Both. I use them differently though. I don't throw the trick worm weightless very much. I will throw it on a flickshake, shakey head, and light texas rig though. Senko's will mostly be weightless texas rig or wacky rig, some flickshake, and some C-rigs.
I use the bass pro stick-o worms. The yum dinger I'd another good option. I think they both produce just as well and are more durable, at least you get more for the price. 5 inch is pretty good for most situations. A 4 inch might be another length to consider if you want.
I think so. Not ideal, but if you're fishing pretty light cover I think you'll be fine. That rod can do just about anything. I would throw frogs in light cover on the endurance 723 and it was ok
Braid on either powell will be fine. Just set your drag appropriately. Also, either rod will be fine. Just depends on the weights and the cover you are fishing. I had 50# on a 723 and caught plenty of fish
Also, if that's your plan it would probably be appropriate to bring your weights and whatever you plan to cast. Maybe contact them before hand as well just so they know too.
It's your money. I think that would be fine. Having sold my share of gear before, I wouldn't be offended if someone asked me if they could make a couple casts. If he/she has an issue with it, I might be suspicious.
Obviously I can't say 100%, but I've had 2 STX reels and they both looked exactly like that. Since you're picking it up in person, make sure the reel works OK. That could potentially be a reason its super cheap. But who knows, there are good deals out there.
FWIW, I use 8# as leader material. Obviously I can't say much about the manageability, but strength and abrasion resistance have never been an issue for me
I used to have a Curado 51e (spooled w/ 10# fc) on a Champion 702c and it was awesome. If you plan on using it for senkos and 1/4oz shakey heads I feel confident the 50e will be more than capable of doing the job on the 742 as those applications were exactly what I threw on the 702. I don't have experience with any of the other reels but, like I said, I'm sure they will be more than capable of doing the job as well.
Just FYI, I was out today chucking a weightless T-rig senko on my 742 w/ the Lews TP and was hitting ~40 yds easy. I was also able to set the hook on the fish way out there as well. I'm probably just saying that because I'm still excited about how much I like this rod haha.
Weightless w/o weed guard - Gamakatsu octopus hook, I forget what size, maybe like a 1/0?
Weightless w/ weed guard - the Gamakatsu that Wayne P. posted up earlier
Flick-Shake - I like the VMC "Ike Approved" and Owner wacky jigs
