  1. Bass Pro has several house brand combos in that range. I don't use then to often to give a fair assement on types etc as I use an ugly stick combo from walmart ive had for 10 years. Its like 30 bucks and seems to work well. I have used 8 pound line up to 12 pound without any problems. My advice is buy cheap now and save up for a decent combo later
  2. Mom said they have been catching snapper off the coast in Oregon. Said it puts freshwater fish to shame. Anyone ever tried it fresh?
  3. With a 5.2:1 gear ratio, you want to use it for crank baits. Slow retrieve with that gear is better for deep diving cranks. Plastics and jigs you kinda want a faster retrieve. I love the Ugly stick. I have 2 and both I'm running 15 pound fluoro. I'd stay away from 8 pound mono on that set up. You will want a stronger line when running crank baits. I don't go any lower than 12 pound myself.
  4. Just take some heavy duty aluminium foil and lay it flat. Spray some pam or olive oil on the foil. Add some lemon pepper and alittle salt. Add the fish in bit size pieces and take a bit of butter or oil and shower in lemon pepper. Roll it all up and seal it as best as you can. Throw it on the bbq grill on low for about 15 minutes or oven on at 350 for about 25-30 minutes. You dont have to turn it as its in foil. All the juices and smell stay in the foil and dont escape. You sometimes have to eat it with a spoon as its so tender. Cook some rice potatoes and shower it with some soy sauce and you got yourself a hellova meal!
  5. I keep alot of fish I catch. My girlfriend and I eat alot of fish. Probably 2 times a week. Bass is great. I don't fry anything anymore, I cook it on the bbq grill in foil with a small amount of butter and lemon pepper. Walleye and Crappie taste better, but bass is at the top of the fish scale
  6. True. This spot is nice, its a huge lake with alot of areas to fish and very kid friendly. Its on the way home from work too which is nice. Around central OK, the LM fishing is not very good. Lake Hefner is the only place I have ever been able to find any though.
  7. I seriously wouldn't waist alot of time and energy on finding out what they are feeding on. It really can only be a few things. I'd spend all the extra time you have on finding out what they are doing, where they are hiding etc.
  8. How hard and time consuming is doing is? I have been thinking about getting a small set up, nothing fancy to do some cool treble hooks. They are kinda pricey and with them getting torn up on my top water rigs all the time, its about the same price to just buy another popper.
  9. Keeping little memories in mind like that, is what makes the difference between a Daddy/Husband/Friend and a sperm doner
  10. Beautiful country up there. My girl friend is from Windsor and we make it up there once or twice a year. Love it. As for your question, I don't know the lake, but if you name it, maybe a fellow Canada member may know it and the hot spots. But what type of cover does the lake have, what type of shore lines, how deep, how clear, how hard is it fished?
  11. What a hellova day man!
  12. I started using these after watching OK Bass Hunter land a nice sogeye with one. They do work like a charm
  13. There is the IPS Communities app that is like a 3rd party app. It's expensive and I don't know much about it. I just use the mobile version of the site, book mark it like an app and wala!
  14. Check and see if Paypal will cover the money if you get shafted. If they do and he is a verified seller, you will get your money back. Make sure to check the shipping. It may end up costing 50-100 to ship
  15. I neve understood why this happens. I've picked a fight with a bigger guy before but d**n!!
  16. Other than being than being a good guy, the only other quality condition etc for a fishing buddy for me is when I take you to one of my private hunny holes that I had to work for, cut and bale hay for 10 years for, grew up playing ball with the owners kids for, and got permission for being a stand up guy for........do not go back and fish there without me!! I have lost 2 very good bass fishing ponds due to so called friends going back without me and getting caught. Back before my time, they hung people for less
  17. I remembered another one. About 20 years ago, dad and I were fishing for small mouth at Wilson Lake in Kansas. That year the record for smallmouth had been broken twice. People were catching monster smallies all day. Dad and I were drifting off a small cove on the east end of the lake. Both of us were using our ultra lights and chartruce beetle spins. We had been catching 1/2-2 pound SM for a few hours when dad got the hit of a lifetime. Water was super clear and about 20 feet deep. All we could see was something brown like a SM and about 30-35 inches long. Me being about 12 or so, I was going nuts yelling etc. Everytime the fish got close to the boat, she would rocket back down. This went on for a good 20 minutes give or take. Dad finally tightened the drag and put the boat in neutral to wear her out as landing her wasn't going to happen. She drug us about 10 feet back into shallow water and finally started to come up. I did the best Bass Master net and scoop you've ever seen and landed her. What dad had been swearing was the record smallie, was nothing but one big arse brown carp!!!! I hadn't seen him that heart broken in a long time. After a quick smoke, he said "it may not have been the record SM, but I'll take that fight any day"
  18. Welcome. Wilson lake is by far my favorite
  19. A few of the lakes and ponds I usually fish are very low. Due to drought etc. I was told by the wildlife officer that this time of year most levels go way down and return to normal levels in mid to late September. That being said, all the areas with any cover are now exposed. When the lake levels return to normal, how long, typically, do bass retuned to these areas? Thanks
  20. Welcome. Ready to be broke?
  21. My son and I were fishing in my old home town of Pratt Kansas around November of last year. I landed a huge 23 1/2" wiper. Took me a good 10 minutes to land it. Fishing an old medium 5' bait caster with 10 pound mono. It was more of a crappie rig. We were using a small crawfish colored bomber crank when the fish hit. Biggest wiper todate. Got her photoed, measured and released her. Had to replace the rear trebble hook as the previous one was bent to heck. Even re-tied. About half hour later I got a hit that felt twice as big as before. After 15 minutes a guy on the next pear came over with a net to help. This fish would get 5 feet from the shore and just take off again. My reel started making some weird noises. My drag was about shot. I was able to get her within 3-4 feet of the bank and bam! My line snapped. Never could tell what it was. More than likely not a LM or a walleye by the way it went deep and pulled. We were thinking maybe another wiper or possibly a carp. What ever it was it was fast. About 3 seconds after the heartbreak and explaining to my son what son of a @#$%& meant, my crank just surfaced!! I still have it. Bait caster was all but shot. Never worked right again. It was a gift from dad back in 97 so its now a wall hanger.
  22. Murphy's law sucks. I might have just found the deepest part of the lake and jumped in!
  23. That 2nd boat was like 10-20 feet from the logs crashing. Bet the pucker factor was 9.5 in that boat
  24. Im just about to give Lake Hefner the bird. I have been out every evening hitting every spot I can think of for the last 4 days. Starting at 4pm and calling it quits at midnight. Not a single bite. The hybrid bass aren't even hittin the shad anymore inshore. Talked with several boaters and same thing no activity in open water. Lake is about 6 foot lower than normal for this time of year. You can see a difference everyday. Hundreds of hybrid bass and LM all dead on shore. Even seen 2 SM about a pound dead. They have all but stopped restocking the lake with bass and crappie. Wildlife officers told me funds are tight so the fishing habitat has been put off. They claim it's more of a boaters lake than a fishing lake.
