  1. I'd rather use a football jig than a c-rig, but I can't say a c-rig doesn't work.
  2. Awesome! That was fun.
  3. Cool. Thanks for the feedback guys. I'm glad to hear I can stick with braid for this set up.
  4. Ditto what 1234567 said. I'd get a new, shiny rod and reel. With what I had over, some nice line, a bunch of NSCB jigs, craw style plastics (RI Kinky Beavers and Rage Tail Rage Craws), some worms of your choice, and appropriate hooks and weights.
  5. I'm looking at getting the Phenix M1, 7'2'' H/XF casting rod on black friday. I plan on using this rod primarily for jigs and t-rigs. I would like to use braid since that also gives me the option of adding an FC leader, but I'm worried about annihalating fish on the hook sets. I don't have a problem going straight FC but braid would be my preference. I do not fish any heavy slop but I do fish a lot of submerged weeds and timber. If I go straight FC I was thinking around 20lb test. What are yalls thoughts? Thanks in advance.
  6. I usually try and match my colors pretty close. Its rarely a perfect match though. The blue in the skirt might be different from the blue in the trailer, but that's never mattered before from my own experience. Just do your best. Critters in the wild have all kinds of different shades and imperfections so if you're off, it shouldn't be a big deal. And remember, just because it doesn't look good to you doesn't mean it won't look good to the fish. I can't remember the last time I saw a crawdad with shiny blue flecks in its pincers. Other times though, I will put a slightly different colored craw on my jig. For instance, if I have a skirt that is primarily brown, but has some green strands/highlights in it, I may put a green craw on the jig. It still "matches." Its just not identical. This has also produced fish for me in the past as well.
  7. If you like the Lews, I don't think theres anything wrong with sticking with them. I think they make great reels. But if you did want another choice a 50e would be something worth checking out for you lighter applications. Theres a left handed one in the fleamarket right now.
  8. I have one Endurance for cranking and I like it a lot. Everything else I've heard about the rest of the line is also very good. This is a thread I started asking opinions on a few rods and it quickly turned to Powell's and Phenix's. Its not strictly about the Endurance but there is some helpful info in there, and maybe some others to consider. Hope this helps
  9. Definitely can't speak from experience, but I posted a thread a little while ago about the Rage rod and got mixed reviews with most being negative. I passed and got the Dobyn's Champion that was on sale at Cabela's instead.
  10. I don't throw frogs enough to justify having a designated frog rod. My jig rods do fine.
  11. I go straigth FC as well. I've heard of a lot of guys using braid + leader though. If you can, try out both and see which you prefer.
  12. I was actually thinking about the M1 yesterday. I haven't done any research on it yet but if its only about 10 bucks more it may be worth it. The power seems to be in line with what I'm looking for as well. The only think I'm slightly worried about is that it has an XF action as opposed to the the F action of the Recon. People have said that the Recon is more like a Mod-F action though, which I like since I will probably be fishing braid. Do you know anything about the tip on the M1? Thanks.
  13. I'm sorry, I should have known better...haha. Just wanted to make double sure on the Recon because what I heard about the Kistler was good. I think I'll stick with my original choice. Plus the Recon looks way better than that ugly green. Thanks guys.
  14. Lol, now that I posted this I found a bunch of reviews. Still want to hear what yall think though. Thanks!
  15. How did you like the Kistler?
  16. Found the Kistler Micro Mag TS on sale for $150 but I can't find a whole lot of reviews on it. So, how would the 7' Heavy model compare to the 715 Phenix Recon for jigs (3/8 - 3/4oz), T-rigs and C-rigs? I wanted to use braid + a FC leader, but I'm hesitant with the micro guides. If the rod is that good I definitely don't mind going straight braid, no leader, or straight FC. I have another set up that I can use for bottom contact lures that I already have braid + leader. Thanks in advance.
  17. Jig or worms (Senkos, Thumpers and Trick Worms primarily)
  18. Probably a tie between GY Senkos, primarily watermelon/black fleck, and 7'' Rage Tail Thumper, black/blue fleck. Senkos are t-rigged weightless or wacky rigged, depends on what the fish want. Thumper is t-rigged with a 3/16oz weight.
  19. 6.4. If you need to, just slow down.
  20. I fish all my jigs pretty similarly. The difference for me is where I fish them.
  21. Good luck. I know thats frustrating. My Curado G will cast plenty far for me, so you may have just gotten a lemon
  22. Yours doesn't call fish out of the water like mine???
  23. I agree with the sensitivity aspect aavery mentioned. I neglected to mention that I use mine for spinnerbaits and chatterbaits. If I was to get a bottom contact rod between the two, I would go with the Veritas.
