  1. For typing the exact opposite, had to type "anything" on the other forum and "everything" on this one, ya know, lapsus brutus. :
  2. You return it to Shimano and get a new rod.
  3. Sorry for that, was typing in another forum at the same time. Xtra fast tips are good for everything except cranking, cranking is best with a medium/ medium slow action or with mod fast/fast really noodly M/ML rod.
  4. Xtra Fast is good for anything except for cranking.

    Crank'n

Don 't pay attention to Chris ' tips, the man knows chit about crankin. Good post Chris.
  6. The Brush Hog is a real big chunk of plastic.
  7. Watch out, they can become addictive, it 's a very fun rod to fish with.
  8. Actually the reel won 't come off from the real seat on the hookset, what the lossenes causes is that it makes the rod rotate when it reaches the end of the hood, something that happens in a split second and it really takes you by surprise.
  9. Not a bad rod for the price, better looking and with better guides than a Lightning Rod, in that rod, MH Xtra fast action it is as subtle as a pool cue.
  10. Dude, after reading: Earlier this year i went thru 3 lowrance fish finders you have a serious electrical problem in your boat, no wonder why you are not only killing fish but also fish finders. You switched brands ( I suppose of fishfinders ) them the other brand must have higher tolerance to electrical issues.
  11. Where I was: I was watching the TV getting ready to have some breakfast ( my wife was cooking me an omellette ) when I changed the channel to the news, they were reporting that a plane had crashed against one of the twin towers, then like a malignant spot which grew larger another plane appeared in the sky and approached the other tower and crashed against it. One of the most memorable days of my life, I remember it as clearly as the day I watched in TV the man landing on the moon back in 1969. Now, like the people of Nagasaki say: what 's worse than being bombed with a nuclear weapon ? being the SECOND city to be bombed by a nuclear weapon, everybody remembers the first ( Hiroshima ), few people remember the second. Something that brings us to the following, for remembering this date alone you are forgetting the people that died in the USS Cole, you are forgetting the people that died in the bombings of the American Embassies in Kenya and Tanzania, you are also forgetting the servicemen that died in the bombings of the American barracks in Riad, you are also forgetting the people that died in the first attack on the WTC. How about the people that died in the bombings in the UK, Spain and Bali, do you remember them too ? DON 'T EVER FORGET THEM EITHER !! all of them were also victims of this insanity.
  12. Simple, fish are the only creature that grow larger every time you talk about the one that got away, if you are not holding it weights ........zero, nada, nuthin.
  13. Please clarify your question, so far I 've understood .... nothing :-? , first you entitle your question: bullet or no bullet which I assume means bullet sinker ( or at least that 's how I understand it given the context ), then you tell us that you fish pretty clear water and then you ask if you should use a bead which I assume means glass bead. Which was it: 1.- should you use a bullet sinker or not because you fish very clear water or 2.- because you fish very clear water you should also use a glass bead along with the bullet sinker or not ? Actually now I 'm going to ask you, do you really know what 's the function of the glass bead ?
  14. BPS has one made of wood, nice looking, cheap ( $ 50 bones ) that can hold up to 8 rods with reels attached that can either be left standing on it 's own or can be mounted on a wall.
  15. I did try the Helium 5BL, a friend of mine has one and I 've fished with it, nice rod but when I purchased the Mags I didn 't have the extra $100 ( 50 per rod ) required to jump from the Mag TS to the Helium ( BaitMonkey purchased several Megabass lures so he left me short on kash ); by no means I 'm saying they are a bad product, I 'm saying that Kistler 's decision going with that particular reel seat wasn 't the smartest one and also the only flaw in the design of the rod is the handle diameter which is not going to fit right away thousands of customers and potential customers like me with small hands. Haven 't seen in the flesh a Helium II but for the looks of it ....... it has that danged beefy handle too . Will I ever purchase a Kistler again ? sorry but no, I 'll stick to what I know, never had any issues with GLoomis, Shimano or Falcon, with St Croix as long as I saty away from the Avid series with it 's bumpy handle I know I 'll be fine. I 'm not mad at Kistler, I like the blank, I played the dice and lost with the reel seat and the handle diameter. I 've been suggested to sand away the excess cork but I 'm not that skilled and the only thing I 'm going to do is ruin a perfectly good rod like in new conditon ( not even the cork is dirty ) that I could sell or trade in the future.
