  1. I can't comment on any Shimano rods other than the Sellius rods but I have 4 different Veritas rods and will probably never by another style of rod in my life. I like nothing shorter than 7'. If your talking weightless or light weighted plastics, I would go with a 7' medium. I have the 7' M/F micro guide that I use for top water and 1/4 oz or less weighted plastics mainly pitching tubes and creature baits.
  2. Ha ha. We have 3 other walmarts here, I will look and see if they have em. I wish they had them in blue black as I have a bunch of smaller blue black jigs.
  3. Anyone have any luck with these? I bought a pack from Walmart last week and these work great for Jigs with smaller hooks. Heavy salt but no caffeine. After looking around, it looks like they are a Walmart special item only. 10 per bag and green pumpkin was all they had left. I went back and cleaned them out of all 6 remaining packages.
  4. True but for someone starting out to spend 200 dollars is kinda high IMO. If they decide they don't like the combo its going to be hard to bring that money back out of it
  5. Sweet another OK guy on the forums!
  6. Seriously? No offense but that about the worst amount of info I have ever heard for a newbie. You want a guy just starting out to spend over 800 dollars on one combo?
  7. Ya Chimeny..... I have no warning points yet
  8. When them monkeys fly outta my............
  9. Agreed. Brees is one of those guys who you can have your kid look up too. I looked up to the Elways Montana's of the day. If the Saifs could get say a defense like Houston's we could get another ring
  10. I went with the heavy. I bought the medium 7' first and it felt too light for 4-5 inch swimbaits. The MH just didn't feel as stiff as I wanted. I can use my 7' H for 1/4-1/2 jigs and 5" swims with 1/8 oz weights with ease.
  11. Thanks RW. I think I may pick up a pack and test them out
  12. Where you do you get em?
  13. 37 degrees at night and 45 in the day here. I have 3 days off and jigs to burn through
  14. Keep the rod. Make it a dedicated set up for something you use alot. I am going to get another 7' medium micro guide rod and that will make two. I want a rod for tubes and tubes only. Make it a rod that you use braid with and a leader. The micro rods suck for using a leader. I am making it a point to never get rid of another rod again.
  15. I want to give the Rage rig a shot. I have narrowed my choice of two hooks, the Moaner Stroker 1/4 oz and the VMC Ike 1/4 oz. Which do you think would be better for the Rage Rig? I know the Stroker was made for the rig and falls even, but has anyone used the VMC's yet to try it? The Strokers are a bit cheaper. Thanks in advance
  16. Yepper. Stuck shore bound for now. You know, now that you say that, there was a guy last week just decimating the crappie population off the point where the water changes. I was in the Academy today and talking with the guy at the fishing counter. He showed me another picture of a 6 pounder taken from Bell Cow Lake over the weekend someone brought in. Caught it off a SK jig in green pumpkin in the channel pitching it into some cover. I swear, I'm gonna build me a raft
  17. About 3 weeks ago, my son and I are fishing this little pond in a friends housing development. There is this little fountain on a chain in the middle. He was using his new spin cast reel I had gotten him the week before. It came with 4# test line and he has been catching some 2 plus pound fish so I took the line off and replaced it with 15 pound braid. Anyway he throws his jig out and it lands right on top of the fountain. He asks what to do and I told him to pull slowly and let it fall to the bottom and work it back. As I am telling him this he screams and I look over. There is a bass out of the water and grabbing his jig off the top of this fountain. Its only about 1/2" above the water, but non the less out of the water and grabbing it. It reminded me of watching my lab as a kid steal cookies off the counter with his tounge. It gets better too. So this fish grabs the jig and runs with it. Jacob sets the hook and the fight is on. The fish ends up getting itsself all wound up in the chains on this fountain. Fish is still on and hes snagged. Rather than loose the fish, jig and let the fish die wrapped around this chain, I take my boots off and go for a swim. I bring this fountain on a chain back and he gets his fish. Along with about 300 snail hooks with busted line and sinkers all rusted out. I don't know what was funnier, me swiming for a fountain, the fish stealing his jig off the fountain or watching him (hes 6) try and tell the story.
  18. I couldnt have said it better myself! Worms are great for when your worn out, sitting on your butt, and just want to drag something to keep fishing. I don't fish alot of worms, but I use the Culprit 7.5" red shad and black w/ chart tail alot. The smaller the pond, I go with a senko swim worm with paddle tail or what ever you call it. Most of these fish have never seen one, and they hammer it like a fat kid playing dodge ball
  19. What a hellova feat! Go Saints!
  20. I'll take a dink over a skunk
  21. My biggest problem with vagrants is them smoking. I just recently quit smoking. Marlboro Menthol Lights were my game. When I quit I was paying 5.83 a pack. To see some vagrant peddling for money smoking Marlboro's at 5.83 a pack......hell no. When I was out on my own after High School, 5.83 would have bought a loaf of bread and some PB&J. Fed me for a week. Want money? Get a freaking job
  22. Now that by god is cold hearted. I love it!
  23. If you were fishing that short of a time, chances are you have nicked your line on something at some point for it to do that. I don't want to say that it's your knot as any knot tied correctly will not do that. To answer your question, I re-tie about every hour or so, after 3-4 fish unless they are big then after every fish. Also if I get snagged and pull the lure free I re-tie. Most of the lakes I fish are covered in weeds and timber so re-tieing makes me feel better as I am usually fishing the heavy areas as opposed to open water.
  24. Back before I quit smoking, I would smoke while fishing, while deer and turkey hunting and honestly never noticed a difference.
  25. I will give the spinnerbait a shot. As for anything with trebble hooks that isn't top water, it's snagged on the first cast. There is that much structure
