  1. I love my smoke 150. I got the 5.3:1 ratio and it's great.
  2. I was out again tonight and pulled a 5lb large mouth out of my pond and now I am sold. That rod had no problem setting the hook on that fish and felt great pulling it in. I will never say another bad thing about this rod. When that fish hit it was solid. Hard to explain just how it felt but you could almost feel the hook sink in. My smoke is geared at 5.3 and it horsed that fish up out of that pond just like I hoped it would. It has back bone that lightning rod never had. THis being my first rod over 50$ I wasn't sure what to expect at first but now I do.
  3. The Lightning rod isn't soft. It just more of a medium action. Like new2BC4bass said it's funny how much you feel with a Lightning Rod compared to the St. Croix I have. I do think once I fish the St Croix for a while I will get the feel for it. Its almost like the LR is to sensitive and you feel to much.
  4. I picked up a St Croix premier 6' medium fast casting rod. It replaced a 6' medium IM6 Lightning Rod. I always thought the Lightning rodwas a little soft. I didn't miss any fish tonight. I could hook the bigger bass with the lightning rod but most o the smaller ones got away due to poor hook set. I caught about all of them tonight so maybe it is better and I just ned to adapt. I do love the handle though,
  5. I got my new rod today so I had to go try it out. I just swapped my reel over to it and the first thing I noticed is that I can't feel the blades on my smaller spinners like I could with my Lightning Rod. The fish feel different when they hit. I like that I just thought I would be able to feel more not less. Am I missing something?
  6. Well I bought the premier. I went to Anglers World today. He had G.Loomis GL2 GL3 and IMX 6 foot casting rods along with the Avid and Premier in 6 foot. He spent quite a bit of time going through the rods and showing me different ways to check out the action. Talked about what I was going to use the rod for. The end of the day the Premier felt the best. I like the weight of the Avid but didn't care for the grip. I didn't care much for the G.Loomis rods. For what they cost they sure felt cheap. Thanks for the advise.
  7. I am coming from a Berkley Lightning rod. I just don't think it has a fast enough action. It feels nice and doesn't weigh to much but I feel it looks the hook setting power I hope the St. Croix will give me.
  8. Thanks for the input guy. I was looking at G.Loomis but I think my money will buy me more with St. Croix. I wish money were no object but it is. I think I am going with the Premier. Unless you guys know where I can pick up an Avid for under 170.
  9. I am going to be casting a little of everything from small spinners to swim baits. I have bigger rods for larger baits but I am looking for a compact rod that will do a mixture of things well. I am going to pair it up with my Smoke 150 if that changes anything.
  10. So I am in the market for a new 6 foot casting rod. I think its down to the either the Avid or Premier rods. Is there anything that really makes the Avid worth 70$ more?
  11. Hey guys I am now here and had a question. I finaly got to where I can buy some nicer fishing equipment. I just picked up a new Quantum Smoke 150. I have it on a Berkley 6 foot medium Lightning rod. I was looking at the G.Loomis calssic 6 foot GL3 or the St Croix Premier 6foot both medium. I throw alot of rubber bait like the Havoc crawlers and spinners. Is it worth the extra money to get one of these rods or not? Thanks
