  1. It looks sick! I wonder how it compares to the Tournament SS.
  2. Ditto what TN said. I have 2 and had no problems what so ever, unless catching fish is a problem . I've said this a few times on here, but I've hardly heard of the Veritas rods breaking. Not saying it doesn't happen, but no rod is indestructible if you try to pull a tree out of 15ft of water. As far as being a broomstick, I don't think so. They are probably closer to a heavy power than a MH power when compared to other rods, but I like that, especially for fishing jigs and t rigs around cover. I don't fish super thick slop so the MH is a nice set up for me with 50# braid. If you have a Dicks or other sporting goods store nearby, go check them out. You might like them. I would definitely take 2 Veritas rods over 1 rod for 2 bills, but that's just me. Others might disagree, but if you're ballin' on a budget, can't go wrong with the Veritas.
  3. x2, one for jigs and one for t rigs
  4. Unless you can't afford the curado or can find the citica at a huge discount, spend the extra money and get the curado. I have both, like both, but like my curado more.
  5. I can't talk from experience about the Energy or the SX, so they may be the reels for you. But, my one experience with a Quantum reel (Quantum Catalyst) so far has not been great. I've sent it in to be replaced because I couldn't cast more than 10yds out of the box, regardless of any adjustments. I did not bother with the SX because it only has magnetic brakes and I've heard several grumblings about its performance from other owners. If you want an Abu reel, I would recommend getting the Revo S since it has centrifugal brakes. I have the old model and its one of my favorite reels. If you're still going with the reels you mentioned, I'll jump on the Shimano train and recommend the Citica. I have 2 G series (G5 and G7) and I like them a lot.
  6. I agree, except I would personally recommend mono over braid for a beginner. I just feel like there's a little less worry about with mono for someone who is a green newby. I would look into buying something like an Abu Garcia Cardinal spinning combo spooled with 8-10 lb Trilene XL. It will be a good starting point but not break the bank just in case you find you don't like fishing as much as many of us do . Then grab a couple packs of senko worms, some hooks and go catch bass!
  7. x2 I have a Compre and I love it.
  8. I agree with LMG on the rod power. If you're plunging into a jungle of weeds/grass, get a H power rod. If not, a MH should do just fine. I don't fish the thick vegetation he does, so I use a 7' MH/F Veritas and a 6'9 MH/F Veritas for my jig fishing.
  9. They actually do have decent reels (at least decent by my standards) in left hand models. I think its only their more top end models that only come in right hand, and even then, the models that do come as lefty's, its not every gear ratio. So, not a ton to choose from. But you can get the Tournament Pro, Tournament and several others in left handed models, and I would definitely consider these decent reels.
  10. Awesome! Thanks for the replies. Sounds like this will go on the list of things for santa to bring.
  11. Not from my experience. I do fish mostly stained/muddy waters though. If it were clear I might tie on a leader.
  12. Not positive yet. 2500 or 3000 for freshwater.
  13. Thanks for the feedback dam. I hope it does pop up on sale because everything seems to a big thumbs up on this reel.
  14. Definitely get the TP if you get it for 120. I have the Tournament Speed Spool and its my favorite reel.
  15. I use 50# Power Pro, usually tied straight (no leader). I really only use FC on spinning set ups. Just personal preference. For gear ratios, I use 6._:1 and 7._:1. I personally don't feel like that makes a huge difference.
  16. I got one, I like it a lot. I think you'll be happy with it.
  17. Anyone used the new Stradic reel? What are your thoughts? What applications do you/would you use it for? Seems like its getting good reviews. I'm thinking about getting one for Christmas.
  18. Pad Crasher. It works well and doesn't break the bank.
  19. 1/2, 3/8, 1/4 and 3/16. I started with 1/2 oz and started working my way down replacing my lead weights.
  20. I feel like I get better sensitivity with tungsten weights. It may just be a mental thing. For whatever reason I definitely have more confidence with them, maybe just because they aren't as big. I would recommend to at least try some out and see if you feel a difference.
  21. That's awesome.
  22. Whats it like catching small whales?
  23. Yes, I like this jig a lot
  24. If you're using this set up solely for cranks, the Veritas comes in the Winch series which is designed for crankbaits. It has a slower action so you don't rip the trebles out of the fish's mouth. I haven't used the Winch series but I've only heard good things from those that do use them.
