  1. +1 more for Strike King. They should be at pretty much any store that has any kind of fishing department worth mentioning and definitely not too expensive if you're just looking to tie you over till your northstar order.
  2. Cool. Thanks guys! I'll look for either some lighter flouro or Yo Zuri next time I buy some more line.
  3. Pretty much just craw style for me. If I'm swimming a jig I'll probably put something else on there
  4. What line would yall use on a M/F spinning reel for shaky heads, drop shots, lighter weight/weightless t-rigs? I have 10lb mono on my reel now just because thats what I started out fishing with. Don't plan on fishing around super heavy weeds or anything but will be in and around some lighter hydrilla, docks and probably some rocks/riprap. I currently have 12 lb Yo Zuri and 15lb Braid... and more 10lb mono that might make sense. Definitely don't mind buying more line but if you think I can get away with what I have now I wouldn't mind that either. Thanks!

  6. OW! Glad to hear you're alright. My brother caught himself in the front of his neck on the back cast fly fishing one time. Fortunately it was a very very small hook on the fly so clipping it wasn't that big a deal. Still kinda wild to see that fuzzy fly stuck on his neck. I couldn't imagine getting stuck by a treble hook like that though.
  7. Good read. Never tried "wacking" a jig before though, might have to try it out sometime.
  8. usually brown. maybe something else like black/blue if youre feeling crazy
  9. For some reason I've heard about durability issues as well. However, I've never had any what so ever and I think most people you talk to will say the same. I really dont think you can go wrong with any of them that youve mentioned so just go with what feels/balances best
  10. I T-rig craws also. Don't have any areas that I need to punch through weeds yet but they seem like they would be really good for that too.
  11. I usually lose them first
  12. one more for green powerpro
  13. I'm pulling this from my experience. Do you pop them high enough so they get enough room to fall or just scoot them across the bottom? And, do you let them sit on the bottom and twitch your rod? I've honestly had more fish subtly pick my jigs off the bottom when I'm just giving it that little bit of movement than when they fall. I also pop my jigs twice in succession - pop pop, sink. I feel like if I don't get them up high enough to really fall I don't get that reaction bite as opposed to when they get up enough and drop down. Not saying you have to break the surface or anything.
  14. I reverse rig the fat ika's with a 4/0 ewg hook and fish them weightless. Just sweep it off the bottom and let it sink. It has super sweet action on it. I caught several LMs the first day I used them. And jigs... so much to say about jigs. What cover are you fishing them in?
  15. A+ for jigs and fat ika

    Jiggin'

All of these depend on where you are fishing. Best Jig? - Brand is going to be different from person to person so I won't even bother with that so I will say this instead: - Football head jig - best fished around rocks - Arkie head jig - best around wood and for skipping - Alien head jig - best around weeds - Swim jigs - obviously for swimming There are other heads out there (rocker, ball, etc.) but these are the most common and what I fish. Best color? - Personally I like black/blue. But keep it simple - black, brown, watermelon Best Trailer? - This also depends. Most people will use craw trailers but you will find a very wide variety. Put something back there with a lot of action to get reaction strikes Best technique? - Again, depends. I like to hop them through weeds with a hop, hop, sink, pause and twitch for 5 seconds, repeat pattern. You can drag them across the bottom. Swim jigs fish similar to a spinnerbait or even a crankbait, make it erratic. ALSO, check out the how to videos here. Gene has several videos all about jigs. http://www.bassresource.com/bass-fishing-videos/#0 Hope that helps a little
  17. Rooster and RW gave you some awesome groundwork to base your decision off of. The one thing I will say is to be mindful of the conditions/cover you are fishing and what lures you will actually fish when starting out. Whenever I listen to pro's and read stuff online about different set ups, I find it easy to get sucked into thinking I need every different rod/reel combo you can think of. Look at what RW said and build from that. You should be able to fish pretty much everything with those three set ups, find what you like/what is effective and go from there. No need to spend a ton of money on something that looks good on paper but never gets used. With a little more info on where and what you will be/want to be fishing we can help you more with what equipment to use.
  18. Probably not. Send the ones you don't need to me. I'll take em free of charge
  19. Starting to blow it up on spinnerbaits a lot more now. Also trying my luck on chatterbaits and will look to start swim jiggin' soon too. Usually jigs, t rigged and weightless worms and squarebills serve me well more than anything else though.
  20. One thing I've started doing is buying lures for the season so I don't overwhelm myself with 100s of different options. Its so easy to go pick stuff up off the discount rack at Dick's and never really use them. For example, I heard chatterbaits were great lures. So, I picked up a bunch at the beginning of summer, and fished them around wood... Probably not the best choice. I wound up losing all of them and didn't catch a thing haha. Now that bass are starting to move up a little more shallow and chase bait fish I have been working on throwing chatterbaits (and spinnerbaits, which I've not had success with in the past either) and am now having success and able to focus primarily on learning these lures instead of random stuff I found on sale.
  21. I'll echo hooah here and say to make sure the hook is on there straight. It actually makes a big difference and can even distort the action for worms.
  22. Ive had that happen before too with the trailers you get with chatterbaits. I just keep my soft plastics in the original packs.
  23. Mojo is solid too. I've played around with them a lot and heard more than enough of good things. I really want to get one when I recoup my money.
  24. 12 lb Yo Zuri. I use it for everything you just mentioned and its very easy to manage on your reel.
  25. Cool, thanks basshunter. Just posted in the "no more spending" topic. Just found something else I need to buy haha.
