  1. Ha ha, and above his avatar he has "I dont always power fish, but when i do, im better than KVD"...a guy merely noted for power fishing spinnerbaits
  2. I love coloured reels on white rods -- don't know why. I finally got to put that in action when I slapped on a burnt orange reel on a white rod for a topwater setup I put together.
  3. I have a couple. Didn't use them because the line holes were powder coated and I was too lazy to chip it away until after bass closed up in November. Looks interesting and I'll give them a shot this year though I imagine I'll just stick with o-rings.
  4. Unless I hear that this lure is so great that bass put it on their lines to catch other bass, I'll wait and see. I'm past the point now of running out and buying the next, new, now when it comes to lures.
  5. That's actually the reason I declined to renew my subscription last month. The information was solid but I was cringing every time I read a page.
  6. I think I've typed the words "I like the Compre" way too many times this week so I won't do it again. I'll cut and paste. I like the Compre. In all seriousness, that's what I use when tossing soft plastics, a Compre spinning rod. It's the one that actually turned me onto the line.
  7. Ah, but this is why I stayed single my good man! I never need justify why I bought a new rod versus a corner table that my theoretical better half found "darling"
  8. If I hadn't bought a pair of Shimanos last month I would be tempted by a St. Croix or G. Loomis thanks to the unexpectedly large tax refund I'll be getting in a few days...that said, a man can never have too many fishing rods...
  9. Don't give up your dream though. Kick butt in school and get an education so you have a backup plan. Have a five- and ten-year plan for how you want to end up being a professional with sponsorships. Even Kevin Van Dam had to start from the beginning. In ten years we'll be reading about you as Rookie of the Year in FLW or BASS. Then you can tell us that you told us so Just be sure to send some lures from your sponsors our way!
  10. > Ive gone back and edited posts mutliple times when I use the wrong there/their/theyre...
  11. At the price point I love the Shimano Compre line -- I do own several and dig them. That said, many swear by the Veritas...
  12. $37 for a Sellus is a pretty darned good price -- and I'd hit that hard if the Sellus perfectly met your needs -- though like Et525i said, they must have better rods on sale as well for the price that you'd normally pay for a Sellus. I'm annoyed because I bought a Sellus at full price just a few weeks ago for my topwater set-up. If I had only waited!
  13. I find it amazing that a national organization like BASS can't find a network -- ESPN, OLN, FoxSports or any other other sports channels -- to air this either live or with some kind of one hour daily recap. Logistically I know it's difficult but to wait a week for a truncated highlights edition is nonsense. Wouldn't this be perfect for WFN?
  14. I enjoy Bassmaster the most, followed by FLW Bass Fishing.
  15. Another vote for Mr. Grigsby. If not him, I'd like to see Takahiro Omori win again. For some reason, though, I get this wierd feeling that KVD is going to win.
  16. This was a curse to me last month because I was looking for a high quality casting rod but "settled" for being two technique specific Compre rods. It was a pain bringing them home because I had to fold down the seats in my Jeep. Of course, not a horrible problem to have I suppose. At any rate, because of this I'm tempted to repurpose that awful Ugly Stik I have with an old Shimano spinning reel for the every day carry rod and reel I was going to keep in the back in case I drove by a lake and felt the urge to do some shore fishing.
  17. Back in my late teen days I tried joining the U.S. Army (I'm a Canadian) so that I could be a Ranger. Always had so much admiration for what they did, all the stories of heroism. Long story short, it proved to be a pain in the rear being a foreign national so I ended up joining the Canadian Armed Forces were I ended up as a Recce Patrolman (what you Yanks call Recon, though I hasten to say that RPs aren't the same elite that someone in a unit like the Marine Force Recon units would be). So my hat is off to your service.
  18. After I swore to high Heaven in early January that I was done that I was satisfied with what I had. On January 28 I made my first ever visit to a BPS and (luckily only) spent $150 in about an hour and half. It could have been a lot more expensive. Before and after that I bought two new Shimano rods, two baitcasters (BPS and Shimano), a few dozen crankbaits, some spinnerbaits and enough plastics to hike oil prices. This Saturday I may give in to the urge to buy a new spinning reel for my worm and jig rod even though the one I have now is fine...but all this talk of Shimano FJs and CI4s has me dreaming of a slick reel to match the Compre rod I use. I'm not even promising anymore not to give in. I know I'm like a addict surrounded by a mountain of drugs. It's only a matter of time before the inevitable happens.
  19. Good stuff. For the first time in my life I'm getting a substantial tax refund and wanted to upgrade the reel I use for my finese. I think you boys just convinced me to buy a CI4 or Stradic FJ to put on the Shimano Compre rod I use for that.
  20. You can also find them on eBay for cheap and in bulk.
  21. To quote Metallica, BATTERY!
  22. Well Shaw does need those few extra seconds to name drop Strike King
  23. I have heard that Denny Brauer can have a temper when he believes -- rightly or wrongly -- that another fisher is infringing on his space. That said, I suppose when a check is on the line you can be a bit prickly about that sort of thing. I was a little disappointed by Monroe's behavior in the second round. He was really turning into a bit of a whiner. That said, he seemed in better spirits in the third round and cut out the snarky chatter. His comment about Grigsby explaining stuff in detail did rub me the wrong way. Grigsby seems to be universally well-liked in the tour so I thought it a bit out of line for him to toss that comment out.
  24. Guess I'll play. Middle management with a government agency up here in Canada. Satisfying because I get to make a positive contribution to the careers of the people that work for me in developing them for bigger and better things. Very satisfying because I don't work any longer on live sewer lines in the middle of August heat. That humbles you.
  25. Ditto. I'm respooling my reels soon and I doubt I'll spend the time using it for the ones with braid on it.
