  1. 6'8-7'0 medium fast; I like a rod with a 1/8-3/8oz weight range. Very very versatile in my opinion.
  2. I'm going to try my hand at building rods. Just ordered a sc3 7'0mf and sc3 6'9 mlxf spinning blanks basically got a two for one deal with some broken blanks to practice my wraps on as well. I'm going to try using tennessee handles with fuji alconite k- series guides. With a 2500 and 1000 size shimanos on the rods.
  3. Congrats to you and the misses on the new PB!
  4. I'm a sufix fan here as well as yo-zuri which is not a mono but a co-poly. I'd second the advice that you learn to do it yourself. Years ago I used to go to a big box outlet and have it done and it would last a day until it was so tangled and unusable. It's very important that you spool the line on your reel in the same direction as the spool/bail turns as it comes off the spool.
  5. I don't know what kind of tubes your throwing but for 3.5 gizit a 1/0 gamakatsu offset worm hook works great. The bend of the hook comes threw right at the tenticles of the tube; leaving the hook texposed. you could bury it if you want but I don't find it the need to since the hook is so close to the plastic. I like to push a bell or cone shaped weight up in the nose first and your set. Gizits work fine for me.
  6. I'm all about the smallmouth and love the tiger stripes. This is probably my last smallmouth for the year caught last week and one of the more unique ones I caught this year, with the dark belly. Not trying to hijack the thread but maybe some more experienced fisherman could shed some light on this. Do you think the colors on smallies on more pronounced in rivers or lakes? Is one sex more likely to have the tiger stripes then the other?
  7. If I was only left with one piece or type of tackle; fishing wouldn't be a sport at that point. It would be something I did because and most likely because I had to eat. At that point I would change my location till that piece of tackle worked. Being on the bank sometimes it's the tackle that makes fish bite and that's what makes fishing fun.
  8. Can we get a sub forum for $100 dollar rods?
  9. Recently learned about this fish; Giant Trevally. Man what an amazing fish, something I could dream about. I've been watching YouTube videos of guys fishing for them and found the one below. This guy showed some real skill in landing that beast. Make sure you watch around the 1:20-1:30 mark lol and the end too see fish.
  10. Not trying to be funny but do you suffer from arthritis or carpel tunnel? At 16 bass fishing should not put a strain on your body I'd suggest to try cranking with that 200d
  11. Sounds like he brought you great happiness. Sorry for your loss. I'm sure he's chasing a fat rabbit and rolling in that green grass up above.
  12. I've been fishing a husky jerk since before I knew what a jerk bait was supposed to do lol. Trolling them and casting and retrieving. I have caught quite a few fish with them. Don't think you can go wrong with a couple in your box.
  13. I've had a lot of success with the Ike "the jerk" soft jerk bait and the price is right. Caught a fish today using one on a dropshot. It was a walleye but at this point I'll take what I can get.
  14. Give it a shot. Would you rather sit In the house?
  15. I'm in this camp. Plus like others have said there will be other sales. Saving a few bucks to me is not worth the headache and drama.
  16. Can't fault a guy for trying lol Jay, Just keep working at it you will get it. Maybe try some cheap 25lb mono to mitigate the cost and pain of back lashing expensive line.
  17. You dumped the calcutta d in the trash? Send it to me I'll pay the shipping
  18. A post like this makes me put things in perspective and reminds me we only live one moment at a time and to strive to make ithe best of it. Thanks Ajay
  19. 6.5 in the hand. 3.12 on the ground.
  20. I had 2 of the baitcaster and they were nice reels. The new ones are mag brake while the previous model was centrifugal so pick your poision there. I found mine as close to brand new as you can get on the auction site for about half price.
  21. I usually use a leader about a foot shorter then the length of the rod. So about 5-6 feet. I can feel and hear it sometimes going threw the guides but have not noticed anything detrimental to overall performance.
  22. Get him the 7/MHF combo you originally had your mind on. It sounds like he knows how to troll. Why not show him a different angle?
  23. [quote name="Snakehead Whisperer" post="1397260" timestamp=" The boat is a 1448 welded flat bottom jon w/ a 25hp Merc 2 stroke. The wake was probably about 4' high and came out of nowhere.
  24. Now thats a hand full. Nice.
