  1. I 'd rather not begin brainstorming, everytime I have brainstorm I end up spending a lot more than I have to spend. :
  2. Bass have bigger mouths than brains, a 10" swimbait may look big to you but to a two pound fish is a really good lunch. You won 't get many bites with a 10 inch swimbait but that doesn 't stop a fish from attacking it it it really wants it. Several years ago I entered a bass & trout tournament in a pay to fish lake, I won the bass tournament with a 3 pound fish........that had a 12 inch trout in the stomach.
  3. I forgot to add, brush will eventually rot away into oblivion, but, if specially you placed a huge brushpile with lots of cinder blocks or buckets of cement are going to stay there forever, in esence, you have also created a rock pile and rock piles in the proper place are fish magnets also.
  4. 1.- Before you dump anything into your lake you need to check if it is illegal or not. Some lakes, some states, some counties have particular regulations when it comes to adding cover to a lake. 2.- Fairness has nothing to do with it. Besides, there 's absolutely no guarantee that the fish will be there. 3.- Cinder blocks or arranging them in a bucket of cement will keep them down until the brush/timber becomes waterlogged, after that it doesn 't matter; however it 's the only way you can keep them in the place where you dropped them.
  5. But if you are going to replace the bearings.........BOCA ceramics my man ! that will turn your Scorpions into a mean burgundy casting machine.

    can I?

Yes you can, I fish jigs in my cousin 's ponds and there has never been crayfish in them.
  7. That 's a good point KU: When you start putting that $50 in perspective .... it's really nothing when you think about how many times and how many years you will use that reel. For ex. when I purchased my first good reel, the Abu 521 XLT Plus, it cost me a good ammount of dough back then, about 90 dollars ( 1985 ), all my friends thought I was insane about spending "so much money" in a reel, they all purchased other least expensive reels. Well, I still have that old fart and 20+ years of use and abuse without any problems prove that it was a good purchase, do the math: 90 / 20 = 4.5 dollars PER YEAR of use. Heck, I spend more in Cokes in a week. Ask my friends how many time they have purchased reels in those 20 years to substitute the ones they bought.
  8. I say that one and a half ounce less in weight is worth every penny of the 50 bux difference. But you 're not paying 50 more for 1.5 ounces less, you are paying 50 more for 4 ARBs vs 4 stainless steel sealed bearings. I 've fished with both ( a friend of mine has a CU100D ), it 's great reel but not like the Chronarch.
  9. Per request: ICE FISHING = term we us southern boyz use to describe the activity of scooping out the last ice cubes from the cooler after you 're out of penguin butt cold beers in 110° weather.
  10. RM is right on. I say NO TAPE because the first thing you are going to do is grab your trusty transparent Scotch tape and the adhesive in your trusty regular Scotch tape can peel up the reel finish.
  11. EXPORT JDM Curado = Scorpion 1000, 1500 Castaic = Scorpion Quickfire Chronarch Mg = Scorpion Mg Chronarch = Metanium. Scorpion is a generic name given by Shimano Japan to their sub Metanium models Laggy, in domestic reels all reels under the Chronarch were given the generic name Bantam. ( Bantam Curado ).
  12. KU hit it on the head, what version of media player you have ?
  13. Nah, that 's how you yanks looks like when you come down south and taste our food.
  14. My 30+ years of fishing experience tell me not to pay attention to the moon phases.
  15. Central Mexico Avid, the lake is called Zimapán. But 90% of the lakes I fish look like that one, some with chunk rock like Zimapan others have smooth surfaced rock. T rigged worms don 't work well in lakes with lots of broken fist size sharp edged chunk rock like Zimapán, the bullet shape of the sinker hangs up in an eyeblink between those rocks, C-rigged worms with an egg sinker work a lot better and they don 't hang up. Jigs work well on the fall, but they also hang up if you don 't hop them.
  16. I've heard nothing good about the 1st generation Rapala wiggle warts One of my favorite and most productive crankbaits.
  17. Regular Shimano Curado 100B bearings are compatible with Scorpion 1000 bearings so, you can order them to Shimano.
  18. Oh well, if you didn 't like the Pixy most probably you won 't like anything, all the other reels ( Alphas, Alphas Type F, Sol ) are about the same size.
  19. There are many reels, some fancier, some smoother, some more expensive but none of them have the extraodinary qualifications the old Curado has.
  20. Ya know why we us southern boyz are tuff as nails ? Mommy feeds us with this when we,s kids:
  21. Sammy is a good option Avid also hard jerkbaits, with such steep banks fish are located at different levels along the ledge, by walking the dog parallel to the bank not far apart from the ledge you literally call them up from the depths. I fish that lake and many other lakes with similar structure with Salty Centipedes, wacky rigged but weighted with a #5 split shot without allowing it to touch the bottom, Senkos T-rigged in split shot rig allowing them to touch the bottom but NOT HOPING the rig but shaking it. Tubes are lethal presented on banks like those, no hoping again, just pulling the tube and allowing it to fall on a slighty slack line so they helicopter as they fall into the next step, fish usually grab them as they fall along the bluff. With crankbaits I start by casting parallel to the bank with a subsurface runner, then a mid runner, then a deep runner and finally an extra deep runner, that way I "slice" the wall. Dropshotting is very effective in very steep banks, drop the rig, shake several times, then drag the rig several feet again and shake so you can follow the bottom contour. When fishing banks like those boat position is very important, there 's absolutely no point at all to cast perpendicular to the bank. Position your boat PARALLEL to the bank, about 6-10 ft away from it at the most. Any point no matter how small it is becomes a prime spot. Same lake Avid: Nice bass:
  22. Laggy, Laggy, Laggy, do I have to teach you everything ? : Please, NO TAPE !. Run the line through the line guide, take a few inches of the line and reverse to create a loop, twist a couple of times, then tie a knot; now you 've got a loop at the end of the line, place the loop around the reel foot.
  23. Steep like this ?
  24. No problem with parts RM, there 's nothing fancy in the reel, the only difference between both reels is the name, in case something breaks you can use Calcutta GT spare parts. The only Japanese Shimano reels that have differences with domestic reels are the Scorpion 1000 and the Scorpion Mg, and it 's limited to the braking system. Obviously if you screw up the 4x4 SVS it 's going to take a loooooooong time before you can put your hands on an original spare. Gearing is the same or compatible ( Scorpion 100 = Curado100B, Scorpion Mg = Chronarch 50 Mg ).
  25. It is EXACTLY the same reel, the only difference is the name and if you shop around ( GinRinPeche e-bay ) you can get a Conquest a lot cheaper than a Calcutta GT.
