  1. I use yellow in 40 on a clear lake no problem. If there going after the frog they won't be worried about the line.
  2. Nice job man. Get back out there and catch his momma!
  3. You can catch smallies on the same lures you use for large mouth. A few things I never leave home without when targeting smallmouth; tubes, grubs, flukes, senkos, and spinnerbait.
  4. I'm sure that is true of 99% of motor cycle riders. I couldn't help being a smart ass.
  5. For leader length I like to have about 2 inches of braid coming out of the tip top and cut it off about 3 inches below the hook hanger. I like that length because it keeps the line from getting a kink at the top, the knot doesn't go into the reel, and gives me atleast 5 re-ties throught the day.
  6. That's funny my man. To the OP is this your first time out with this setup? Or is it a reoccurring problem? If it's a reoccurring problem it might have something to do with your technique. Your first time it might just be getting used to the gear. If nether could just be one of those days. :-/
  7. Drivers should be careful to; next thing you know a pack of motorcycles surrounds you. One stops short and well you know the rest.
  8. I know grease goes on gears and lube on bearings so.... Just wondering if putting a drop of lube in the shimano maintenance port has any real benefit or is more of a gimmick?
  9. I second this. Sometimes I have to make quite a drive to get to some spots. If someone is there already; I'll politely ask if they mind if I fish that spot. 99.9% of the time they say yeah no problem. I then try and stay out of there way and maybe shoot the breeze alittle bit. One time I did this and I could tell the guy wasn't to happy. He left about an hour later and left behind a box containing about 100 bucks with of senkos. I took the box and about a week later I was fishing the spot and he came down. I said hey buddy I got your worms and he was so happy. Never had a problem fishing with him again. Many times it's all how you treat people and you have to be the bigger man.
  10. RW said it best^^^
  11. ^^I use the alberto as well. The only time it failed me was when I did not have the tag end going out the same way it came in. The Albright looks very similar. Could that be your problem as well?
  12. Nice fish and nice background shot. Looks like a good way to start the day.
  13. Thought I might start a fun thread. So what do you like better EVA grips or Cork? I'm going cork.
  14. A .38 special will put a man in a hole.
  15. Tubes have been my go to this year Original 3.5 fat gizit green craw 1/4 egg sinker pushed to the top of the tube head 1/0 gamakatsu offset worm hook. Tex posed the bend on the hook come just where the tenticles and allows the tube to be texposed reducing snags and increasing hook up 10lb braid 12 yo zuri leader for the sharp rocks Medium fast spinning
  16. Black senko w/ purple flake is my back up to the white fluke. If the fluke isn't getting bit the black senko most certainly will. I've also been very successful with it at low light and in the dark. Give it a shot.
  17. How did you know? Lol
  18. I have never had a bad experience with an abu garcia product. I've only held the rods in store and from that experience and the reviews of others they do seem to feel a power or so up. That's normal since there is no specific guide to rod powers and actions. The question you should ask does this rod feel good in "my" hand? Your going to be the one fishing it 99% of the time right? If it does go for it; if not look for something else. In my opinion sensitivity is subjective. Of course some rods are going to be more sensitive then others but there is no substitute for experience which continuing time on the water will give you. An example I've been dragging/hoping tubes on rock flats all summer. I don't have a 300 dollar rod but with the rod I've been using I've gotten a good feel for things. Last night I was doing the same thing and felt the slightest tap; it felt ever so slightly off set the hook bam fish on. My point is no rod is going to give you "it" unless you know what it is. As for reels. I have the old orra s baitcaster and its a great reel basically a revo a minus a few doodads. If you were interested I might let it go at a bargin price.
  19. Ill second that unless I'm using a 3/8 or higher weight which for me is almost never.
  20. Congrats on the pb. That's a heck of a fish.
  21. Interesting a guy who is a moderator of a website where people create screen names and post stories, pictures, questions, and advice is confused about a site where people create screennames post pics and share stories/advice.
  22. Just a question. Is this a large mouth party only?
  23. Evant123 follow me I follow you
  24. Change your thought process man. I was in the same kind of position lasts year. Limited over fished spots, limited access, crappy water all that. What I did was take a drive open up that google earth and find some new places. Dont say you know them all because you dont. Ive also learned as much as I could about fishing mostly from this great site and be the best fisherman I could. There is so many ways to catch a bass it can be daunting. I focused this year on simple proven methods to catch fish and tried to become the best I can at them. Over the winter I bought tons of lures and a few setups and you know what they are collecting dust. I streamlined my tackle to improve my time fishing and not putzing with tackle. Pardon me if I'm wrong but if your a new fisherman frustration is just a part of the game and you can't let it get to you head. Learn from those times where you don't get bit or miss a fish and try to improve on it. If you spend an hour or even a half hour throwing everything you have at a spot move on the fish aren't there. Get in the car and change your spot. Hope this wasn't to harsh but keep at it and keep a positive attitude. Good luck.
