Both are nice rods but I would definitely recommend the dobyns 735 if you're planning on throwing football jigs. I'm assuming you will be over 1/2 oz in certain situations and I don't think the powell 723 handles those weights + a trailer nearly as well as the dobyns.
I got the 705CB for exactly what you mentioned. Although, from all the people I talked to and reviews I read, it seems to be a 50/50 split and really comes down to personal preference between glass and graphite
If I'm using the spinning rod for bottom contact presentations (like a shakey head) I'll definitely spend the same amount of money that I would on a bc rod. My main jig rod is a dobyns champion extreme. My shakey head rod is also a Champ extreme.
I would choose lure that you can fish multiple ways. Senko's and trick worms are pretty versatile. lipless cranks are another option. I would also put jigs in the mix as well
I like the spot remover and vmc's but I like the yum punk'in ed the most so far. I just got a couple packs of the shakE 2 heads though. I'm excited to try them out when it warms up.
