  1. Oh, so you finally got hooked, huh ? BaitMonkey got you good, how about allowing the BaitMonkey have you twice good ? Got a buddy that just loves this rod paired to his Pixy: Have heard only good things about : There 's a L model: BRSC-64L In the domestic department there 's rod for your needs: GLoomis CR841C, GL3 7 feet UL
  2. Dude, how you think I got started ? 600+ cranks, 100+ spinnerbaits, 50+ lbs of soft plastics, 50+ swimbaits, 20 reels and 15 rods later there 's always something I want to own. A week ago purchased another 2006 Pixy and ......... I think a St Croix Leyend Elite + a Daiwa Sol are sure going to make a really good lookin ' combination.
  3. Core melt down and a big bang ? :-?
  4. Of course it works on largemouth.
  5. Lures are not species specific so there 's no reason why lures wouldn 't work in any environment on any kind of predatory fish. I 've caught calico, sand & yogi bass, red snapper, snooks and pargo with stickbaits in the sea.
  6. FF, such as trees and brush piles , are not structure, brush piles and trees are cover. Structure is the contour of the terrain on which the lake is sitting on. Structural features are the elements man made or natural found on the terrain like a creek or river bed, a flat, a hump, rock piles, landslides, bottom composition, etc. Certain types of vegetation like certain types of trees grow only in very specific locations, for example, in my country willows and ahuehuetes only grow where the soil is moist year round, that only happens along the creek or river beds, locate a row of willows ---> bingo, the channel is right at the feet of the trees.
  7. A good size Pacu can chomp your finger away with ease, they have even more powerful teeth and jaws than piranhas that only eat flesh, pacus on the other hand have to bite through ver hard skinned fruit and nuts.
  8. Not trying to be an arse but check out the "important topic section", see ? there 's a FAQ section about senkos. CLICK HERE
  9. $8-$9 bones a pack is what I 've seen them run for.
  10. Choose the color you like the most, present it right in the right location with confidence and you 'll catch fish.
  11. Not only sand is what enters the reel when you dip, all the water living creatures also enter the reel ( ex.- algae ) and you don 't want that making a pureè with your gear grease.
  12. There can 't be many opinions on the subject of a reel that 's not even seen the shelves, the new Stradic Mg ( launched a couple of years ago ) is a lot better than the old Stradic Mg ( discontinued a couple of years ago ), Shimano got it right. The Tierra looks good, it took the place of the old Capricorn which was a very good reel, so far the experience of those who have purchased a Tierra is very limited, it 's so limited that at least two members have purchased the Tierra and they haven 't owned the reel for more than a couple of months ( perhaps less ) so to a certain point their opinion is valid but on the other part lacks of validity because it lacks the most important test of all to tell if the reel is what you are expecting from it: the test of time. What I liked about Daiwas: Nice shape Very smooth Air bail Machine cut handle Very smooth drag that can sometimes be touchy What I liked about Shimanos: Bullet proof Good drag
  13. CXX is not called extra extra strong for nuthin ', it really is extra extra strong, pulled a 30 lb log with 12 lb test and the line didn 't even sweat it, uprooted huisache brush with it also, and for those who don 't know what huizache is just let me tell you, you don 't mess with that stuff .... it uses line as dental floss. Huisache, very very tough and nasty:
  14. Sensitivity as far as the line is concerned has a lot to do with the density of the material that 's being used to manufacture it, braided is more sensitive than nylon for that reason, the reason why flouro is a better leader material than nylon is because it 's denser and more abrassion resistant. By tying nylon as a leader you loose a little bit of sensitivity, of course all this balance goes to hell when your rod is not sensitive.
  15. ***, ordered stuff on Monday, got my package on Wednesday at 7:00 PM, but that 's not all of it, it was international shipping.
  16. OUT OF THE CLOSET POOPER : This is a colleague who poops at work and is d**n proud of it. You will often see an Out Of The Closet Pooper enter the bathroom with a newspaper or magazine under his or her arm. Always look around the office for the Out Of The Closet Pooper before entering the bathroom. Yup, that 's me ! As a matter of fact: better loose a friend than a chunk of intestine.
  17. Wait until the hurricane season starts Avid, you 'll have plenty of water when that begins.
  18. Physiological adaptation to the environment. EX: People living in high altitudes like the sherpas in the Himalayas and the Peruvian, Bolivian and Chilenan native americans of the Andes have anatomical and physiological characteristics that belong to them after thousands of years of living in high altitudes, these characteristics are not found in people from other places; they are shorter, have wider thorax, higher red blood cell count and higher content of hemoglobin in the red blood cells, all this because they adapted to low oxygen levels and colder temperatures. Not enough differences to make them a separate species. You can 't tell the difference between them unless you count the scales along the lateral line, FB have 70-72 scales, northern strain have 65-67 scales.
