I like my 7'2 H/XF Phenix M1. Its not a dedicated C rig rod though. If I was to get one just for C rigging I would opt for a longer rod like the 7'6 you mentioned. Like Jeff said, just make sure you stay in your weight range. As far as rods go, I don't think you could go wrong with either, but I would lean towards the Champion if its in your price range.
Second vote for a 7'ish MH/F rod. You will be able to throw jigs, t rigs, spinnerbaits, c rigs, light swimbaits, buzzbaits, potentially frogs and probably a lot more I'm not thinking of.

Biggest thing here will be your price range. I usually recommend the BPS Pro Qualifier/Carbonlite Combo to beginners. For 160 bucks its a great deal on solid equipment. But that may be more than you want to spend. I've heard a lot about eh Academy H20 Mettle as well though I've never handled one.
