  1. Biffles coach shorts are classic! lol The ole man can still fish his butt off.
  2. Think small, either a shakey head or a wacky style worm.Light line either 6-8lb test.A head weighted worm with a small finishing nail rigged wacky style is a good go to bait when the bite is '' pressured" .
  3. If your confident in your worming skills it shouldnt be too hard get it. Its all about keeping contact with your bait rather on the fall or once its settled on the bottom.Anticipate the strike, usually just a tick on the end of your line. When in doubt, set the hook.I think it was Bill Dance that said hooksets dont cost a thing. It is my number one confidence bait and has accounted for my top five personal best.Fairly stout rod, strong line some type of attractant(I love BANG) and you'll be good to go.Hope this helps a little.
  4. Would be the fish of a lifetime for alot of us,awesome .8-9 lbs would be my guess too.It would be 9 if it was mine lol.
  5. Back in the day it was "The Fishing Hole" with Jerry Mckinnis, learned a ton as a kid and adult.Today its any tournament style show and "Lunkerville".I like the approach of Mike D coming from the angle as the student and his guest the teachers.
  6. Hi Blaine, welcome. I fish SML too.Glad to see you here.
  7. Looks great, love the smoke blue and orange.
  8. Very nice.
  9. Thanks again Rodney,I will give it a shot next summer maybe at night.
  10. Thanks Rodney, sorry about the Powerball,I struck out too.Ive got a few molds but this one I have owned for about a year just didnt like the profile until I tried the Owner 5304. Cadman says its one he likes too but like everything else its just a preference. Its an addicting hobby, that musheroom jig sounds pretty good for those natural rocky lakes.Best of luck.

It felt like a sunfish tapped my jig until I set the hook.My Smith Mountain Lake special jig fooled this big guy.
  15. Will do OE,thanks for the tip. I didnt think of a wire guard but that sounds right, something else to tinker with.
  16. Philpott is a great lake with lots of numbers of fish.I fished there this past summer and had a good time.Lots of crayfish in the lake so I would choose something that copied a craw.I remember all the craw hulls that the fish spit up in my livewell, literally dozens of two to three inch crayfish shells. The water is really clear there so use pretty light line 8 to 10 and drag a hair jig down some of those bluff walls, rocky points etc.
  17. If you tie your own flies then its pretty easy.I learned from how to videos on popular internet sites.A bucktail bass jig is tied the same way a striper jig is tied just on a smaller scale.I like greens and browns but black is very popular too. I also like a zoom skinny chunk or uncle josh split tail eel as a trailer. Hope this helps little.
  18. Hi Tyler,I live in Salem VA. Yeah I love to fish SML but it can be a tough lake to fish ,especially on weekends.I used to hunt in Franklin Co.
  19. Thanks Darren, I havent had much luck with them but havent gave them a fair shake either. Im from southeast VA originally, been living in the mountains for the past 15 years or so.I used to love to fish the Tidewater lakes and Suffolk lakes back then.
  20. sorry for the bad pic, cant get a bigger pic to upload
  21. I havent tied many of these, but I like this one.Hope to get out soon to try it.
  22. Its as easy or as difficult as you make it.Theres a real art in tacklecrafting but lucky for you theres vast information out there and heres as good a spot as any to learn. Dont get too ambitious and buy alot of things you wont need. If you buy premade jigheads they should be painted to keep cost down.Buy skirts in colors that are proven either to you or in your area you fish. Green pumpkin, watermelon and black are a good start. You will need some skirt collars and a skirt tool to finish up.It is very satisfying to catch bass on a creation of your own.Good luck and let me know how you do.
  23. Thank you Cadman, coming from you its a great compliment.
  24. Thanks DavePNW
  25. Got to make some baits this weekend, finally found a hook I like for this jig.
