    Ky Lake

My friend went down to fish that tournament this weekend as a coangler. Out of kuttawa boat ramp. His boat partner's wife had an emergency, soooo he didn't have a partner. His brother fished the tournament as a coangler. They fished plastics all day, starting where the shallows dropped off to deeper water. They found them on the break in the afternoon. I think he said 23 lbs won the tournament. $4900 A coangler had over 20 lbs won $2500 There was several bags weighed in over 20 lbs. His brother won $160 with what he weighed in, sorry I don't remember what the weight was. He was throwing plastic craws. Hopes this helps ,but another month the topwater should come alive.
  2. Frown on me then. Because I catch and release. But,,,, if I would happen to catch a state record---(even if its 2 ozs little lone 2 lbs) -be it a largemouth,smallmouth,carp,perch,bluegill....whatever it may be. I will have it certified if all possiable to be released alive. but if it has to perish so be it. I don't see how people can say that they would release it, without having caught it yet? You really don't know what you would do in that situation till it happens. Just my own opinion.
  3. I fish it from a boat
  4. what do you think of the huddleson? is it worth the price?
  5. I have used jigs. I caught my biggest on spinnerbaits and senko's
  6. C ome to think of it ,I don't think I have tried a frog in the pit.
  7. I hold the line sometimes when I'm fishing really slow or anchored. Sometimes I even stich with the line if I am anchored. I have gotten shunked when I'm in the front of the boat as well as being in the back of the boat lol.
  8. OK, I started fishing some goverment leased coal mine pits last year. (1) The water is super clear. (2) The pit is about one mile long and 100 yards wide. (3) The pit has weeds all around the lake, about 15 ft. out. (4) The pit has a depth of 70 feet in the middle. (5) It has small islands cropping up along one side. (6) It doesn't seem to have much structure in it that I have found. (7) Its has several rock cropping about a foot or 2 under the water. (8) I've never been on the lake without the wind blowing, seems to be a natural funnel. (9) It does have a bunch of old tires in the north end, mostly in shallower water. When you first see this lake or pit It reminds you of Bass Heaven. I have fished this pit several times last year, day and night. You can have a fun filled day around the weeds with a floating worm. Anywhere between 1 to 3 lbers. I know for certain that there are plenty of lunkers in this lake, just can't seem to hook up with them. Any suggestions?
  9. In my book. nothing better than a good old plain baloney sandwich, bottled water and maybe some chips.

    Buffs

How many of you wear buffs, outlaw sashes, neck covers, tubes or what ever they call them protect to your neck ,ears and face from the sun while fishing? I have been thinking about purchasing one. Any suggestion?
  13. Kentucky res.= $20 If you fish peabody = $15 seniors over 65 = $5
  14. How many of you have read where your locator sonar puts off a ping that bass can hear??? how many turns off their locator?
  15. This winter I have read so many different articles on ways on how to winter bass fish. Some say jigs slow, some say fast. Some say cranks slow, others say med, then others say fast. I've read where the only bait some would use is a spinnerbait. Seems to me that after all of my readings. I've come up with the conclusion that winter bass will bite on just about anything that you throw at them at a given time. I know that the area that your in makes a big difference. I'm in Western Kentucky, weather changes all the time, sometimes hour to hour lol. What is your opinion?
  16. Thanks for the replies. When I bought my boat last year, was when she bought her licence. I asked her why did she decide to buy them. She said I'm not sitting around here by myself while your fishing. When we went out I didn't have anyone else to go with me. Thats why she went. Most of the time I ask her if she would like to go, before I ask someone else. Like I said she skunked me bad. She would cast the worm out and take forever to reel it in, most the time the bass hooked themselfs. Maybe I can tell her that I don't have anyone else to go with me? what do you think? lol
  17. How many keep going to a local lake, when you keep failing to catch any from the lake? I know there is nice bass in the lake. It is the only good size lake that is close to me. I can be on it in 10 mins, so I can fish it a lot after work. Where as I can't go to the bigger lakes till the weekend.
  18. How many of my fellow fishermen, have tried to get your spouses involved as your fishing partner? I would love to get my wife involved. She bought her license last year out of the blue. She accompanied me on 1 trip. She made lunch, treats and I gathered the drinks. We went out on the lake, she skunked me, I gave her a floating worm - I went for the big boys with a jig. They weren't big ones, but they were keepers. She had a good time and caught fish. But, that was the one and only time she went.
  19. Not only the pro's, but reps from differennt bait and tackle makers patrol this site. I read on here about a member that had a problem with a certain item. I replied to him that I think he can out good, that I couldn't even get a broken rod replaced from that company. Next morning a got a message from the companies VP, thru bass resoures. He told me to call him, I did ,he took care of the rod for me no questions asked. Great Company to deal with.
  20. Snapping Turtles, old beer-soda cans , abandoned trot lines, deflated beach ball and a pup tent.
  21. Thanks! For all the replies. The lake I'm talking about is about a 60 or 70 acre lake. Built in the early 40's. It's not but a 10 min. drive from my house ,so I try to fish it often after work. Gets medium pressure from fishing, because of not being able to catch very many fish. But we did C&R a 3 1/2 lber the other day. I know it has big'uns in it. Just hard to catch. Also during the summer it has about 30 foot of lily pads around a third of the lake. I fiquier thats where they stay. Thanks again. Dave
  22. I can see his point about people keeping some to eat. I would hate to see any big bass eaten, but I don't see the harm in thinning the smaller ones out some. As far as taste goes, I wouldn't know but may find out. lol
  23. I've been bass fishing for most of my life. Gave it up for awhile ,but back in it heavier than ever. I talked to a fish biologist the other day. They are draining a few older small lakes in our area ,so that they can dredge them out. I asked him about the larger lake in that area. Asked him why the larger fish were so hard to catch. He told me that there is to many 12" bass in the lake and that some of them need to be kept by the fishermen instead of releasing then all back. I've always released my bass over the years. What do you fishermen think about not taking bass for years has done to the bass population in the smaller lakes?
  24. I've had a lot of luck on lipless cranks for hybrid bass in the Ohio river. Around the owensboro area.
  25. Thanks for the replies Owensboro area here.
