  1. I'm not the most experienced fisherman; however I think you would be hard pressed to find a baitcaster that can do everything well unless you spent bucco bucks on both a rod and reel and even then it will have limitations. Think about the techniques you like to fish and buy equipment that can excel at them but still cover a nice spectrum.
  2. I browse a few forums in the buy/sell/trade sections and have not seen this. I recently purchased 2 curado 50e's; 1 for 75 less and 1for 50 less then a chronarch price. If anyone is trying to sell you a greenie for more than a chronarch there trying to rip you.
  3. Hahaha that made me laugh. But seriously that's great fly fisher my a needs to get working out again.
  4. I don't have any recommendations on breeds. This may sound kinda harsh but I feel dogs are like cars or boats. There is always gonna be one around so don't settle if you have any reservations. There are pluses and minuses to getting a puppy or rescuing an older dog. Some of which have been mentioned above. You should also think about the activity and personality of your family. If you guys are active and social that's the kinda dog you want to get. If your homebodies and quite that's gonna be the dog for you. I could get long winded on the subject so I will just say do your research and take your time. My motto is a tired dog is a good dog. Excersice is #1
  5. Haha priceless

  7. Hey guys I was thinking about this great sport bass fishing and I think one of the greatest things about it, is an anglers ability to catch fish in a variety of places and situations. I'm the type of guy where if I can catch a fish anywhere I'm happy but if you had to pick a favorite type of water what would it be? Mine would be a river be because I really enjoy the variety of fish you can catch (big river smallies)there and i generally prefer to fish open water and/ or rocky water
  8. One more thing to think about at TW you get free shipping over 50 bucks. So at 37 plus shipping it does make sense to step up a level to get the free shipping.
  9. I have the spinning version. It's a nice rod. FWIW I checked out the casting models and couldn't find one with straight guides. With the sales at TW I'd think about stepping up a level or two.
  10. I'd have to say braid and a leader as well. After hating braid from a while simply bc it was a PIA to cut and re-tie lures. I used mono and while I don't think you can go wrong with mono or FC, I'm back to braid with a leader. I love the sensitivity and the ability to change leaders based on the fishing conditions. Check out this interesting article that someone posted awhile back on the subject. http://www.insideline.net/weeklynews/2008/08-0529.html
  11. Looks like fun!
  12. Oops pasted the last page just click back to the beginning.

  14. I have the orra and have found it to be a good reel. I've brought in a few big pike on mine and its held up well with a solid drag. I wouldn't pay full price though they can be had for almost half off on the bay.
  15. Thanks for the info guys looks like some might be going on Craigslist or straight to some kids at the local pond.
  16. I didn't get a flyer and live three hours and a half hours from the nearest BPS. I have three rods and reels I'd like to trade in. I might have a buddy who is passing threw town pick them up and trade for me. Is the deal only on specific items? Or can be applied to any rod on reel? Can you use multiple trade-ins toward one item? Thanks guys.
  17. [quote name="ChunkNWind13" post="1233399" timestamp= Ive seen this a few times, especially with weightless flukes and things like that when we were retrieving at a faster pace. A smallie would come up and smack it but not eat it, we'd let it sit for a couple seconds, move it again, and theyd come back and drill it. Not a constant eating strategy, but I look for it when I am not hooking up on the initial bite.
  18. I use the snell knot for all my single hooks and definetly noticed an increase in hook ups but that also could be to me tying crappy knots before learning the snell. Also I tie a single overhand knot when done Snelling the hook.

  20. I don't think it's a problem. I just checked mine and it does the same thing. Like you the first baitcaster I bought was an abu and I've noticed with shimanos you have to crank the drag star a little more to get it where you want.
  21. I know DVT is a sponser here and has been a great help to me and questions I've had and I will be sending my reels to him when the time comes. However people always talk about buying a new reel and the thing is packed with grease. My question is if you send a reel back to an OEM for service do they generally send it back packed with grease like many of them sell new?
  22. Shimano's website has a nice compare feature. You could check that our and compare multiple reels.
  23. I may go alittle against the grain here and off topic but when I bought my first baircaster all I threw was senkos and flukes. Sure I backlashed a lot and casted them 20 feet but once I became proficient at that, I could chuck a 3/8 spinner bait a mile no problem. Anyways you have a lot of bps bucks and that's great but you might want to look for something in the flea market or ebay and pick it up cheap just in case you don't like baitcasting or get a decent used reel and invest in a good rod and a bunch of tackle. My first mistake was buying a 20 dollar daiwa sweep fire rod. as some night chime in; in baitcasting the rod is just if not more important than the reel.
