015 with the exception of the 50mg7. Does anyone know anything concrete about this?
I throw spinnerbaits on my crankbait rod, or my worm/jig rod. And sometimes I throw crankbaits on my weightless plastics rod. So, yeah, I throw all kinds of stuff on my fishing rods.
I'd lean towards the 50 size since you probably won't be long bombing squarebills. The 200 palms well, but the 50 palms so much better, at least to me.
This was the biggest thing I had to get used to. I'm used to heaving my lures out there a lot of times. That made for backlash city a few times. It's crazy how effortless casting this reel is compared to other reels I've used.
Rods I would look at would be the St. Croix avid of rage, Phenix m1 or recon, Powell Max or endurance, fenwick elite tech or aetos, or daiwa tatula. Reels, I would look at spinning reels in the 50 ish range, like the shimano Sahara or Pfleuger President.
Tp just because palming is one of the biggest factors I look for when considering a reel. If it doesn't palm well for me it doesn't come into the equation.
