  1. Pond Pro, the ones you are mentioning have weight balancing system, which makes them too small in numbers to speak about them when we talk about generalizing the minnow class, most minnows do not have the system and they cast like crap.
  2. The variation between what the weight calculator says and the actual weight is minimal, so you can trust it. It 's a whole lot better than the eyeballmeter for shure.
  3. No problem ! Actually the thread is quite interesting because casting distance is one of the big concerns of most fisherman, it affects you performance and effectiveness throughout a day, we can 't say that X and Y elements are what affects your casting distance just because there are a huge number of elements that play a part; you can compare casting to music, casting is like a symphony, in one of the instruments in the orchestra is out of tempo the symphony is not going to be played well; some of those elements in casting are in the gear, others are in elements we can 't control, others are in ourselves, the combination and balance between them is what makes the whole; some can be corrected others are can 't. That is why it is so important to understand the elements and when you understand them you can correct those that can be corrected. I think it 's more important to cast accurately than to make long casts, but if you can make long accurate casts better for you.
  4. 1.- Weight of the bait, true to a certain point or truth halfways; it doesn 't matter if two baits weight the same, aerodynamics of the bait count a lot. Minnow shaped baits cast like crap. 2.- Rod length, another truth halfways; material, composition of the material, action and power of the rod affect your casting distance. A longer rod may not necessarily means you 'll make longer casts. 3.- Line Type, another truth halfways; material from which the line is made, diameter, friction coeficient count, abrassion resistant nylon mono has a higher friction coeficient than less abrassion resistant nylon mono of the same diameter, therefore it will affect your distance. 4.- How much line in the spool, truth half ways, it 's not the ammount of the line but the shape and design of the spool, in a deep spool reel yes, the ammount of line is important, in a shallow spool it 's the shape of the spool what counts, shallow spools have a lot less capacity. 5 and 6.- Casting TECHNIQUE, the way you stand, the way you handle your rod, the way you move your arm, the way you snap your wrist all that counts. Aside from those we also have to consider more factors like wind direction, humidity, air temperature, etc.
  5. 12 ft aluminum jonboat.
  6. Look at it the way I do, when it comes to mechanics on internal combustion engines ..... how can I say it so it doesn 't sound that bad ?........I 'm a complete dork :-/. If the mechanic says $300 then it 's fine for me, taking in consideration that the last time I tried to "fix" something the "repair" didn 't come out very well, the outborad still had to go to the mechanic. : But the mechanic has a couple of guard dogs......... just waiting for them to get sick and then ........ muahahahaha ( evil laff ) .
  7. Don 't even think about asking for Corona, Modelo or Tecate, you are in Pacifico beer country, ask for the others and..........those mountain oysters you are asking for will be yours.
  8. The difference between fishing from the bank vs fishing from the boat is: MOBILITY and ACCESSABILTY, from the boat you can fish spots that can 't be accesible from the bank or that you need to take a big hike to get to them. The ammount of tackle really is not that important because you can have much covered with 2 rods and a small tacklebox. Like Velascus pointed out, locating the fish which means usually locating the spots and cover that will hold fish is exactly the same either from the boat or the bank, LOCATING STRUCTURE ? man you are standing on it ! you are looking at it, to locate the spots you need to look at the terrain above water level because what you see above water level is exactly the same you can find below water level. We don 't need to discuss bank fishing, we need to discuss HOW TO LOCATE THE FISH, and that works exactly the same either you fish from a boat than from the bank.
  9. Last week when my fishin partner and I went to the lake I discovered a gas leak in my old n 'trusty 6.5 HP Johnson, it didn 't represent a problem not having the outboard because the lake is not THAT big so the TM was enough. I took it to the repair shop and they discovered that the leak was in the gas pump.....no problem, fix it. New gas pump Spark plugs Transmission oil change Cleaning the carburator Replacement on teeny weeny tiny hose of carburator 300 bucks , ouch ! :-/ There goes the money I had saved to purchase me a couple of GL2 rods. :'(
  10. Joe bass.- Hey Louie ! you hear that ? Louie bass.- What ? Joe bass.- That irresistible sound I 'm hearing.......it sounds like lunch ! Louie bass.- No kiddin ' ? Joe bass.- No kiddin..... I swear it sounds like lunch Louie bass.- and what are we goin to lunch, bluegills ? minners ? trout ? shiners ? Joe bass.- don 't know, but it sounds like lunch, let 's take a look ! Instead of a Biosonix I think I can ketch me more fish with a nice rod with the money I 'm not going to spend in that gadget.
  11. You know you are a bass fisherman when: Your house is old and unpainted but your bass boat and tow vehicle are brand new. Your idea of getting a higher level of education consists in attending Bassmasters University. You lawn looks like a jungle. You practice pitchin, flipping n 'skipping in the jungle that used yo be your lawn. Dick Cabela and Johnny Morris send you greeting cards during the seasons signed by them in person. You know all the employees of the fishin department of BPS by first name. You arrive at BPS and they put a red carpet so you can step on it. You have more tackle than money.....or brains. Should I continue ?
  12. Actually it is two things in combination: 1.- Constant water temperature over 55-60 degrees for a period of at least two weeks in a row 2.- The increasing light levels of the spring. The spawn may take place during the full moon but that doesn 't mean the full moon rules the spawning behavior.
  13. Suppose there were a stumpfield in 40ft of water that was located on the ledge of the river channel dropping sharply to 80ft. Would you refer to the stumps as structure or cover? The stumps for me would be cover while the ledge and the river channel are structure.
  14. Catching fish ( note that I didn 't say fishing, it may sound that both concepts are synonimous but they aren 't ) is much as science as it is art. The scientific background is important, the more you know about your prey the better, the art comes when you take your scientifical knowledge and apply it to the reality by practice, how good you are at both determines how succesfull and consistent you will be in the long run.
  15. Hey watch Cajun, you 're going to get into big trubble if you don 't show the critter the respect it deserves, BaitMonkey is written with capital B and capital M.
  16. The difference between the Fat and regular Ika against the Flying Lure is that you don 't have to purchase any "special" Flying Lure Kit, nor special jigheads nor special spare baits, Ikas are readily available anywhere, oh well, almost anywhere; besides the Flying Lure only swims away from you if you let it fall on a slack line, otherwise it doesn 't swim away from you. The only problem with the Fat Ika is that the bait is pretty beefy so you need a good wide gap hook or when you try to make the hookset you hook nothing.
  17. You don 't need to flip it Papa, cast it as usual near the target in question and let it sink on a slightly slack line, the bait will swim AWAY from you and into the cover, as a matter of fact you can keep the bait in the same location just by pulling the line with your rod and allowing the bait to sink without retrieving, just by lowering your rod..........deadly.
  18. This causes the bait to "swim" away from you and down under the cover canopy That 's the secret of the magic bait.
  19. In the particular case of Rapala the size of the bait increases along with the diving depth capability of the bait.
  20. Africa could be in the future Vyron, Mexico 's Lake Baccarac holds the Latinoamerican record with a big momma of over 19 pounds, Japan 's record is over 18 pounds, there are stories of big fish over 19 pounds out of Cuba, so chances are that the next WR is going to come, aside Cali, either in Mexico or in Cuba.
  21. Isn 't " ice out " when you cooler runs out of ice ? OOOOOOOps ! sorry, wrong country. ;D
  22. Sega 's Bass Fishing Duel is a pretty goodun.
  23. I only have two mounts, my first 10+ pounder ( skin mount ) and my PB, 13.86 lbs ( replica ), I had the skin mount made in 1985, back then you could only have skin mounts here in Mexico, I don 't regret having the fish mounted if you 're going to ask, but right now there 's no need to have a skin mount, replicas cost pretty much the same as a skin mount, look better and are easier to maintain, nothing bad happens to them because they are impervious to the elements, the colors remain for long, the varnish doesn 't crack and flake away, they don 't turn yellow with age. So, if you catch that once in a life time fish take good pictures, good measurments and have a replica made, release the fish, who knows ? maybe you 'll catch it again 3 or 4 years later with 3 or 4 more pounds on it.
  24. Skin mounts without proper care look like crap in a few years, fiberglass and graphite don 't.
  25. Don 't sweat it, use Bassresource 's Fish Weight Calculator, the margin of error is minimal. For example: I caught a 23 x 22 incher last year, BRFWC weight: 9.69 pounds, actual weight of the fish: 9.86 pounds, that 's pretty accurate if you ask me.
