  1. IMX and they are all 78's. They work for me!
  2. Hard to go wrong with any loomis mbr 842, 843, and 844. Pick two of the three and I'm sure you'd be happy.
  3. Weight is the enemy of sensativity. I try and build rods and put together combos that are well rounded. A solid proven reel and a rod that serves the purpose I intend it for. When I build rods I try and keep the top half as light as possible by using the lightest possible guide train that will work within the function of the rod.
  4. I caught my pb pike on a st croix medium light spinning rod. I don't use wire leaders as pike are normally a by catch when smallmouth fishing. I have gotten pretty good at telling when I have a pike on the line (bigger ones anyways) and found that when I try and horse or power them in the line breaks. Like what you may do with a bass with an xtra heavy rod. Pike also cut braid like a knife through butter
  5. Two reels that have really impressed me are the shimano calcutta conquest and the daiwa tatula ct. As far as "best" I dunno I like nice reels but know that I could probably land a "big" bass on a wal mart special.
  6. Haven't been out much this year but finally caught a decent one. Caught it throwing a spinnerbait around bridge pilings.
  7. I did a daiwa lexa once but it was so long ago I have no idea what the size is. The calipers are great for measuring bearings, tip tops, and screws among other things. Well worth the investment.
  8. The advice above is spot on. I've replaced a few line roller bushings with bearings and used vernier calipers to measure the bushing. I believe the calipers with like $12 at harbor frieght. Great tool to have handy to measure a variety of things.
  9. Beatle spin or zoom fluke. Still always have a fluke tied on. Beatle spin not so much.
  10. Not sure I comprehend here? You ask if you can send the reel in to be repaired than proceed to quote pieces for parts an labor. Where did you get those prices? i guess spend the $80 bucks to get it fixed or spend $0 and throw out the reel. Thats a personal financial decision. I guess you and your bank account have to make that judgment call.
  11. If you want to be a bass fishing ninja get the scorpion. If you want to be a good ol American joe get the curado.
  12. Well guys I wanted to give you all an update. They never even asked the question! I don't really have any idea how the interview went. I think the content of it went well however there was one small problem. I could not stop sweating! Not because I was nervous but because it was about 80 degrees out and 100% humidity and I was wearing a suit, it was embarrassing. So who knows what will happen from here....
  13. So here we have the worst interview question around....I have a big interview Monday and have been wracking my brain here. I could go and say something like I work to hard or blah blah. I could say I'm afraid of public speaking or need to brush up on my technical skills however I need both those for the job and don't want to contradict my resume. I was thinking about being truthful and say I lack experience in the field. I could make up for that by saying I have attended training for this type of work, have read reference materials related to this type of work, and have the skills needed for this type of work. All of which are true however I just have not gotten knee deep in this type of work. So what do you guys think is the best solution and how have you tackled this question in the past?
  14. Op sounds like you had the chance to hold both rods. Anyone feel better in you hand than the other? If one did that's the one if go with.
  15. Yes I do the same exact thing. The stretch of mono provides some give with the faster an more powerful baitcast rods I have. The non stretch of braid adds some hook set power with the lighter an slower tipped spinning rods I use. That's my thought on it.
  16. An option might be trying both and coming to your own conclusion. Since you have both reels already and all. I doubt you will see much of a difference anyways.
  17. All sorts of replies here and I'm sure very good rods each in it's own right. the questions I always ask my self when looking at a new rod are is the reel seat one that I like? Do I like the grip material? Are the guides suitable for the type of fishing I'm doing? a blank could be amazing but if the engonimics and function aren't there it is pointless.
  18. This has been my experience as well.
  19. Are you fishing from a boat or shore? I ask because for me taking more than 2 rods on shore becomes cumbersome. I usually take a 6'6 mh bait casting rod and a 7'0 medium light spinning rod. There is not much I cannot cover day to day from shore with those 2. I might take a third if i want one rigged up for a specific technique say dropshot. You would be suprised what 2 general do all rods can cover. As a beginner I might focus more on reading the water and conditions rather than having a specific rod for every technique. Having to retire often also re-enforces good knot tying technique.
  20. I'd get an avid x 7'0 medium light fast. Great river rod.
  21. Just a question if you lock Down your drag or clamp your thumb on the spool. Aren't you than using your rod to move the fish? i normally use the drag to let the fish move and the rod to move it.
  22. I think it probably takes awhile to make a custom fit jersey for your broad squared off tin shoulders.
  23. Same here for me...with the amount of stuff I have accumulated over the past 6 years, I will be good for awhile. My new hobby is trying to grow my savings account in hopes that one day I can retire early become a snow bird and be healthy enough to fish everyday.
  24. I'm a big fan of suffix. I always buy the precision wound and it works great. I also use big game which is not and it works great too. I don't think you will see much difference between the two.
