  1. True. I'd get the 2500 and if you need more line capacity buy a 3000 size spool from shimano.
  2. Nice fish; definetly like a fun day
  3. Are you going to use an ultralight casting or spinning setup?
  4. Thanks guys. I gave her a pep talk prior to going out and that all kind of went out the window when the fish was on the line. Funny thing is she works at a day care and changes 20+ diapers a day. Talk about grossed out but I guess it all depends on what your used to doing.
  5. Try this^^^
  6. My girlfriend is not a big outdoors person. She went fishing with me last year and caught a few but nothing all to special. She doesn't really complain about me fishing all the time but as the weather has cooled off, I have started asking her to join me. Here's the first fish she caught this year and probably the first one She's held in twenty years. Enjoy lol.
  7. I catch them on every rod in my arsenal. My preferred way. 6'6 light power fast action rod, 1000 size spinning reel, and 10lb pp.
  8. I snagged someone's line the other day. Started pulling it in expecting to find a lure and found a nose hooked live minnow. Unhooked the guy so he could live another day.
  9. Nice video as always.
  10. http://www.insideline.net/weeklynews/2008/08-0529.html Read this and disregard the brands; sort of.
  11. I have a sellus, clarus, loomis, and compre. You could count me in the shimano/shiloomis club. The sellus is a nice rod but the clarus and compre are better. Between those two I think the difference is marginal. I'm pretty sure they have the same real seat but a different grip. I'd chose the one that feels better to me.
  12. If that's all you have sure fish away. If you don't have a spinning rod and reel buy one. Then you will have an answer for your wife.
  13. I've been dragging a tube and working a whirly tail grub on rocky banks alot lately and catching some nice smallies, walleyes, and Rock bass. I'm not a huge fan of the rocks bass; the peeing and lack of fight leave something to be desired. I caught this one tonight and it almost looks like half a smallmouth. I would imagine that's not possible but I'm not a biologist and Mother Nature is a mad scientist. What do you think part smallmouth? Or rock bass adapting to its surroundings?
  14. FWIW I bought an endurance off the fish ranger last June. Heck of a deal then 109 shipped. The rod came in a bent cardboard tube. Luckily everything was all good and the rod was fine. For two bucks more though I would order from the other place because they package the rod in a beast of a tube.
  15. This and I would recommend getting white/pearl as well. I've read some of your other posts about fishing a river. I would also recommend some curly tailed grubs again in white or chartreuse and some black or red ball jig heads. Also tubes 3.5 gizits in green. I like to insert a bell weight in the head and t-rig with a 1/0 worm hook and drag or hop along the bottom.
  16. Reading this thread it appears to have gotten quite contentious. Ill throw my 2 cents in. I like to fish with gear that gives me the confidence to land the fish but at the same time gives the fish a fighting chance.
  17. Wow nice job. Awesome fish
  18. Wow that thing is a beast. Way to go on the personal best!
  19. Nice frog fish. It's pretty cool when they grab it as soon as it hits the water. Kinda like an outfielder catching a fly ball.
  20. I've re-read this thread a few times and that's because I'm an employment counselor. First off I never discourage people to follow their dreams/hearts but I also try and give them a dose of reality. The county I work in is one of the most diverse in the The country. We are also located at your local dss office. I deal with everyone from felons with little to no work history to engineers with PHD's. My hardest customers are the engineers and teachers. Engineers because many times their areas of experstise are so specialized and teachers because they want to teach and full time /tenured jobs are hard to come by. I live in New York and in NY you need a masters degree and a NYS teachers certificate in order to teach. To have any job stability and to earn a pension you also need to be tenured. I don't know what state you live In; I would look into the certifications need to teach. I could go on and one about my thoughts but its late and I'm tired and had a few cocktails. If you would like to discuss more pm me I can also help you rework your resume. There was alot of good advice in this thread concerning going to school and continuing to work and the importance of making sure your family and friends are supportive of your goals. Good luck in your journey.
  21. Zoom super fluke
  22. Nice work. Great fish!
  23. Spinning reel feels obsolete ? Eh I do 90% of my fishing with a medium action spinning rod and have some decent baitcasters to. First off if I were to take 3 poles. I would consider the type of water I'm fishing. I normally take 2 anyways. If its a lake with lots of cover and slop I'm taking a mh baitcaster with braid for frogs and such and a medium spinning rod for weightless soft plastics. If I'm fishing the open river I'm taking a medium heavy baitcaster with mono for spinnerbaits cranks topwater etc. also bring a medium spinner again for weightless plastics, grubs, tubes etc. If I'm fishing a creek I'm taking two spinners one light and one medium. For small cranks and stuff mentioned in the river section Your medium abu probably is closer to a medium heavy so I'm sure you won't have any problems with bigger lures. There's a ton of good info on this site. Fish what feels good to you and how you like to fish keep it simple.
