  1. I had been looking for a boat on craigslist for years. This popped up and I took the day off of work and went and bought it quick. I bought it from a very nice 87 year old man that was liquidating some of his toys.
  2. I've had many jobs. Most recently spent 5 years as an employment counselor. As of 3 weeks ago, I began a job as an auditor. Complete 180, it has taken some getting used to but I think I might be there awhile. If you can do what you love that's great but don't discount a steady paycheck. There are 16 other hours in a day.
  3. I have one, it has a mercury 9.9 on the back and 45lb edge up front. It's my first boat and I like it a lot. Very stable on the river and two people can fish out if it no problem. I don't know what types of water you will be on but I would think with just a 55lb trolling motor on the back you won't be going anywhere very fast. With the 9.9 on the back it is not very fast. I'm looking to re power at some point with at least a 25 go motor. The boat is heavy. I paid $1800 for mine with the motor boat and trailer.
  4. Exactly, get in where you fit in.
  5. Can you enlighten me on how w the two reels differ in their function and operation?
  6. The first cartoon says it all....
  7. I put my symetre and certate head to head for a little while today. They were on very similar type rods throwing very similar type baits. They both did the job very similarly. The symetre has proven itself to me catching many fish, the certate has some catching up to do but is very nice. I have to wonder if I was fishing bait casters say a citica and a steez would the difference In their operation and function be greater?
  8. Looks like a great day. Some real toads too. Best of luck to your father and family.
  9. I would not do any of the things you listed here. You don't need to treat the rod like a museum piece either. If your trying to get out of a snag, reel up the slack pull straight back, don't bend the rod. I never hoist fish I either use a net or grab the line as the fish gets close. You want to try and avoid scratching or nicking the blank as well. I think you will see a night and day difference between you ugly stick and your new rod. Good luck!!
  10. Watch this guys videos. A great fisherman, and ehhhh a rod builder.
  11. Go with custom st croix's. Learn how to build them your self. Nice epoxy is over rated.
  12. Meant to say wouldn't. I was talking about any guide really but people have had some rec guides grove, which I like to use.
  13. I wouldn't worry about braid grooving guides. It's the particles of dirt/rock/sand that can get trapped into the braid which is generally what may cause grooving. This might be a concern if you fish very dirty water.
  14. I saw that as well. Pretty wild, I'm no expert but that fish looks like it's been around the block a few times.
  15. I would look at st croix 6'6 medium light fantastic blank. I also have a 6'6 light blank waiting for some guides which is very nice as well, it is very "light" in power though. The ml is better in my opinion as an everyday rod.
  16. What can i say? I like to keep the old school alive, you will be hard pressed to find a more comfortable grip than the tennesse on a spinning rod.
  17. A new to me 2013 Daiwa Certate 2004ch Works pretty good!!!
  18. I like to keep it simple. Give me cork on a rod and a metal framed reel. If a company can meet those two requirements; they have my interest and maybe a few of my dollars.
  19. Either way there is friction. As an engineer can you measure one type of friction versus another?
  20. Here you go. http://www.bassresource.com/bass-fishing-forums/topic/151165-building-a-handle/?fromsearch=1 http://www.bassresource.com/bass-fishing-forums/topic/145990-got-one-on-the-rotisserie/ http://www.bassresource.com/bass-fishing-forums/topic/136298-2nd-rod/?fromsearch=1 http://www.bassresource.com/bass-fishing-forums/topic/131304-first-rod-build/?fromsearch=1 Your a young man and seem to have a desire to learn. I would recommend you learn how to build rods. Instead of chasing the best rod for xyz dollars and buying them and being disappointed. Learn to do it yourself and you will rarely be disappointed. In my opinion the guide train and build layout is of more importance than the blank. The great thing about building your own rods is you can spread the cost out over time. I have 4 blanks sitting in the corner two with glued up handles and two bare. I'll get them done aty own pace. The great thing about this hobby is 99.99999% of people that do it are willing to share information and insight on how to.
  21. I hadn't purchased a fishing related product in close to 3 months. Last night I spent a bit of coin on something I have been wanting for a long time. I had a lot of anxiety about spending the $$$ but now I'm excited it's on it's way. Like nike says "just do it".
  22. Chee, Great idea and video, I applaud your ingenuity. You wanted feed back so here goes.... The volume needs to be louder on your videos. I fish spinning reels almost exclusively, with 2 large brands I have not had a wind knot ever? A third happens all the time. I think spool design places a role in this. I happen to think line twist and wind nots are inter-related and braided fishing line has helped mitigate these issues. You posted an interesting pic from daiwa about the friction as line goes around the spool and roller bearing. With your system doesn't the line holder and reverse oscillation create friction as well? Anyways seems like an interesting concept and guys like you keep innovation going. Maybe one day we will see one of your ideas in action. Good luck!!!
  23. I do not. I send then to DVT when they break lol. Im of the mind set if it ain't broke don't fix it, so I rarely perform maintenance on my reels other than a light cleaning. I do keep a list of all my tackle for insurance purposes though.
  24. Sc3 is my favorite blank to build on. I have to say with the price of these rods it almost makes building your own rods pointless. These are going to be a steal. Considering guides, cork, handle, and the time it takes to build a rod; it's amazing they can offer these rods at this price point. I guess it goes to show the power of economies of scale. I will definetly pick one up during a sale.
  25. Try a google search for "dreamweaver tube file tackle box"
