  2. Chris you 're giving away confidential information , by the time you hit the water next year all your hunny holes will be crowded with guyz tossing in tubes. :
  3. Wanna bet on that ?
  4. Look closely at the contour of the terrain ABOVE water level, opposed to cover structural features extend from the surrounding terrain into the lake for a long distance, some structural features are surrounded or border with a particular type of cover, for example, in Mexico willows only grow on places where the soil is moist year round, this particular association only takes place at river and creek channels, when they build the lake and the terrain floods the trees are going to be there for many decades after the river has ben dammed, locate the willows, the river or creek channel is right below them.
  5. Matt I 've always said: the wrong lure in the right hands outfishes the right lure in the wrong hands. Catching fish is as much science as it is art, some anglers are "talented" by nature, mother nature has provided them with all they need to catch fish, in them catching fish is a second nature, they are natural fishermen just as there are natural players in football or baseball, there 's somthing in them that makes them shine over the rest of the crowd, but people like them are the smallest population. Most anglers are not "talented", most anglers need to "learn" how to catch fish, they must learn how to select baits, how to work them properly, how to read the water, how to cast properly and accurately, etc.. Some learn better, faster and practice more than others, practice makes perfect. The artistic part of fishing comes into play when you may know all the technical data about lures, conditions, etc., but everybody is different, each of us imparts it 's own personality to the lures, you are the one that makes the bait work, and it 's not the same being fishing for 20 years, you may have 1 year experience multiplied by 20 than having 20 years "experience".
  6. You are dead wrong. The truth is, there are no magic baits, there 's no such thing as magic spots, the most important part of fishing gear is from the handle of the rod to the back there 's where the magic is located, but still fishing with quality gear ain 't gonna blister your hands.
  7. That 's the catch when having razor sharp hooks on your baits, you don 't need to pop.
  8. The ideal time would be when the H and the L line meet on your local lake.
  9. Actually there are two ways to set the hook, one is with brute force and the other one is letting the fish impale itself on the hook, but in order to do that your hooks need to be razor sharp.
  10. The wind has been blowing with gusto since Saturday :-X.
  11. Like ReelMech said, the best sized bass for filleting is between 3-4 pounds, smaller than that it 's good for the pan whole. Not my favorite fish to eat, trout is much better.
  12. Gee Chris good question ! I check everything; water temp, wind direction, cover, distribution and nature of cover, contour of the terrain above water level, clouds, light penetration, turbidity of the water and it 's nature. It 's difficult to describe it with words but the lake "talks" to me.
  13. Recreational 100 %, no time for tournaments nor do I want to fish tournaments.
  14. Chris is Rick Clunn ................. but don 't tell anybody.
  15. Not a single penny, well I don 't fish tourneys, maybe that has something to do with it.
  16. Bravo ! RW is a very knowledgeable angler too, I was going to suggest The BaitMonkey, who knows more about how to spend a big bunch of green ones in tackle than him ? ;D........... Wait !!!!!!.......thinking it carefully that may not be a good idea after all. :-/
  17. Bass is not so great as table fare, bluegills ( much more profilic too ), tilapia ( more prolific than bluegills ), catfish are much better tasting. Normally I don 't fish for trout but trout here are hatchery raised fish intended for human consumption, you can have them two ways: purchase them at a grocery store or at a restaurant ( no fun in that ) or have fun catching and paying for them, anyway they end up in the pan and better than bass.
  18. Excellent choices Glenn both of them.
  19. When water is muddy bass are located very tight to cover, it 's like a blind person, they can 't see, they touch things to move around in an unfamiliar environment.
  20. What is flipping best suited for? When regular casting can 't place the bait inside cover. When there 's not enough room to swing the rod and make a good cast. When conditions that cause the fish to bury themselves into cover like cold fronts and very muddy water are prevalent.
  21. I 'm a lot smarter than the fish.
  22. I use the "fish" finder to locate structure and schools of baitfish never to "locate" bass. The only time I use it as "fish finder" is to locate panfish and carp.
  23. Yup Matt, 70 's is pretty cold in our respective neck of the woods. ;D
  24. Nope they ain 't related in any way. All the characters in this movie are fictional and do not represent living persons.
  25. 1.- Nope buddy, what Chris said means that a wide wobbling bait will reach the depth it 's designed to but it will take you more effort and will take longer to do it because it has more resistance, the difference between a fat and a flat bait when it comes to reeling it in is from earth to heaven. 2.- Yup, downsizing the diameter of the line will make a bait run deeper. A good rod makes a world of difference, a bass can mouth and spit a crank in an eyeblink, with a good rod you are able to feel the change in cadence of the bait. Razor sharp hooks are always necessary. If your hooks are razor sharp the fish hooks itself when it spits the bait.
