  1. Here is may take on both lakes. Mcpherson is quite a bit closer to me so I fish it more then Butler. Mcpherson is a very nice lake, however the road leading into the lake is gravel and isn't very pleasant to drag a boat down and its also a "no wake" lake. There is not a lot of structure to the bottom of the lake so for me it basically just a "beat the bank" lake. There are some nice fish in the lake, I've personally caught a bunch 2-4 pounders. For some reason last year the vegetation along the shore didn't grow like it normally does, which makes the fishing tough. Ive been there a couple time this year already and haven't had any luck what so ever, I'm hoping the vegetation comes back this year which should help the fishing quite a bit in my opinion. Butler is a nice lake as well. The one thing I really like about Butler in the lily pads, which probably aren't present this time of year. I have not been to Butler this year but in the past there has been a lot of vegetation along the shore which I enjoy fishing. There also seems to be quite a bit of structure out on the middle of the lake to fish. I also really like taking my boat up the inlet channel, its pretty shallow but still quite a bit of fun. Ive caught quite a few 2-4 pounders out of here as well. Hope this helps a little.
  2. I took a job with Union Pacific RR a few months ago and looks like I'm going to be forced to work in North Platte NE for a year or so. What the bass fishing like around the area? Seems like the only info I can find is about walleye, surely there's got to be some decent places around to catch a few bass.
  3. I just got home from the strip pits today. Man was the fishing tough! I'm sure the cold front didn't help at all. I didn't catch a lot of fish but the ones I did catch were decent. I only fished the trout pond as I was with my wife and she really didn't care to fish a lot so we just stayed near the cabin. Hope you all have fun fishing there. According to the local the state record bass lives in the trout pond, I sure the heck didn't see him! They stock the trout pond with trout the first weekend in October so the bass fishing ought to be good with the big ones chasing those little trout.
  4. One thing I might add is there is NOT a maid service. You are required to take bedding, towels and the all important TOILET PAPER!! Some one goes to check the place out after you leave for stolen or broken items but the renter is requires to clean up after themselves before they check out. I also know that you need to allow plenty of time to make reservations, I was told the weekends fill up pretty quick. I sure wish I could go with you guys but my wife and I have reservations to go down there in the middle of September so going again in October is not an option. If you guys have any questions please don't hesitate to ask as it's all still fresh in my head.
  5. I believe they are 70 bucks a night and you have to rent Friday night and Saturday night together to get the weekend, during the week you can rent for just one night. You can go to the KDWP website and click on reservations to reserve them. The one we stayed at was named "Mine 19," I cat for the life of me remember the name of the other cabin but they are about 100 yards apart. Both cabins also have a grill, picnic table and fire pit. There is also plenty of power to charge the boat batteries.
  6. I was down there over the weekend and the cabins are very nice. The Mine 19 cabin is were I stayed, it has a kitchen, one bathroom and one bedroom. It will sleep 6 guys fairly comfortably but sharing one bathroom sucks. Kitchens have a fridge, stove, microwave, toaster and coffee maker. The fishing was was excellent on most ponds, on one of the ponds that I fished with three other guys, we all caught fish and not one fish was under 15 inches. Big boats may have a problem getting on the water as all the boat ramps are an "enter at your own risk" type of deal. Be very careful to pay attention to the end of the ramps, once they end it's a nice drop to the bottom. Tent camping is free!!
  7. As far as I know we can fish any pit we want.
  8. I've got a friendly fishing tournament there this weekend. I've never fished there before so any help/advice you guys could give me will be greatly appreciated. We are going to be fishing out of a 16 ft jon boat as well. What colors work well, what's the water clarity like? Thanks in advance.
  9. Not bad for your first outing with that go pro. There will be plenty more to come!!!
  10. I just read this whole thread and what a great read. I'm not much of a jig fisherman but after reading this, I may become one. Thanks to all for all the great tips and advice

  12. Best to Worst in my opinion 1 Coffey County - big numbers 2 McPherson State Fishing Lake - Big Bass 3 Marion County - decent numbers and size 4 Marion reservoir - just ok 5 Butler State Fishing Lake - fished it once and enjoyed it 6 Harvey County East Lake - home lake and pretty sad There's quite a few more that I've fished a couple tea so I'm up I. The air about them.
  13. Just curious if anyone will from the forum will be fishing at Coffey County Lake today? I'm should be out there around 830 or 9. If so look for an old faded black and blue Astro and come introduce yourself.
