  1. Re: Do you match your spinning and casting rods?? NO I have Lightning Rods, GLoomis from GL2 to GLX, Shimano Clarus, BPS Bassmasters, GraphiteLeader, had a couple of Kistlers. I purchase what I like and don 't bother in having a mix of rod brands.
  2. I 've fished with the three lines you are talking about, braking strenght or breaking point is only measuring the tensile pull at which the line breaks, it 's not counting other factors like manageability, user friendlyness, abrassion resitance, plasticity, memory and such. XT is indeed more resistant than Big Game and a lot more resitant than XL in an area, abrassion resitance, so there are many factors involved and not just the line diameter when it comes to selecting the line type that best suits your needs. For me from the three, the best "all round" in all aspects in 10-12 lb test class is Big Game, if I need tougher line I go with XT, XL is a great line where abrassion resitance is not as important but where or when limpness is more important.
  3. If you go oftenly to Spain and want to hook-up with somebody there I suggest you register in the Spanish bass forum ( www.spainbass.com ), there 's bunch of guys there that can help you.
  4. And add to that that Ike whupped good some refineries at the gulf ....
  5. Snow ? :-? .... ahhhhhh, you mean like crushed ice but it don 't come out of a ice crushing machine but falls down to earth from the sky, yup I 've seen the phenomena happen once down here about 11 or 12 years ago ( about 1/64th of an inch ), the previous time such a rare event happened was 85 years before. J/K, we do happen to see it up in the sierra when the conditions are right, last year it didn 't happen in the entire winter, I hope it does this winter, wanna take the kids and take pics of them playing in the snow.
  6. Hispanic women can be meaner than a motherless goat, their weapon of choice is that grinding stone ( called "tejolote" ) they use to grind salsa on a molcajete. See that little stone inside ? that 's it !
  7. Keepin them in salt ?
  8. You can cut the $20 out of the food budget. Gotta thank the AllMighty for the invention of Ramen Noodles, if it weren 't for them I couldn 't have the gear that I have.
  9. Nope, those rods have their mates, they 've been married for a long time and I 'm not the one who 's gonna separate them, they made an oath: till death do us part. Both are matched to a couple of Abu XLT Plus series reels. Pixys are married too, one is married to a CR721, the other one is married to a CR722, got a single Pixy, it still hasn 't found it 's match, I was thinking about getting it a Pixy rod but so far no joy, when BB had one in stock I spent the money on something else and now I 'm kicking myself on the butt for not purchasing it and now I can 't find one available. :-X
  10. I guess you'd already answered that...but thanks for the details. The "rainy season", eh? Interesting. Doesn't sound like the "fall" I know! Not much of a demarcation (temperature) between seasons? What does your winter look like? Does it get much cooler? More to the point: How do your average surface temps look like over the course of the year? 78 80 95 80 78 ? Something like that? Are your bass florida's, or do you have northerns too? Just let me tell you that during my winter I still have to mow the lawn at least every two weeks or it quickly becomes a jungle , it does get "cooler" ( air temps ) by our standards ( in the high 60 's low 70 's ) and "chilly" during the night ( 50-60 ), on very rare ocassions we hit the 40 's ( when you guys up north get them munster size snowstorms ). Water temps seldomly drop below 60° ( that only happens up in the sierras where you can fish for trout ). We have both, northerns, Floridas and hybrids of both subspecies, some lakes have pure Florida strain ( newer lakes ), other lakes have pure Northern strain ( older lakes ).
  11. Oh yeah, ain 't it the truth ? swimbaits n 'submerged mesquite trees don 't match up too good.
  12. In my experience for the places I fish you 'll see the advantage if you spool in superline of the same diameter ( 4-6 lb nylon diameter ), if you spool in the same pound test but in superline you 'll find yourself breaking lines like mad, 4-6 lb test braided is as thin as a hair and the line is not impervious to the abrassion.
  13. Mind boggling: $20 rod/ $500 reel... : Back then during the age of the dinousaurs when I bought those they weren 't exactly "cheap", the price of a LR in those days was 75 dollars plus tax, translate that into todays dollars and they would be in the price range of an Avid.
  14. Don 't got any trubble differentiating 17 lbs test though, that thing is as thick as rope so it 's easy to identify.
  15. LOTZ ! and LOTZ ! of rain ! Lakes are so muddy you can plow the water, it 's cool ( in the lower 80 's ) but humid and it rains, rains and rains sometimes on a daily basis, we may spend days without seeing the sun, and when cloud cover reduces and we can finally see the sun the temps soar into the high 90 's/low 100 's and it gets ........ pretty much like a sauna.

  17. I fish with both, flurescent blue for 8 lbs, clear for 10 pounds, green for 12 pounds, smoke for 14 pounds. It 's just a color code I use to differentiate the pound test.
  18. Well, both lines are monofilamentous, but not the same, CX is copolymer while Big Game is nylon so both lines behave different. As Burley said: Different lines with different applications.
  19. It depends on the quality of the 1 piece vs the quality of the 2 piece. My 2 piece GraphiteLeader Bosco is more sensitive than my 1 piece GLoomis GL2s both being priced about the same.
  20. I still fish with three over 20 years old Berkley Lightning Rods and haven 't noticed any difference in them after more than 20 years of use and abuse.
  21. Different sinkers have different acoustic properties, I select brass over let 's say lead when I want those acoustic properties. A sinker is not just a "sinker".
  22. Different animals, different aplications.
