  1. I'm a shimano guy. That new alphas is really calling my name though. At the same time I would like to try the new braking system on the shimano bait casters and at the prices they can be had, I will probably get one over the sv. I had some pflugeur spinning reels and they were nice but almost lost my shirt trying to sell them. I don't buy reels to try and then sell the next week but I like knowing if I had to sell, I can get a decent return on the money I laid out.
  2. A few from last year. Mighty Mohawk All Day!!
  3. Shimano makes a symetre 500fl that's pretty small and I had a pfleuger trion that was tiny. Maybe 20 or twenty five size. Both smaller than 1000 reels.
  4. Your statement rings true. I usually buy whatever I can get the best deal on. Haven't found a brand yet that hasn't worked.
  5. Great review! So what your saying is you didn't notice a 1 ounce difference between the two??? Man you must be jacked
  6. picked these up on the cheap (relatively). Have a few SC5 blanks they should look nice on. Just need to order some guides and get it in gear.
  7. The best investment I made in rod s was learning to put them together myself. Sure I still buy some factory ones it's hard for me to pass up a good deal. Like a Loomis imx for $115 or st croix premier for $65. Read up a little on rod building and you soon realize most of these companies are selling you hype.
  8. If it's a custom rod you may want to consult your builder. Sometimes the rod guides are setup to accommodate different size reels the best.
  9. Yup got me one of those kvd rods a few weeks ago. Good deal.
  10. Academy pistol minnow. I caught so many dang fish on that thing. I was so mad when I lost it and had to go back to the gunfish I have.
  11. I don't pre rig t-rig plastics but I will certainly pre-rig some tubes or plastics on jig heads.
  12. Maybe.....I have a gloomis imx 782 and 783 lure ratings 1/4-5/8(782) and 1/4-3/4(783) they are definetly different. I also have a medium daiwa procyon 1/4-3/4 that feels very similar to the 783(medium-heavy). So among the same brands your hypothesis probably holds true but across brands good luck!!!
  13. Personally I use mono as a leader in 10lb test.
  14. Above is a good idea. You might want to check out Wally worlds too they seem to be discounting some Abu and Daiwa rods near me. I picked up an Abu cardinal rod for $10 and I have to say it feels pretty good in my hand. I actually almost bought the light action rod for myself needed to show some restraint.
  15. 7'0 Medium Light fast St Croix Avid, 10lb braid and 10 pound mono leader, and white zoom super fluke.
  16. Baitcaster? spinning reel? spinning I would downsize line or upsize reel. Baitcasting, I don't know the coils never really bother me.
  17. No idea but if I were a betting man, I'd say around the time the E6x or whatever it is was introduced.
  18. Couple supremes in the flea market right now. Ya never know the guy might be flexible on the price too.
  19. Lately I have been watching kayakbassfishing and BR's very own smalljaw. Both very good.
  20. I have overcomplicated so much; I have promised myself I will take different baits out every trip. I just haven't made up my mind if that is a problem or solution.
  21. Depends what your baseline is. If it's St Croix everything else might be a bit off.
  22. I have not tried this knot admittedly but watched some of the videos of it posted here. My first thought was how the heck would I tie this knot with the wind blowing.
  23. I've started using 5 up 3 back same results. I don't know if more wraps would help.
  24. I use the Alberto with 10pp/10 mono or 20pp/10 mono. 99.9 pecent of the time it breaks at the jig or lure.
  25. Update: broke out the calipers and the bearings are not the 4x7x2.5 so some new ones are on the way. Thanks agains guys.
