    7 1/2 from lake guntersville
  5. I have a hummingbird 570 di with sonar. I can tell when I see shad on the screen. So, I know for certain it wasn't a school of baitfish. I do have my fish icon on. May I ask why you wouldn't use it WRB? I had my senitivity at 6 - my band width at 200. Hope this give a little more info. Thanks for all the replies.
  6. Christmas Day 2012 Nolin lake, Air temp was 18 that morning. Water temp was 38, I got whooped by my nephew. He caught 18, I caught 2 Some of the creeks were frozen over on the top with about a 1/4 of ice.
  7. I have been spending quite a bit of time on the water this past year. If practice is what you do to get better,I should be doing better. I do ok when the bass are shallow next to the banks or in the weeds. What i'm having trouble is when I try to fish deep water. First , can you determine if the fish on you electronics are bass or some other type of fish? I went saturday and found fish holding in 30 ft of water ,anywhere from 5 ft to 25 ft. Most the time that I found them they were so thick ,you would think you would have snagged one by just throwing thru them. Not a hit all day, went to 2 lakes water was clear ,but had a good ripple on the surface from the wind. I threw everything-deep divers-carolina rig-shallow runners-jerk baits-drop shot- weighted jerk baits-you name it I tried it all The fish were there , im sure they were bass. I anchored deep and threw shallow. I anchored shallow and fished deep. To no avail. Any ideas ? Water temp was 41 Air temp was 54 Lake was fairly clear, Wind was anywhere fron 10 to 15 mph. Thanks!!!
  8. I started fishing a kentucky wildlife management area midsummer last year. These are reclaimed strip pit from peabody coal mines in western kentucky. These pits are leased to the ky wildlife management. They have been stocked with large bass for several years. Most of them are very clear and run anywhere from 60 to 90 feet deep. Grass about 15 ft out from the bank. Islands and rocks scattered thru out the lakes. Structure galore, looks like a bass heaven. I caught several 2 to 3 lbers out of the lakes, but having a hard time catching the biguns! They are there, just can't seem to get them. Hoping to burn them up this spring. Has anyone fished these lakes?
  9. I thought about going on down to pickwick with the group. Maybe get to know some of you guys, and hopefully learn something. But there are 4 of us and we have a free place to stay. That being said I am planning on running down to pickwick from there one day to give it a try.
  10. Headed down to Ky and Barkley Lakes in early May anyone have any suggestions on where to fish? I have fished it twice before with not much luck.
  11. You seem to come out on top. I can't even get Berkley to replace a broken rod.
  12. Well, tried it again on another lake today. Rough River. Temp 34 Water temp 43. Water was still way above winter pool stage, should be hot in a few weeks. Worked cranks for about five hours. Nephew finally caught 1 Me 0.
  13. Went out fishing last weekend with my nephew. He fishes from mid dec to early summer then hangs it up and bow fishes till dec. again. This was new to me, I had never been fishing this late in the year. I had seen several winter bass he had posted on facebook the winter before, so i thought I would give it a try. We hit the ramp of Nolin Lake in Kentucky around 7:30. There was already 7 boat trailers sitting in the parking lot. Unloaded the boat, spun on the ice that was left on the ramp from the other boats being put in. Temp was 18 degs. we fished close to the ramp for awhile before we headed out on the lake. Throwing medium diving crankbaits. My nephew caught 2 fairly quick, Me nothing. He decided to go up the lake to a good creek. I pulled my sock cap down over my ears getting prepared for the run. Then I realized I was in big trouble, He pulled out a plastic mask that covered his whole face. I had never seen one of those. He cranked up the 200 horse merk and away we went. I was trying to hold on with one hand and sheilding my face with the other. Geeezzzzz, It was cold, did I say it was 18 Degs? We headed in the creek at a fast pace and realized it was covered over with about 1/4 in of ice. He slowed and plowed thru it to deeper water on the other side. At that time I didn't know if I liked this winter fishing or not. He whooped my butt during the day. I stopped counting after he caught 18 bass. Me 2. All in all it warmed up to about 39 degs. before we headed for home around 4. I think I'm hooked on this winter fishing for now, it could wear off ,but I'm going New Years Day, if the snow will let me launch the boat.
  14. They do Tire. I remember my first big bass. My brother had given me an old Cardinal 4 reel and a 7' rod that had been in the top of his garage for some time. It was spooled with 4lb test line. Being so old it would snap if you just made a quick set. I should have changed line on it but didn't,just grabbed it with my other equipment one day as I went fishing. To make a long story short, I tied a small spinner bait on it. cast it out and wham ,the fight was on. All I could do was let her run, back and forth till she laid over on her side. I had to wade out in the pond to get her. Afraid the rotten line would break just trying to pull her across the top of the water.s She was 7lbs 1 oz.
  15. Been hitting the hybrids in the ohio river ,they are a blast to catch. Using an ultralight with light line an lipless crankbaits. We have caught as many as 100 in an outing. As many as 50 in little over an hour. They would be between a lb an 3 lbs. lost several cranks also, thinking about going to a heavier line. Anyone fish for these?
  16. Thank you!

  21. Hello! My name is David. I'm from Owensboro,Kentucky. I'm 58 yrs young! I started bass fishing when I was very young ,loved to fish. Joined a bass club for years. Then kids came along, work ,wife ,working on the side trying to make ends meet. Old story everyones been there. So, I sort of put bass fishing on the back burner. Got interested in motorcycles, then hot rods. That took up most of my time. Then my oldest son got into bass fishing heavy. I started to going with him off and on about a year ago. Nothing better then going out fishing with your sons bonding over a few hooked bass together Now I,m hooked worst then I was when I was in my 20's. Seems like the money is more available now then it was then so , I bought myself a boat and equipment. Seems like I didn't get anything done this year around the house lol. I am close to retirement so watch out you know where I will be. Sorry for the long intro.
  22. I bought a new hummingbird down image /sonar. I have been tring to learn how to set it up. Sometimes while out messing with it on the water i get a pretty good setup where I can see really clear images on the bottom. Other times it doesn't seeem to be setup right. I am assuming that you have to set it up everytime you turn it on? What am I doing wrong?
