  1. Like most everyone has said, you can't go wrong either way, but I give the slight edge to the Lews
  2. That is a very nice looking reel. Too bad I don't need any new b/c reels right now...
  3. Sorry, never had to deal with customer service. I don't remember the warranty off the top of my head either.
  4. The Endurance is a great rod. I've just never used the 725, so I don't want to give you advice on something I haven't personally handled. I doubt you'd be getting a dud with the quality I've experienced with all the other Powell rods though.
  5. Nothing big at my Wallyworld either. Picked up some Yamamato Super Grubs for $5, but that was it.
  6. I Like the avid but I very much prefer the champion. If anything it justb flat out balances better which is worth it to me. But I think the champion is a better overall rod than the avid
  7. I think you've picked out some great reels. Imo, best bang for your buck is the lews tournament pro which can be found for at or under 150
  8. The tournament is a nice reel and you definitely got a good deal on one. But if you have the opportunity down the road, try and pick up a tp
  9. This makes the most sense. Dobyns it is. Haha! But for real, that's probably what I'm gonna go with.
  10. Lol, you're so right. End thread.
  11. I realize this will come down to personal preference but I'm going to ask anyways. I'm looking for a new spinning rod that I will use as for fishing from my kayak in streams, etc. during floating/camping trips and day trips. However, I still plan on using this rod on lakes when I will not need the extra room for camping gear (which will be more often). So, how valuable do you all think a 2 piece rod would be in this situation? I'm the kind of guy that will hold out to get what I want as opposed to settling. The two rods I'm thinking about a 6'9 m/f Fenwick Elite Tech SM 2pc spinning and a Dobyns Champion 682/683sf if that helps any explanation at all.
  12. I like to fish trick worms weightless and twitch them like a fluke almost. I'll throw them on light Texas rigs, shakey heads, Carolina rigs, etc. etc. etc.
  13. I put line on it, then put the reel on a rod, then tie a lure to the line
  14. I would get the carbonlite pro qualifier combo. It's in your price range and at worst, has resale value.
  15. If your friend can get you that BPS discount I'd definitely look at getting a carbonlite. It should make a solid rod for what you want to do with it. They have several combos, some with BPS spinning reels and some with others. I'm not sure how the BPS spinning reels stack up, but one combo is offered with a Pflueger MGX which is a great reel for the money. Talk to your friend and see what deal you can get. Good luck!
  16. As far as I'm aware they're the same blank. I could be wrong but I remember reading that a while ago. From personal experience, I really couldn't tell a huge difference. I think the Endurance might have smaller guides and the purple wrap. Honestly, I like the look of the Max more. I used to have a couple Powell's but I recently switched over to Dobyns. I kept my Max 683c though, which is easily one of my favorite rods. Hopefully something in there is helpful.

    Wacky Rig?!

I fish a wacky rig almost interchangeably with a texas rigged weightless senko. I'll start out with which ever tickles my fancy and switch to the other if I need to. If those don't work it's time to go home.
  18. Not dead to me, but not the most sensitive rod you can get for 150. The one I had balanced great, but I did not like it for bottom contact presentations. I'm sure it would make a fantastic rod for moving lures, but if you're looking for another jig/plastic rod I'd stick with the Champion or Champion Extreme.

  20. Thanks flyfisher! That's the model I'm leaning towards.
  21. I'm looking at getting a Fenwick Elite Tech SM for fishing rivers/streams out of my kayak. I have narrowed it down to the 6'9m/xf 2pc spinning model or the 6'3 mh/f 2pc spinning model. Not sure exactly what conditions I'll be up against so I want the most "all around" rod between the two. I'm planning on throwing everything from topwaters to jigs, senkos to spinners. I have a 30 size Abu Garcia Cardinal that I will be pairing it with for now until I upgrade. Thanks for any help in advance! Edit: Most likely looking to use 20# braid to a leader
  22. Having used both I would go with the dobyns Champ if money is not an issue. if it is, like others have said, you definitely can't go wrong with the endurance. It's a great rod for the money, especially if you can find it for 150. Again, I would pick the Champ by a small margin though. Both balance well, but the dobyns balances better imo. I'm not sure which one weighs more but the balance is more important to me there. Both rods are also plenty sensitive but I would still give a slight edge to the Champ. And, I really like the way the dobyns looks Haha
  23. 10 senko's.