  19. 1.- Genetics: Florida strain grows larger than northern strain 2.- Environment: like warm water ( which means larger growing season and less loss of food sources ), Florida doesn 't have a chance to grow fish to mammoth size frequently because there are several environmental causes that put the odds against it, predators like gators and water turkeys, pelicans, and very important, loss of habitat due to human activities. Mexico has very little predators like gators, there are gators but their geographical distribution is very limited, lakes where there are gators like Aguamilpa don 't produce mammoth size fish frequently. 3.- Food: not only the nutritional value but the abundance, Cali, lots of hatchery raised trout dumped into the lakes frequently, Mexico, lots of Tilapia which spawn 2-3 or even 4 times depending on the height above sea level. Texas, panfish, lots of panfish.
  20. It 's going to be really hard to find them Katsuage hooks, I still haven 't found someone that carries them in assortment of sizes, here are some that may work for you. If sharpness is the ticket for you then replace them in other baits with Owners, if you want the outbarb design because it looks different then VMC Barbarian Outbarb is the ticket ( they are sharp but not as sharp as Owner )
  21. Dan ( Lightningrod ) had some of those, I was going to pull the trigger on a couple when he told me not to do so, the wings fell off on his after a couple of fish, so I have to thank Dan again for saving me some bucks on the lures and a couple sessions of anger management after seeing my lure without wings.
  22. Yes, the magnetic weight transfer does help a lot in the flying abilities of the bait, for ex, Shad Raps are great, but not exactly the best flying bait out there, the MegaBass Deep X or the Lucky Craft US Shad have similar profile but cast like if you were casting a rock: See that submerged brush over there ? man get closer or steer in a better position so the wind helps my Shad Rap to fly over there ....... grab a Deep X and reaching that brush is no problem. Many Japanese baits incorporate things you wish you had in your baits, like the weight transfer system, others have distinctive shape that makes them move in a completely different way, like the MegaBass Flap Slap, it doesn 't look like much at first glance: what ? 20 bones for a jerkbait ?!? , oh yeah but when you study it on more detail you discover that the bait is not symetrical, one side is flatter than the other, this causes the bait to move sideways in a sharpest angle, roll on it 's side and glide when jerked, it 's still a jerkbait but it moves like no other jerkbait does. Don 't know why many bad mouth the Live Pointer ( yup, that multisection japanese jerkbait ), it 's a great producer for me, in few ocassions you can see fish traveling a long distance to strike a bait and that one causes that reaction. Not saying that you won 't catch fish with the common cranks, they still catch fish and I fish them most of the times but there are times that those 15-25 bones japanese baits are worth every penny you paid for them. Having some of them in your T-box doesn 't hurt.
  23. Welcome to the forum ! Something to think about: - Been fishing for bass a little bit over 2 decades ( 27 years to be more precise ) - Started as a RT fisherman 34 years ago - Caught my first trout on a Rapala Original Minnow ( which I still have ) - Caught countless trout on Rapalas - Caught my first bass on that very same Rapala Original Minnow - Caught my first 10+ pounder on another Rapala Original Minnow - Caught my PB on a Rapala Shad Rap - Roughly 85% of all my 600+ plus cranks are Rapala - The only Rapala I have something bad to say about is the Long Cast minnow ( don 't purchase that one ) So if I were to purchase cranks based on my experience Rapala would be my first choice and at 5-7 bucks a pop they aren 't really that expensive, taking in consideration that I 've caught thousands of fish with them.
  24. Most of my lures are 1/8, 1/4 and 3/8...i can kinda get a decent cast with a 3/8 lure Man, I don 't understand what you are talking about specially the part "i can kinda get a decent cast with a 3/8 lure", if you kinda get a decent cast with a 3/8 lure I just can 't imagine the kind of cast you get from a 1/8, if "decent" is with the heaviest lure how undecent is with the lightest lure. I don 't get it. :-/
  25. My favorite is the Jitterbug, my most productive is the Jitterbug which is not really a big surprise simply because I fish with a Jitterbug more than with all my other topwaters together just because I like the gurgling sound of the Jitterbug. I also like the Gatta X and the BPS locust, they gurgle like the Jitterbug. Got a friend that just loves Torpedoes and it 's his most productive topwater since his go-to topwater is is the Torpedo.
