  1. Were you doing okay before? ---> If yes, then I would suspect something you are doing is causing. Did you just get a new spool of the same line? ---> If yes, maybe you got a bad batch of line?
  2. So you were doing okay until recently? Does it break at the knot or somewhere else? If it is not at the knot, maybe something is wrong with your guides? Make sure all of them are nice and smooth.
  3. Does anyone use any good senko biodegradable alternative? I bought a pack of Gulp (not worm) before and didn't like it because it hardened.
  4. You might be right, BH. But I gave up. The potential benefit did not outweigh the problem for me. It was just not fun. Interesting thing is that I use right hand to hold spinning rod and reel with left. Sometimes I use this for long time, yet I never had this problem. I only have one spinning set up and this is 7"6". It might be lighter, but I don't think by that much. It might have something to do with the right wrist and thumb position on baitcaster over spinning. I did have some problem with my right wrist with computer, so I currently use my left hand for computer mouse. This might have something to do with it. Idk.
  5. Lefty for flipping/pitching/punching application. I would hope my post will help folks who are thinking about the same thing. And I don't see anything wrong with trying new things. I don't know about you, central.PA.bass, but for me, the big part of fun in fishing is about trying something new.
  6. I've decided to go back to right handed reel. I will "enjoy fishing again", as RM said.
  7. When fish swallow soft plastic, does it stay in the stomach forever? Or do they manage to poop it out eventually? Those plastic are a lot bigger than fish poop...
  8. I'm right handed.
  9. Ok, so I decided to try lefty. My logic was by not having to switch hands I can fish faster, more efficient and be ready for strikes any time. Well, today I used it for the first time...I am not liking it. What I didn't think about was that by casting with right hand and cranking with left, I have to carry the rod all day long with my right hand. I started to notice that my right arm was tired. I've never felt arm being tired while I fish, NEVER, until today. I also felt slight pain in the right wrist area. I have never felt that either. Hopefully this is just adjustment period. But so far I am regretting that I decided to try and this looks like $110 mistake.
  10. I only taught my kids to fish. One thing I didn't do right is to spend time finding a sure place to catch something. Now in your case he is an adult already interested in fishing to volunteer to be a moderator, I assume. So he will be more patient than children I guess. I would go with 4" senko splitshotted targeting dinks in shallows. I would definitely use barbless hook because of higher chance of gut hooking. (Besides I've converted to barbless guy.)
  11. I was happy that when I catch bass on jigs, they are generally bigger. Now I might be missing some big bass and not knowing it! When you are buying jigs easily available on the market, what specifics that we should be looking for horizontal jigging? (ie. The hook point should be at least so much inches behind the head etc.) Do more plastic increase the chance of bass not spitting it out too quickly? I have been using less, thinking the hook is more in the middle of the bait that way.
  12. JP, where did you see Citia G for $99? I just bought one, paid just few bucks more, and I want to get one more.
  13. I had no idea they come to lights. And why swimming beaches?
  14. And yes EWG no problem.
  15. Maybe I shouldn't have said the side, it could be the top of the mouth. If you bring the line through the eye of the hook from front side (side with the hook point) first, then when you pull the line on hook set you get this lever action going on and the hook kicks. You can see this guy demonstrates on the first part of the video.
  16. Glad to hear she had a great time. Enjoy while you can. They grow up way too fast!
  17. This thread turned out to be quite funny one I sprinkled "Like This"s on some. Who's got more funny ones?
  18. I do snell on punching set up, but for some reason, I've never thought about doing the same on other worm applications. And what happened the last weekend was I went to this new body of water and I had many nibble on the lure, but no fish situation. It was probably because of too many dinks. Then I though why not go with snell so that when I set the hook, hook kicks to the side of the mouth.
  19. Oh, you are right. Not "snail" but "snell". Thanks, Darren.
  20. Just to clarify...what I am asking about is use of the snail knot on worm hooks. Anyone?
  21. For regular T-rig, not for punching, do you snail worm hook? And who does that with flouro?
  22. Maybe it is just matter of the material? Cotton is nice when it is clean and dry, but once you get sweaty then synthetic material or nylon is better because they wick the moisture out and you feel dry. Many exercise clothing and hiking/outdoor clothing are of these types of material. (And they don't look funny lol)
  23. Ok, I love this game So detective in me (no, I'm not a police) says: The cap's width is probable 7". On the picture the fish's length looks like about 2.9times the capt's width. So the fish's length is 7"x2.9 = 20.3" Calculator ( https://www.bassresource.com/bassfishing/fishcalculator.html ) says: 4.2 lbs But it looks more towards 5 to me.
  24. Other thing I am always thinking about is how long do bass hang on to my jig before it decide to spit out. What do you think? I use to set the hook any time I feel something which might be a strike. I lost lots of jigs doing this by snagging into some wood (I think.) The way I do now is like worm, if I feel something I keep the line tight and see for a second or two, then set the hook. This seems to work. And then by then, fish might be swimming away, therefore hook in the corner of the mouth. So my conclusion is they do hang on to the jig for at least few seconds. I mainly use 1/2 oz with twin tail grub as trailer, not too much plastic. It is fairly compact set up, thinking has better chance the hook might be in the fish's mouth.
  25. I think the most of the hook is set on the side of the mouth for me. I'm liking more details. If your jig is far from you, then you are close to horizontal. At this point, any move you make will basically move the jig forward, but not upward. This is especially true in the situation when you are casting from shore and retrieving up hill. Only when it comes closer to you, then your lifting rod will make your jig goes hop and drop. This also depends on the weight of the jig I think. I do different kind of retrieval, but yet to come to conclusion as to what works best for me. But in general, since I do this in colder weather, I go supper slow.