  16. Wind will always drift almost any boat, it 's just that with a small boat the drift is greater than with a bigger boat or with a V hull boat. Got the same boat you have, 12 ft jonboat and I carry 2 anchors ( one in the front and one in the back ) to maintain a stationary position, anchors will bang if you allow them to bang them on the hull, get rubber coated mushroom anchors, those won 't slide and won 't bang.
  17. I have two Lightning Rods that are over two decades old and still fish with them, back then tehy were top of the line later to be removed from their pedestal by the Bionox and later by the Series One. Of course they are not comparable to the newer ones but for the price they are still quite good, my only beef with them is that they no longer have ceramic inserts in the guides but stainless steel inserts. Why a rod breaks has a lot of story behind, have had numerous rods in the past and in 34 years of fishing I 've only experienced 3 rod breakings, 2 of which can only be attributed to my own stupidity and 1 due to manufacturer defect ( Lightning Rod with polymer injected tip ), the rod exploded from the tip all the way down to the reel seat when I set the hook on a fish which was later replaced by the manufacturer with the same rod which hasn 't failed in all those years. Funny that you mention them, just yesterday I fished with them and had a blast. I think those reviews clearly show that it 's easy to blame the manufacturer and in many cases we are the only ones to blame.
  18. I own two Mag TS, All Purpose 6'6" MH and Crankbait 6'6", the reel seat is my main complain, Batson on mine, loose reels on both >. My second complain would be something that has more to do with my particular size of hands which should not be too much of a trouble if you have bigger hands than mine, the diameter of the cork section of the handle is several milimeters more than the one found with other manufacturers which increases the overall perimeter of the handle, with my small hands this represents a not "fit like a glove" and a strange feel to the rod. I know that the new Mag TS no longer have that reel seat, but it would be like a lottery, you may get you Mag TS with Batson reel seat ( and get loose reels ) or you may get it with a Fuji reel seat, but that would depend greatly on where you purchase the rod and if where you purchased they still have remaining stock of Mag TS with Batson reel seat, Mag TS ' weren 't recalled to have the Batson reel seat replaced for a Fuji reel seat. :-X I like the way the blank in them behaves specially in the Crankbait series, but I 'm not in love with them.
  19. Yes there is an easy fix: electrical tape, a small piece of electrical tape on the back reel foot will solve the problem. But there 's absolutely no reason and no excuse for the reel foot not seating PEFECTLY TIGHT in a rod of that price, hell, not even in a 50 dollars rod. If I were you and could solve so easily my problem with my Kistlers I would send or take the rod back, got CR721, CR722, CR723, MBR783 in GL2, IMX and GLX and all my reels fit perfectly, reels that include Scorpion 1000, Scorpion 1000 Mg, Cronarch 50 Mg which share exactly the same frame ( and same reel foot ) with the CU100D.
  20. Use the color you like the most or have the most confidence in. I remember back in the old days when pro 's and celebrities like RM, BD or JH used to talk about which worm colors you should have in your T box: Black Red Blue Green Purple Which actually doesn 't describe anything at all, how many hues you can find in each basic colors, chartreuse is green-ish, but so is watermelon and so on, now to that how manu combinations of two or more colors you can have, add to that flakes in different colors and you will end up with a rainbow of colors and all of them work.
  21. If it helps your confidence use them.
  22. Nope, I don 't think I 'll ever use my thumb instead of the drag, after all, that 's exactly what the drag is for, if you tell me your dad uses a perhaps 30 or 40 year old reel then maybe the thumb would be a smoother washer than what you used to find in those reels, but with modern reels such school of though simply just does not apply, modern reel drag washers are ages ahead from those old oiled compressed paper/felt/leather found in older reels. The drag components in your reel have to be changed for new ones, you can do it yourself or have it done by a professional.
  23. With swimbaits I strongly advice against it, big baits are not like little baits and those make the beast run out of control in a split second, you end up with the mother lord of all backlashes plus the line can snap and your swimbait goes flying into the next country. For other baits I use almost no braking or no braking at all, but the only reel where I have my braking on ( lightly ) at all times is my swimbait reel.
  24. Yup, those are the ratings on the SJR722 ( 6-12 lbs test, 1/8-3/8 oz lures ) .
  25. I use those a lot as drop bait along bluff and rip raps ( cast, let it sink til it hits, lift the rod and allow to fall again until it hits ) also I mid stroll them with small twitches while retrieving or jig off the bottom with them.
