  1. If your state law says NO then don 't do it, it 's not a matter of if you like them or not, if you think you are not going to do any damage, etc, etc, etc. The law says no then it 's no; being a law abiding, responsable, honest citizen is doing the right thing even when there 's nobody around. If the state law says that you can do it then you can do it.
  2. A rise or fall in the barometric pressure has no effect on the mood of the fish unless it 's associated to a change in weather conditions, the moon phase affects in tidal systems, inland I have not seen any correlation between moonphase and the activity of the fish in my 33 years of fishing.
  3. You just lift your thumb enough to allow the spool to rotate freely but not lifting it too much or the line begins to flow through the port.
  4. I really don 't mind if the man fishes a stocked pond or not, I 've never viewed his shows like if he was bragging on how many and how big bass the bass he catches are, I always viewed his shows as entertainment and educational, as a matter of fact, many of the things I know I learned them from Bill Dance 's shows and videos.
  5. Muddy_man is no longer called Muddy_man, now he 's Lazarus He came back from death.
  6. If the visibility is very poor that happens quite oftenly, they happen at the boat because the fish has been following the bait until it is able to locate the motion, when it jumps on it that happens almost right at the boat.
  7. The wrong bait in the right place is going to catch more fish than the right bait in the wrong place.
  8. You need to ask yourself given that situation what is making the difference, if both, let 's assume, are using the same baits, same techiques, and pushing it, the same gear then the differences can be attributed to: 1.- His position in reference to your position in the boat: the guy in the front of the boat casts first. 2.- He is doing something you are not: each and everyone of us imparts the bait his own personality, that 's the reason why it 's called fishing and not catching, fishing is as much an art as it is a science, the science comes when you study how the fish behave, where to find them, all the tid bits of information you use to solve the puzzle, but the art is a completely different story, that 's when two persons if both are fishing with the same "everything" separate completely, it 's your personality at the end of the line what 's catching the fish.
  9. My favorite lures for night fishing: 1.- Jitterbug........I like the Jitterbug 2.- Spinnerbait. 3.- Lipless crankbait.
  10. Further out doesn 't necessarily mean you will catch bigger fish, if you are trying to think fish then you are the first one to break the principle of thinking fish by thinking that further out you will find the bigger ones, those fish are there for a reason, there 's something there that attracts them to that particular distance. Let me give you an example, there 's a very nice irrigation pond close to my home, the biggest momma in the pond can always be found in the same place and that place is waist deep and 2 ft from the shore, why is the fish there ? The answer is the priviledged location of that spot, there 's a willow tree that provides shade, one of the willow branches broke and landed below it so it provides cover, the well that feesds the pond is located 30 yards from it and spills right there so when the well is working the warm water and current it provides flows to that spot, all the minnows, baby bluegills and baby tilapia gather around the current generated by the spill so the current provides food, thinking like a fish I would be in that same spot because iI have everything I need: shade to conceal my presence, cover to conceal my presence, warm water flowing through the place providing me with current, highly oxygenated water and the current brings me food right to my doorstep, all I need is to be there and grab it. So before you start casting do an analysis of all the clues the place is giving you and ask yourself: why are the fish there ?.
  11. Heavy tackle is still required for certain techniques add for certain places to that sentence. When you are in place with little cover where you can fight a fish being sure it 's not going to wrap you around in the tree 2 inches away from it or get itself burried under vegetation there 's really no reason other than adequate drag setting and skill that can separate you from landing a big fish on light line.
  12. Sparky asking with what is not going to help much, ask where, when and how. Presentation and location together are more important than bait type.
  13. 8 inches to 3 pounds is the normal, toss in a couple of 4-5 pound fish on a good day, but when I 'm on the hunt I may catch 1 or 2 fish over 6 pounds, problem is that my partners ( my compadre and my nephew ) can 't stand the hunt.
  14. I have been hearing this for years, but have not found it to the case for me -- what is the source for this claim? Is it personal experience or has it come from some book or article? RW writes what he thinks and what he has experienced; his advice, knowledge and opinions are very much welcomed and in this particular case the claim is not far from what I have experienced too, it is too much of a coincidence when 3 people, RW, George and me have experienced the same. I caught my first 10 pounder on a jerkbait, my PB on a crankbait, however I think that those catches were caught on those baits just out of pure luck; most of my big fish have been caught on jig & worms, most of them have been caught with that kind of lousy weather, bluebird skies & extremely hot, most of those fish were caught between 11:00 AM and 4:00 PM and down here at that time of the day hot means REALLY HOT.
  15. I 've never done it with a regular C-rig but I 've done it with a splitshot rig, not with a senko but with a french fry worm 8" behind the split shot, man. That day, many years ago was those days that the regular presentations were just not giving good results, tried the wacky rig but it lacked of enough weight to be on the bottom and when I shaked the worm it lifted too much from the bottom so I tought, what if I add a number 3 split shot ....? at the first cast I nailed one, a couple of more casts another one, that day I just anhilated them. Necessity is the mother of invention.
  16. Then don 't get a float tube.
  17. Get off the bank with a float tube.
  18. Telescopic lure retrievers work well for people that don 't own a boat, only problems are: that you are limited to the length of the pole, that you have to carry the gadget around.
  19. The Biosonix emits a sound that supossedly attracts fish. With sharks the story is differen, they posses Lorenzini 's ampule, an organ used to detect electrical currents connected to the enviroment through numerous specialized pits in the skin where cells that can detect electrical currents, most of those pits are located in the head around the mouth area, the hammerhead shark is an extreme example of that system. Electric eels detect the deformation in the electrical field they generate through their very specialized lateral line.
  20. I 've caught the same fish from the same spot 4 times in the same week and it was not the spawn, so we can say to a certain point that some fish are big, strong and mean enough to own a priviledged place in a lake, btw, I 've caught that same fish several times, I know it 's the same fish because it has a very distinctive mouth, it 's crooked on one side.
  21. The intersting thing about smalljaws is that they are not as hardy as largemouths, they just don 't seem to thrive in warmer environments, there are no smallmouth that I know below San Antonio, lakes like Amistad and Falcon do not have them even though they have stripped bass, I 've been to Choke Canyon in TX several times and never seen a smalljaw.
  22. I have absouletely no problem at all, it 's not copyrighted or stuff like that, the information is there for everybody 's use.
  23. Some of my Spanish buddies in their tubes:
  24. Actually they are quite comfortable and you sit high on the water, high enough to cast without problems.
