  1. Very Nice, I have heard there was some smallies in that lake, you just proved it!! you can probably thank hurricane Irene for that!
  2. Break out another thousand.
  3. Never had a problem finding tackle and there is not a bps within a 100 miles from here.
  4. Looks like you have been a busy man. I've read and toyed with the idea of the plate seat but tend to stick to the Tennessee grip. What's your brother plan on using that rod for?
  5. I have à guy pour them for me. Usually 2/0 hooks on the 1/8 and 3//0 mustad black nickle hooks on the 1/4. Don't use the weighted swimbait hooks for dragging lures. Too expensive for my taste.
  6. I use hula grubs, zoom ultra vibe, rage claw, and net bait paca craw. I don't really have a method to my madness just kind of grab whatever is on top in the box. I would say I'm kind of partial to the hula grubs but only bc you can catch them at a deep discount once in awhile. I rig then on 1/8oz ball heads or 1/4 football heads. Always on spinning gear.
  7. Well if you want the bees knees, shiznit a bam Sally it would be a St Croix medium light fast. Just pick your preferred flavor and length.
  8. Looks like you are ready to roll. Nice gear, good luck on your first trip out.
  9. I think I have caught a topwater fish on every rod I owned last year. I'm in NY haven't gotten to the topwater just yet this year. For reference I'm talking a 5'6 light spinning rod to a 6'6 medium heavy casting rod. If the bait is in the weight range of the rod I'm going to throw it (actually throw many baits on my ml spinning rod outside it's "range") Mono or braid and mono on the rods.
  10. The guy sounds like a heck of a negotiator. I think your last sentence sums it up nicely. Good luck in your search.
  11. My mental block is thinking I know what the fish want. That's really what I want to throw. I need to step out of my comfort zone and throw a greater variety of lures in my tackle box.
  12. Bought two spools of yo zuri way back, 6 and 12 pound. Used 6 as leader and 12 on bc. I thought the line kinked up both on the reel spool and line spool. Maybe I got 2 bad batches but I'll stick with other brands.
  13. If shimano painted them Rayburn red they might be worth $500!!!
  14. Isnt another name for a jerkbait a twitch bait? While your reeling that baby is twitching. Forget about trolling one that doesn't have a place in fishing
  15. Drill lathe is the way to go. your looking at about 30-35 bucks right there.
  16. Nice review, I wanted to try a new curado 70 but I think I just might save another hundred bucks. That's one sweet looking reel. Great looking fish too!
  17. Nice fish, I think the fish have better senses then we give them credit for.
  18. Pink fluke is nice but if I really want to tick the smallies off I like white with chartreuse tail. Gets the pike going to.
  19. I don't really do the skirted jig thing. I like tubes, hula grubs which are a skirted jig of sort and basically any other plastic I might have. Don't discount a fluke on a football head. I'm a dragger don't do a lot of hoping/popping unless I feel the jig starting to get stuck. Ive been fishing the same spot for about a week. One day I tried 1/8 jig heads and had a hard time feeling the bottom the rest was with 1/4 jig heads. Believe it or not I actually got hung up less with the 1/4, I think it had to do with the heavier weight giving me more feel on the bottom.
  20. I honestly don't know. Depends if you have enough thrust or get enough momentum to get up on the trailer.
  21. I don't know if you have a motor on this boat? But have you ever tried driving the boat up onto the trailer? A pair of trailer guides about $130 at overstock make this much easier as well. Just a suggestion.
  22. I have a rainshadow rx7 781 rod and the tip top keeps coming lose. I normally shave some of the glue off and put it in the tube but the tube is very narrow and I cannot get a lot of glue in there. Does anyone have any good tips on getting glue in the tip tops or how to attach the tips tops when the tip tube is very small? Much appreciated thanks.
  23. Go with the medium light.
  24. Zoom fluke white/chartreuse tail and 3/0 ewg.
  25. I think all your rigs look good. I don't know about where you fish but for me weeds in the river aren't really that much of a problem until late summer. I t rigged tubes with a bell weight inside and a 1/0 offseft worm hook but lost just as many as with a regular tube jig. I almost exclusively use tube jigs and losing them is just part of the game. I usually buy in bulk 100+ at a time and that comes out to about 22-25 cents per jig with a nice mustad black nickle hook. Just something to think about if losing jigs and cost is an issue.
