  1. Then make it 12 lbs test, the right brand and type.
  2. You mean heavy like this ? You don 't need 20 lbs test to fish it, you need the right line to: get your baits into productive depths or pull fish out of cover or minimize line visibility., I fish that place with 10 lbs test.
  3. Well, right there you can see an example. Stoopid is forever.
  4. Bassmasters Magazine March 2008, article 10 Bad Mistakes Bassers make by Ken Duke, page 46, mistake No4: THEY DON 'T USE THE RIGHT LINE Reese beleives that few weekend anglers carry the full assortment of line types and sizes -from 6 to 30 pound test- with them whenever they go fishing. Nor they make the best use of lines. He says "Line diameters and types make a huge difference in lure performance. The difference between 8 lb and 12 lbs can be enormous. Even on power fishing lakes like Toho in Florida or Sam rayburn in Texas, you need lots of lines to choose from so you can make adjustments and catch fish consistently. You need the right lines to get your baits into productive depths or pull fish out of cover or minimize line visibility. It all adds up."
  5. Tragic to say the least, unfortunately this kind of accidents only provide with ammo to those who use it as an argument to ban/control guns > even though we know that guns on their own don 't kill people.
  6. Well, what has worked: The same baits that been working for me for the past two and a half decades: cranks, spinnerbaits, worms, jigs & topwaters. What hasn 't worked: I dunno if it 's me but I once again tried buzzbaits religiously and as usual I caught little to nothing with them >, go figure :-/. I keep hearing buzzbaits are great topwater baits but why they don 't work for me is a riddle. :-?
  7. If I were to limit myslef to only three lures for the rest of my life they would be: 1.- Spinnerbait 2.- Jig 3.- 5" curly tail grub. Why ? Spinnerbait: you can fish it almost anywhere, deep, shallow, fast or slow Jig: you can do a lot of things with it Grub: you can rig it any way you want it, work it in practically any place and you can use it as a trailer for the jig and the spinnerbait.
  8. They are still being produced but not for the American market, those itsy bitsy baits are hot with japanese anglers.
  9. Daiwa reels I own: 3 Liberto Pixy 2005 edition 1 Alphas Type F 1 Alphas Itö 2 TDZ 105H 3 TDZ 103H 1 Revros 2004 1 Theory 2000 If I didn 't think so highly about it I wouldn 't have that many. I think that you get a lot of features for your money when you purchase Daiwa spinning reels.
  10. 5 colors ( black sapphire, midnight chartreuse, black ruby, watermelon/ gold, chartreuse pepper ) 4 bass on each in a 2 hour time, why I changed from black back/blue flake to chartreuse ? oh well I got bored of catching them with one and changed to something else ( making a point to a buddy of mine who insisted that the fish weren 't biting his bait because he didn 't have the "right" color tied on ).
  11. To me it 's simple, if I 'm gonna go and fish from the boat, heck, I ain 't carrying the stuff on my back so I carry as much as I want, but if I 'm going to carry it on my back like when I go on foot patrol I carry only 1 rod, 1 reel and a backpack with two 3600 Plano boxes filled with the "essentials".
  12. What's funny is that Raul is being conservative here. It really is silly strong. Yup, it ain 't called Xtra Xtra strong for nuthin '.
  13. Cuz CXX is absurdly strong so he can get away with such "light" line for crankbaiting. How strong is CXX ? just let me tell you how strong it is, my everyday lake is snag paradise, tons of submerged brush, trees and tree stumps, one day I was fishing with CXX 12 pound test and got my crank snagged on a stump, well I pulled and uprooted the stump, lifted it from 20 ft of water and the line didn 't even cough. If I had unlimited access to 8lbs CXX certainly I would not hesitate in getting some to fish ( I can only get 12 lbs or more and 12 lbs has the user friendliness of wire ). Trilene Big Game, XL or XT 10-12 lbs test is what I use Dom.
  14. I fish heavy cover with Trilene Big Game 10 lbs test about 80% of the time, I go up to 12 pound test when I fish the rocks and 15 lbs when I flip. No need to fish with wire.
  15. That 's a good one. ;D
  16. My number 1 big bass bait is the ole fashioned jig n 'trailer combination. My first 10+ pound fish was caught with a Rapala Minnow and my PB was caught with a Rapala Shad Rap, but I 'd rather think that they were in the right place at the right time cuz other than those fish I haven 't caught fih that big with them ever since, still the jig n 'trailer produces quality fish for me consistently.
  17. The only time I care about lunar tables is when the spawn is near other than that I don 't care about them the rest of the year. I can 't do squat about the moon phase, it 's a variable of nature, can 't do squat about the wind, it 's a variable of nature, can 't do squat about air temperature, it 's a variable of nature; I can 't change them nor modify them, what 's under my control are my lures, my fishing techniques and my knowledge and it depends on how good I 'm at modifying and adapting them to the conditions what makes me catch fish or not.
  18. Ok, most of the time the water is stained with about 18" of visbility, now become the bass, imagine you step out from you home and it 's foggy and the most you can see is 18" inches away ( getting the picture ? ) since visibility is poor then your sense of sight is limited but you can listen, you can smell and you can feel the things moving through the fog, then which kind of trailer you have that emits the most vibrations ? It 's not THAT difficult, it only takes a minute to be the fish and a little reasoning to find what you are looking for.
  19. Rueben, if you are going to fish by "luck" your "luck" will be that, luck, meaning that there will be days you are lucky and the conditions will be right and you 'll make a killing and there will be unlucky days ( which are the vast majoriy of the days ) that you will come empty handed. It 's not a matter of "luck" it 's a matter of fishing the bait in the right location with the right presentation under the right conditions. Poppers have their right place and time just like every other bait in your tacklebox, there 's no science in working a popper, you just twitch or jerk the rod tip to make it plip or plop, how many times you do it ( cadence ) it 's a matter of personal preference, but where you do that and when it 's waht 's important and what determines your "luck".
  20. There 's no "perfect" shakey head worm, like always, size, length, shape is determined by the conditions, just cuz everybody is rigging straight tail worms it doesn 't mean they are "perfect", I rig any kind of worm on my shakey heads.
  21. Brushpiles in what ?: Clear water Stained water Muddy/murky water Cold water Warm water Trailer type, size and shape is determined by the conditions, those dictate the ammount of vibration you need ( like muddy water = curly tails ), the rate of fall ( like cold water = large trailer = slow rate of fall ) and the speed at which you retrieve the jig ( like cold water = slow retrieve ).
  22. Dang ! couldn 't have said it better ; I 'm gonna put that "feeling for unnatural sensations" in my vocabulary. That deserves
  23. X2 I put a lot more emphasis on the type of trailer than in the color of the jig, by type I mean in the following order: 1- Shape 2- Size 3 and lastly on the list ---> color
  24. I 'm a nylon user for the better part, Trilene XT 4/6 lbs test, it 's cheap, can be found everywhere, highly abrassion resistant and incredibly strong for a nylon line.
  25. That 's what could happen.
