  1. i had the cool opportunity to tour the Basscat factory in Arkansas this past summer. after seeing the way their boats are constructed i think you'd be hard pressed to find a "better" boat. and their customer service is second to none. if it was my money, i'd go with one of the three listed below. 1. Basscat 2. Ranger 3. Phoenix Brad
  2. welcome to the club. i know guys here that fish semi-pro and they aren't catching any fish to amount to anything either. having the expensive electronics certainly is an advantage. however you can catch fish this time of year without them. we were getting skunked in deep water (using lowrance HDS10s). so out of frustration we moved back to shallow water around grass and started catching fish. at least for me i have found that a slow, finesse type technique works best when the water temps are the highest. i've had great luck with the drop shot rig. just by simply dropping a green or red finesse worm around structure. hang in there, fall bite is already cranking up here in my neck of the woods.
  3. we actually had a pretty good morning saturday although the wind at pickwick was pretty bad. managed 10 fish or so with a couple of decent smallies. most were on a drop shot and 2 or 3 on a 5xD crankbait. the fish were on the usual deep spot/ledges but we caught most of ours in water less than 10 feet deep.
  4. *** has these (7' 3" - Med Hvy/Fast) on sale for $99. was thinking of pickup up one to be used soley for a carolina rig.
  5. since the water temps got above 85 here i have been forcing myself to learn the drop shot technique. i have had some good luck with it. as a matter of fact i have put more fish in the boat with it than any other rig over the last month. it seems to catch bass when nothing else will.
  6. i fished at Bay Springs Lake in north Mississippi yesterday. there were so many ski boats and wave runners on the river channel that i decided to move to shallow water and fish visible structure on the shady side of the lake. i tied on a spot remover jig, threaded on a strike king rage craw and started flippin and pitching. started catching fish right away. i haven't caught that many spotted bass but they were really biting yesterday. went through a whole pack of rage craws. they aren't as big as the LMs but man do they put up a good fight ! beautiful fish too.
  7. i am interested in fishing with someone at pickwick. i fish there weekly with my cousin and i am familiar with all areas of the lake. i am about to purchase a new boat and would like to see how the new high end Humminbird or Lowrance sonar units operate so that i can make a decision on which to get installed on my new boat. i've become very interested in ledge fishing but have little experience doing it. if any of you guys are in the area and would not mind me tagging along then i would gladly pay for the gas. thanks...Brad
  8. well this is my first post. i in Iuka, MS live about 10 minutes from Pickwick lake. i bought a new st croix mojo bass M/XF rod last week to be used as a drop shot rig. took it out last night and on the first cast i caught a small LM. caught a few more but the bite was SLOW and we could not seem to find many large schools of fish. i think that i am really going to like this drop shot rig. my "go to" setup is a strikeking ragecraw on a spot remover jig but i am trying to learn new techniques.
