  1. Uhhhhhhhh ......................what 's "fall" ? :-?
  2. No dude, they ain 't "supposed to work", they work.
  3. So let me get this straight : Here we have a clear case of One HUMP, censoring another HUMP: about speaking of yet another HUMP, Did I get that right Avid Humpy isn 't it ?
  4. Ok, I don 't use scent on crankbaits cuz for whatever reason you can think about I don 't see a point in adding scent to something that a couple of seconds later is going to be away from the fish, you want to add scent, feel like adding scent is important and that it 's going to give you an edge I 'll be the first one to say you should use it. On the second part, hve you ever wondered that you might be doing the RIGHT things ( what you described ) but in the WRONG place ? cuz crankbaits are like soft plastics or spinnerbaits, you got to choose the right places to fish with them just as you have to find the right places for fishing with the other stuff. Or that perhaps you are fishing them with the wrong approach ? there ain 't no point in making a beautiful pinpoint dead accurate cast to a stump cuz .......... oh well, by the time the crankbait is exhuding it 's charm it 's gonna be 20 ft away from the stump where the fish were supposed to be so the fish care less about it ( if they care at all ).
  5. I don 't fish natural lakes oftenly, I 've fished natural lagoons at Tamaulipas fed by the Tamesí river, particularily I 'm fond to fish a particular one called La Escondida, it 's about a thousand acres in surface, it 's connected to the river by a small channel 50 yards long and 5 to 6 yards wide, the lagoon ( a beautiful place btw ) is bowl shaped like and 15 ft deep at the deepest point, but 10-12 ft is the average depth, structure: none whatsoever, the bottom is in practical terms as flat as a table, the water clarity ranges from a foot ( at the entrance of the channel ) up to 15 ft ( ultra crystal clear ), the bottom si covered by aquatic plants valisneria type like ( grassy ) plus some water hyacynth and the always present ( at that type of water bodies ) tule ( reeds, cat tails ). Now the catch here is, where you are going to find the fish ? there 's grass covering all the bottom like a carpet, it grows leaving you a clearance between the weeds and the surface of about 2-3 ft, but is all that "carpet" like a carpet ? no, why not ? cuz the bottom composition is not the same all through the bottom so some weeds don 't grow as tall as the others and where the bottom composition doesn 't allow the weeds to grow there 's holes in the carpet. Fish by edges ! the transition between one thing and the other, the edge between the weeds growth and the water is a hard line ( edge ) from one environment to the other, the water surface is a hard line too, where two different types of weeds meet is another one and so on. If you take your time and pay attention and begin to look instead of seeing you will find that not everything is the same, for seeing the forest you don 't look at the trees. That 's what Catt means when he says, find the structure, find the baitfish and you will find the bass, for example, weedbeds have "structure" in their composition and in the way they are constructed by mother nature.
  6. Right on ! Right on x2 We as anglers make the mistake of being visually oriented, we like to fish what we see: a tree, a stump, a weedbed and so on, we tend to forget or simply don 't pay attention to the surroundings and we suck at putting what we see and what we pretend to fish together. We normally don 't understand that some elements are additions and other are sinergic when put together. A creek channel is good, a tree standing right next to the creek channel is better, but a creek channel with a bend with a tree standing on the bend is by far are whole lotta better than the other two in addition. That 's why some places are much more productive than others. We see a weedbed and what you see ? a weedbed : but what 's so important of the weedbed ? it 's not the weedbed per se, it 's upon what the weedbed is growing what matters more than the weedbed itself, what else is around the weedbed is what makes one weedbed by far more productive than another one. It 's really a matter of observation.
  7. Ok, let 's suppose you learn to keep the fish, now let 's suppose it 's legal to keep the fish, now then let 's move on a little bit further, Little ? how little ?, the only "little" bass you can go, fish and keep has to be of legal size, how small is the legal size keeper in your state ? cuz if it ain 't 10 inches then you 're gonna need a big tank for it, somewhere over 30 galons and move up as it grows which means you 'll need some dough to purchase the proper equipment to furnish the tank. When my friend Jorge had the tackle store I did install an aquarium and kept a bass, at first it wasn 't that easy to feed, the critter only took live fish for lunch, with time, patience and a little bit of "starvation" ( not exactly starvation but limited ammounts of food ) I could train the fish to take non living food, he learned that everything we threw at him was food so it was easier to teach him to eat fish fillet chunks, it really ended up being a pain in the neck so I released it. Not saying that you shouldn 't keep a bass as a pet, if it 's legal for you to keep the fish, if the fish is of legal size I have no problem, I 'm just telling you in advance what you are going to encounter in the future, it 's your time, your money and your effort, but as they say, the very young don 't always do what they are told.
  8. When you have achieved the level of skill honed after decades of baitcaster use plus hundreds of dollars in line and you 've got your reel with the brakes set at near zero cuz you are so good at it and the result ain 't prutty to say the least. :-X
  9. Rapala Shallow Fat Rap Heddon Sonic Heddon Super Sonic
  10. The horror stories are true. Just remember, the beast can never be tamed, it can only be controled; it 's there waiting patiently for you to do something wrong ready to pounce on you.
  11. No.
  12. Clarus rods are pretty good for the money, besides you can choose from a really large selection of lengths, powers and actions.
  13. Well, where I live we do have seasons: prespawn, spawn, post spawn and huntin ( we gotta have that one, it 's the only time in the year we can shot at something and not get fined ). Your reel needs different maintenance schedules depending upon the parts involved, spool supporting bearings need a drop of oil every 3-4 trips, the levelwind gear a couple of drops of heavy oil about the same time, the gearing will need greasing less regularily depending upon how much you fish with it, if you are a weekend warrior living up north where the "season" lasts a few months your reel can live with once a year general maintenance, for us guys closer to the south the "season" may extend through the entire year, so for us southern weekend warriors the general reel maintenance should be don a couple of times a year. The more you fish the more mileage our reels get and the closer the maintenace should be done. There used to be a time when I fished every day and I dissasembled, cleaned, lubed and reassembled my reels every two months, did it worked ? well, the three reels I fished with during that time are still in service and they are over 20 years old.

  16. Trilene XT 6lb test -----> AWSOM !!!
  17. I 've fished with Trilene Big Game for a couple of decades, never needed to "upgrade to better line". How does one up grade once you're at the top
  18. Trilene XL is a very good line but it can 't stand 3 casts in the chunk shaly rock bottom of Zimapán.
  19. I 've fished with Trilene Big Game for a couple of decades, never needed to "upgrade to better line".
  20. Nobody said nuthin 'bout doing it only once a year :-?. The ammount of services your reel needs depends on how much you use it, the more you use it the more it 's going to need grease and oil. Reel mech said: once a season , how many seasons does a year have ? :
  21. That 's why they are labeled for super line.
  22. Since such thing ain 't gonna happen then there 's no point in theorizing what if. Don 't buy it. Or buy it and you can have it custom painted to your liking and turn into something like this for just $135:
