  1. In practical terms any method of rigging that can be applied to all the other soft plastics can be applied to a brush hog, the only one that doesn 't work just because the bait doesn 't swim is the shadding rig.
  2. Just be shure you are not the tallest element in the lake, otherwise your fishing rod turns into a lightning rod.
  3. In-line spinners, all he has to do is to cast and retrieve.
  4. Avid, you don 't remove the handle and put a drop of oil in there, the oil will drop to other side , the handle supporting bearings are around the little square hole where you insert the handle, you drop the oil between the square hole and the sideplate that way you oil the bearing ( s ). The main shaft I was talking about is where the spool attaches to the reel, remove the spool & turn the handle until the main shaft extends to it 's maximum, drop one or two drops of oil between the shaft and the rotor and turn the handle a couple of times so it takes the oil with it inside.
  5. Check this puppy, click on the square right above where it says length. Bass do love them here too, there 's another bug that hatches during the summer ( which I hate cuz they eat my figs ), the green june beetle ( we call them "mayates" ): Kanabun colored topwaters look like them ( metallic emerald green ), when they hatch you make a killing fishing with topwaters.
  6. I 've never seen 17 year cicadas down here where I live in central Mexico, but every two years we do get a cicada hatching, they look pretty much like the one in the picture, there you are in the lake with temps in the 100s+, blazing sun, scorching heat and ......... that annoying sound all friggin day long ! , add to that the crickets :. It ain 't pretty.
  7. Something like this ? There are several species whose life cycle varies from 2-5 years so in the ones with shorter life cycles is not extraordinary to see them every one or two years while the 17 year cicada only appears every 17 years. Locusts are a type of grasshopper.
  8. I oil the handle supporting bearings, the main shaft, the roller and the bail mechanism.
  9. LBH obviously missed Avid 's pic with his son in law. ;D
  10. Dude, hooksets are for free, whenever you feel anything strange ( tap, nibble or nothing like if you bait has "dissapeared" from the other en of your line ) set the hook.
  11. A good sensitive rod is needed to fish crankbaits & spinnerbaits in a place like this one, you should see how it looks below ther surface:
  12. Dang ! bring the brews, the hot sauce and lots of napkins. ;D
  13. Any modern day reel handles braided line very well, there have been great improvements in coatings and materials to protect the reel against the abrassion generated by braided line on the spool lip and line roller.
  14. In baitcasters 15" IPT 3.8 - 4.3:1 20-22" IPT 4.8 - 5:1 25"+ IPT 6.2 - 7:1 Reason why gear ratio is a very tricky way to measure the real "speed " of the reel, for ex, the Calais 200 DPV has a gear ratio of 5:1 but it only picks 17". Catt mentions an important point, you have a certain rhythm when you reel in, specially when you reel in steadily with certain baits or in certain techniques, having a reel with a specific speed allows you to do reel in at your everyday pace without having to worry that you are reeling in too fast or too slow, certain baits like crankbaits not always react well when reeled in at high speeds, they lay on their side and not wobble well, or for ex when you are fishing baits that generate slack like soft plastics, to maintain contact with your bait you have to maintain a tight line, a fast reel allows you to pick up the slack fast so you never loose contact with your bait.
  15. Yes Kew, but if it were for Patton the WWII would have never ended when it did, he insisted to continue the war but now instead of Germany as the enemy it would have been the Soviet Union, with it 's monstrous manpower, completely unreacheable factories, massive oil fields and natural resources behind the Ural mountains. Besides that, the war against Japan wasn 't over yet so listening him talk about continuing the war now against the Soviet Union it must have sounded to Truman 's ears like listening to a lunatic. There 's no doubt that the man was an outstanding warrior, a great leader of armies, he had the skill, he had the knowledge of the art of war, he had the historical knowldge, he was in the right time in the place but by no means he was a good politician nor economist. Wars are fought not only with guns, bullets, guts and blood.
  16. The only thing I remember that resembles the first one is the japanese "Swimming Snake" from Berkley ( Japan ).
  17. I like something with around 15-17" IPT ( Curado 200B38 ) for slow rolling big willowleaf spinnerbait, deep/extra deep running crankbaits & sinking swimbaits; something with around 20-22" IPT ( Alphas ) for shallow/mid depth cranks & spinnerbaits and something with 25"+ IPT ( Scorpion 1000, Scorpion Mg, TDZ, Curado 200, Chronarch SF ) for soft plastics & jigs, hard jerkbaits & topwaters.
  18. 1 picture says more than a thousand words, got a pic ?
  19. There are two things that stop me from nightfishing from the bank: 1.- that rattling sound you hear 3 ft away from your feet ain 't a RatL-Trap and 2.- that goofy little critter on your arm with a pointy tail and claws ain 't a crawfish.
  20. Guess who fishes with musky size Jitterbugs. Don 't get many hook ups with them but when I happen to get one it 's usually a goodun.
  21. Cast, let it sink to the desired deoth and reel in slowly, barely enough to make the tail kick.
  22. Originally I was an Abu fan Ceph, that was until I purchased a Torno. A friend of mine recently purchased a Revo S and let me fish with it a couple of hours, obviously I was skeptical about the new Abu reels but let me tell you, the Revo is a quantum leap from those s*ty previous generation Abu LPs. No they are not going to gain me as customer again, now the only question remaining is how long the new Revos are going to last.
  23. Some food for thought: Me purchasing a bunch of nice rods and reels or my boy getting a college education. I guess the kid is going to get a scholarship otherwise he ain 't going to college.
  24. The dark side is waiting for you with open arms, we always accept converts.
  25. Now that 's an excellent answer.
