  1. Hmmm, I didn't know a black living rubber skirt jig with a Brush Hog as trailer was an "unseen" bait.
  2. I had one of the old Registas and not only it was a beautiful rod but also very light and sensitive.
  3. I owned two Quantum products back in the late 80s, a baitcaster and a spinning rod, none lasted more than a year so no more Quantum for me never again.

    Live Worms?

Go to my everyday lake and the only thing you'll catch with worms is a truckload of bluegills.
  5. Use spinning gear, with spinning gear you don't need much room to swing the rod to cast.
  6. I've got 580 cranks, 80 spinnerbaits and like 40 pounds of soft plastics that have never touched the water .... but that ain't stopping me from getting more.
  7. You DO NOT SET THE HOOK when fishing with UL gear, you use light wire razor sharp hooks and let the fish hook itself by keeping the line tight.
  8. My very first bass ever came out of a pond with water so muddy you could literally plow it and with a bait now I would hardly recommend for fishing those conditions, an original Rapala minnow size 7 black back silver sides. Bass don't need to see the bait in order to find it, bait color in those circumstances matters little, it's more important you help the fish to find the bait with other than visual clues.
  9. FC don't sink like friggin rock ! Nylon don't float like a friggin cork ! FC sinks and so does Nylon after a while, none is naturally buoyant. FC STRETCHES ! depending on the brand even more than certain Nylon brands. Nylon AIN'T no friggin rubberband ! So, what do I like ? I like nylon, yup, plain old *mono* as you fellas wrongly call it since FC is also monofilament line, why ? because ... I HATE FISHING WITH A FRIGGIN SLINKY ! which FC is no matter how much line conditioner you apply to the stuff. What do I like about FC ? man you can almost know what the fish are thinking before hitting the bait, but I like the more *tame* behavior of nylon.
  10. the angler makes it complicated and expensive when it is not. However, to me, purchasing fishing stuff that I don't need is part of the fun, 95% ( I bet it's more ) of my baits haven't touched the water, I have several NIB reels that ain't gonna see action in many years to come, there are many baits I purchased with the only purpose of exhibition. And in the end .... BETTER HAVE AND NOT NEED THAN NEED AND NOT HAVE ( Baitmonkey is happy ).
  11. Bring your camera and you ain't gonna catch something worth taking a picture.... but it applies to smartphones, you can bring your phone but without the intention of taking pictures as soon as the idea crosses your mind all you'll catch is 8 inchers.
  12. my favorite and my most successful are two different things. favorite: Arbogast Jitterbug most successful: 1.- Zoom Trickworm, 2.- 3/8 Oz Single Tennessee gold blade white Strike King spinnerbait, 3.- Rapala Shad Rap SR7 SD, 4.- 1/2 Oz Jig black skirt, 5.- 1/2 Oz Bill Lewis Rat L Trap, 6.- Mepps Comet size 4 in-line spinner.
  13. I expanded my spinnerbait arsenal to around 200 units and ...... I'm still fishing with the same 4 I've always catch fish.
  14. Spinnerbait Lipless crankbait Chatterbait Jitterbug ...... He'll, scratch the others, Jitterbug and more Jitterbug !
  15. Yes there are places like that, Sugar Lake in Mexico, right across the border from McAllen, TX, was such a place a few years ago, a 50 lb stringer in a tournament didn't take you anywhere.
  16. 100 or more fish a day were common when I fished Lake Guerrero, El Sombrerito and San Lorenzo back in the 80s, 3-4 lbers wre seen as "trash" since they interrupted the hunt for the big mommas.
  17. BS My grandmother's Mercedes 220 is 55 years old, looks and drives like new.
  18. Well, that really depends on what I'm going to fish with the shakeyhead.
  19. Since most of the 10+ lbs fish I’ve caught were between 1-5 PM that’s the time I want to be there.
  20. Bass that have never seen a craw will strike a bait that looks like a craw just because it looks like food. Never mind that “match the hatch “ nonsense.
  21. Spinnerbaits, lipless cranks, fat bodied cranks, close to cover and with a more steady retrieve so the fish can home in the bait, soft plastic baits with heavily curved appendages ( more vibration ). Actually it’s easier to catch fish in muddy conditions since it masks a lot of things. As for colors, I say it don’t matter, it’s more important to me to make it shiny ( metallic finish or lots of glitter ).
  22. Well, I guess it no longer a 2 piece rod.....
