  1. The higher you go on the power the more lure weight and strength you will need to "load up" the rod, so, no you won 't match your kiddo 's 60 ft casts with a ML rod while he 's casting with a UL. It 's not the reel, nor the line but the rod.
  2. Wow! I have NEVER heard anyone make a negative comment about a Chronarch, NEVER! There 's always a first time for anything my friend. The TDX SuperTuned is a great reel and it 's not for me, there 's soemthing about the profile that just doesn 't feel right, go figure.
  3. Well, with gummy worms you are a "environmentaly friendly" angler cuz they are biodegradable, and you save some money too, instead of purchasing those expensive biodegradable worms like Ecogear, Megabass and Gulp. With the same ammount of money you purchase a big bag of gummy worms.
  4. Actually I 've never had the opportunity to get some but it 's one of those things that makes you go hmmmm, what do I want them for when I 've got about 20 packs of Sweet Beavers ? :-? .... ahhhhh, but the BM is powerful indeed. :
  5. Don 't know if your store will carry them but here they are: Flappin ' Hog
  6. For that kind of money and now that GinRinPeche closed it 's e-bay store there 's no point in purchasing a Japanese reel when you get the same thing in a domestic version, the good thing about GinRin was that you could get a good japanese reel anywhere from 50 to over a 100 dollars less than it 's domestic counterpart. With domestic reels you have repair service and guarantee, with Japanese reels you are on your own. The only differences between the Alphas and the Sol are the handle ( which lightens the reel ) and one gear aluminum ( which lightens the reel ) vs brass, the rest is exactly the same and now the Alphas costs 20-50 dollars ( depending upon the version ) more than the Sol. Right now the only Japanese reel I would go for in that price range would be the Daiwa Pixy which has no equivalent in the domestic market and designed specifically for finesse fishing, but that 's about it.
  7. After owning hooks in practically any size I finally settled in two sizes: #1 and 3/0, with those I rig everything.
  8. Better start talking about your confidence: really love using red hooks...trebles on cranks...ewg for plastics. I think it improves your chance of the bass hitting the bait you are throwing. You think it makes a difference ? I 'm the first one to tell you to have red hooks in every single bait you own, as long as they are good quality razor sharp hooks. I didn 't do any experiments with red hooks, it just happened, I ran out of hooks and the only ones available in the size, shape & brand I wanted were red, so I purchased and fished with them and my findings mimic others, they made absolutely no difference whatsoever.
  9. Zillion 6.3:1 = 28 inches per turn, Zillion 7:1 = 30 inches per turn, long 90 mm handle, large line capacity good for the regular 1/4+ oz lure but not for light lures. Fuego, the poor man 's TDZ, lighter than the others stock 80 mm handle, magnesium frame, large line capacity good for the regular 1/4+ oz lure but not for light lures, dry drag system that can sometimes be touchy if contaminated with lubricant, same 28 inches per turn. TDA super tuned, very good reel and relatively "affordable", large line capacity good for the regular 1/4+ oz lure but not for light lures, dry drag system that can sometimes be touchy if contaminated with lubricant, same 28 inches per turn. Rojo, the exact same reel as the Procatster PR100H/HL with a different paint job and a couple more bearings that will make it feel smooth because they are in the knobs, not much of an upgrade from the PR 100. From the Daiwas I would go for the Fuego just because it weights less than the others. In that price range in Shimano ...... since you have considered the Rojo well, let 's add the Citica to the list. Citica, oh boy better than the old Curado SF for 30 dollars less. Curado, so many sizes to choose from, I would go for the Curado 100 Chronarch Mg, fantastic little beast that will outcast any of the others. From the three Shimanos I would go for the Chronarch Mg.
  10. To a certain point RW is correct, suspended fish are mostly on "inactive" mode, doesn 't necessarily mean they can 't be catchable, it means that they are hard to catch ( sometimes really hard to catch ) if you are patient and stubborn you can still catch a few. One way I attack them is with a suspending crankbait if I can reach them with it, a dirty trick is to increase the size of the hooks to the next size up in a Rapala Shad Rap, the added weight of the larger hooks is enough to make the bait suspend, cast the fartherst you can to make the bait dive so that when it 's running at it 's max diving depth it runs to the level at which the fish are holding, stop and twitch the bait, twitch and keep twitching with an ocassional jerk so the bait moves right in front of their faces while you reel in the slack line. I catch a few by doing that. Another way I attack them is with a soft plastic jerkbait ( like a Shad Assasin and more recently with a GYCB Shad Shape worm ) or a small sized paddle tail or curly tail grub or minnow ( 4" ) rigged on a 1/16 - 1/32 oz jighead, with 6-8 pound test and spinning gear and a ML rod ( or L ). Cast an let it sink ( about a ft every 2 seconds depending upon the shape of the bait ) until it reaches the depth at which the fish are holding. Once it has reached that depth it 's time to start shaking the bait, small shakes of the rod tip ( nothing fancy ) while you reel in the slack, three or four turns of the handle, let it sink again for a couple of seconds and begin shaking again while you retrieve. Usually I can milk some fish while doing this, when you feel the fish do not set the hook like if you are trying to cross it 's eyes, just lift the rod and reel in, the fish will hook itself. Another method requires the use of a kahle hook and a nail weight, same setup. Grab the bait and about 1/3 of the length you insert your kahle hook like if you were wacky rigging the bait but instead of rigging it in the middle of the bait you are going to rig it ALONG the bait, then insert the nail weight in the head. Cast, let it sink and do exactly like I explained previously. RAZOR SHARP hooks please !
  11. Everything I know about catching Double Digit Ok, here 's the deal about what I know: If you are not there it 's never going to happen, so stop spending your time in front of the darned PC and go try catch a big one. Which brings me to a next point in saying I 'm plain sick 'bout Fish Chris posting his big feesh and humbling us all away. Ok FC, beat this one !!!!!!:
  12. The only way you can be proficient with a particular type of bait is fish with it until you consistently catch fish with it, this adds to your versatility in different bait styles and different fishing techniques to adapt to different situations and different surroundings and environments. Catt may have been catching fish for the last 35 years ( me too ) but that doesn 't mean that I would apply that particular rigging technique to every single lake I go to fish, T rig with a bullet sinker any bait in a lake like Zimapán and prepare yourself to hang up every single time you hop the bait in the chunk rock that forms the lake.
  13. That is what I call a real weapon, all the rest is just small talk.
  14. They can not be digested unless they are biodegradable. If in the stomach they can be regurgitated, if in the intestine it can either pass and the fish poops it or it can cause an obstruction and the fish suffer from malnutrition, emaciation and death.
  15. Try an Ika.
  16. Avid is getting spoiled , not still a Shimano convert but how about spoiling yourself with a Daiwa round ? Millionaire my man. 8-)
  17. Now let 's see another example, FC 's post show a real chubby, my post showed an slimy, here 's how a "normal" fish would look: Compare the size of the head to the lenght and width of the body, the slight protuberance of the belly. A bass with big head and slim body is a malnourished bass.
  18. What do you see ? I see an extremely poorly fed bass. Compare it to a well fed animal just like the one FC showed and difference is quite noticeable.
  19. Yeah right. : That 's about when I can leave my sweater.
  20. I 'm with Dan on this one, can 't help it, I like the heat.
  21. Oh, so what you are saying is that you would want to have let 's say, 5 in this color, 5 in another color and so on until you fill 40 baits. That 's an easy one, get with a couple of friends and order several colors and split the baits with them.
  22. Another vote for the Shad Rap, color, choose the one you like. Storm Wiggle Wart Storm Thundercrank Megabass Bait X Tail Dancer
  23. I really like the Hog, but won 't say no to a Beaver, actually the only creature bait I hate is GYCBs Kreature, not because it doesn 't catch fish, nope, it ain 't the price either ....... it 's because them danged bluegills give it a frigging haircut so fast that by the time I retrieve my bait all I reel in is the body ! , no flaps, no hair, no nuthin .... just a plastic stick >
  24. Translation: We are not interested in selling bulk quantities.
  25. Willow leaf blades have less "lift" than Colorado blades, to make a willow leaf run shallow you really need to reel in like mad while with the Colorado is a piece of cake.
