  1. I caught my first 10 pounder with one of them many moons ago.
  2. I 've fished 6, 8, 12 lbs test CXX, for what you want it 8 lbs is more than enough, it 's still hair thin like & manageable while being ridiculously strong.
  3. I can 't say how much, it depends on which blank you choose and which components you plan to add, a rod like that built on a GLX blank will run for about 500, the catch here is this, with an import rod you won 't get much warranty ( 1 year perhaps ) with a GLoomis or a St Croix blank you 'll get either company 's warranty applicable to the blank. You break it, GLoomis or St Croix will give you a new blank for little money. With an import, you break it ----> you scrwd. We have other rod builders here: Flechero, Alpster and Reel Mech.
  4. Exactly what I meant, be patient and wait, don 't jump on it, there 's always something else behind the horizon. Latest deal: Chronarch 100B ( not that I need it but ..... aw, man, you know how it is with the furry critter : Price in Mexico $315 + 15 % sals tax Got it for $213, including tax in 6 monthly payments of $35.50 ea.
  5. Oh yeah, it 's hard to free them hooks from the chick without ruining the bait. ;D
  6. I, like many others, didn 't have much to spend other than the money I saved from my allowance, I saved by the pennies and after months all I could afford were mid/low level gear, it served me until it broke or malfunctioned so after a while I got bored and sick of spending twice, plus having my liver petrified in anger cuz the gear broke or malfunctioned After I graduated I got my first job, my first check went into purchasing in what in those days was a great rod, the first Lightning Rods which weren 't exactly the 30 bones a pop rod they are today ( it cost me 85 dollars + tax back then ). My second paycheck went into buying an Abu XLT Plus reel, all my friends told me I was crazy for paying such absurd ammount of money in a reel ( 95 dollars + tax ). Who you think was more right ? None of my friends have the reels they have back then, all of them have replaced and replaced their gear all over throughout the years, I still have my first Abu/Lightning rod combo. 95+85 = 180+ 4.25% tax = $187.65, in the mid 80 's that was a lot of money ! $187.65 / let 's say 25 years = $7.5 dollars per year .... I spend more than that in cigarettes alone in a day. Better spend well once and for all so you never have to spend over again and again. You only spend whenyou want more of the same or slightly better. Deals ? I 'm all in for deals, most of my most recent reels were bought on clearances: Metanium XTs for $200, Scorpions for $150, TDZ 's for $200, Pixys for $240, etc. A 70 dollars reel for 50 is no deal at all. I like everybody gets the itch of purchasing the newest ( BaitMonkey is powerful ) but I know that if I can wait long enough sooner or later I will get a deal. Good things come for those who are patient enough to wait.
  7. Yup, that would be the price for a basic Destroyer, you probably won 't find it cheaper in the US. You may find it cheaper with Plat, but add to the cheaper price the outrageous ammonut of cash you 'll have to pay in shipping charges from Japan to the US and you 'll end up paying perhaps more than getting it from MegabassUSA. If you want something unique I would suggest you contact Matt Davis from Otterrods, he 'll build you a stick ( on a blank you like ) like nothing you can find with all the really kool looking Matagi components.
  8. Irene ..... oh she 's a tough one ! Some things you normally don 't see in the States: GILL NETS ON WEEKENDS !!!!!!!!!!!!!! > Man I understand that people make a living out of comercial fishing in many lakes in Mexico, I know that in Mexico it 's difficult for the government to have inspectors to check them commercial fishermen but these people take advantage out of the lack of enough manpower to check them. The law says that commercial fishing activities can take place for those people with license to do so from Mon-Fri, so keeping their nets during the weekends is a flagrant violation of the law.
  9. Hard to say, here 's a list and you mix and match as you like. Rods: GLoomis CR721 GLoomis CR722 GLoomis CR723 GLoomis CR724 GLoomis MBR782 GLoomis MBR783 GLoomis MBR785 GLoomis SJR782 Reels: Chronarch BSF Curado 200B38 Curado 200B Scorpion 1000 Scorpion 1000 Mg Chronarch 100B Metanium XT Chronarch 50 Mg Citica 200D Sahara 2500 Liberto Pixy Team Daiwa Z 105 H Team Daiwa Z 103 H Alphas Itö Alphas Type F Theory 2000 Now the most fun ( which is a different story from go to ): GLoomis CR721+ Pixy + 8 lbs Yozuri Hybrid GraphiteLeader Bosco GLBS602ML + Daiwa Revros 2004 + 6 lb Trilene XT.
  10. You can 't compare rods from different manufacturers, two different animals; to make it more complicated you can 't compare even between two rods made with the same blank material with different actions or different styles. For example a GLoomis SJR782 IMX ( spinning ) doesn 't behave the same way of a MBR782 IMX ( trigger ), both are built with IMX material, both are medium power fast action but both not only feel different but behave different. No if you compare two trigger rods like a MBR782 vs a MBR783 in which in theory the only diffrence is the power rating ( medium vs medium heavy ) you 'll find that both rods are different. I wpuldn 't purchase a rod that doesn 't "feel" well, feel is highly subjective, what feels well for you may not feel well for somebody else. Personally I like GLoomis rods, I like the way they feel, I 've been fishing with them for many years and when I purchase a GLoomis rod I know what I 'm going to get. About looks, it would be great to have a rod that looks good and feels good, but I will not purchase a rod that looks good but doesn 't feel good. Feel and the way the rod behaves are more important for me than how well it looks. If you want feel you are familiar with but also want looks ---> better have a custom built than an off the shelf.
  11. Line color coding: Clear Blue/fluorescent = 10 lb test Moss Green = 12 Lbs Clear = 14 pounds Smoke = 17 lbs Got a couple of reels with clear line that is not 14 lbs, those got 6 lbs but since they can 't hold heavier than 8 lbs and it 's easy to differentiate 14 lbs ( that looks rope thick next to 6 lbs ) there 's no problem in knowing that those reels have 6 lbs.
  12. I don 't think there is such an upgrade, the TDS and TDX don 't share anything with other models other than the manufacturer. You can change the gears in a TDZ or Fuego for Zillion gears since the same frame is used for the three reels, but I don 't think you can do such with a TDX/TDS. I can 't make a comparison between a TDX and a TDZ, I used to own a TDX super tuned but I sold it several years ago and now I have nothing to compare.
  13. Most probably you 'll never see that reel in the US, besides, it 's a light saltwater reel.
  14. You tell me if it 's worth the ride, the nearest BPS is 3 hours drive from you, the nearest BPS is a 2 hour FLIGHT from me ( Houston or Dallas ), or when I drive to McAllen ( 10 hours drive ) I drive the 3 hours to go BPSing in San Antonio.
  15. The only luxury a poor man can afford is to purchase simply the best with his money, I would not purchase two 50 dollars reels, I would purchase one 100 dollars reel ---> Shimano Cruxis or Daiwa Black Widow ( check TW ). Plus, you get free shipping if you order from them.
  16. Any plastic is fine Any color is fine
  17. I own both, I have the same number of Daiwas than I do Shimanos, I have no preference for either except in one department, for small baits Pixy beats the Chronarch 50 Mg hands down.
  18. Power 2 GLoomis rods are good for: Small & medium weight cranks Small spinnerbaits ( <1/4 oz ) Jerkbaits Small jigs ( <1/4 oz ) Weightless soft plastics Split shotting Shakey headding Light Texas rig with T-exposed hook In other words, power 2 GLoomis rods are good for finesse presentations with enough power. Power 3 GLoomis rods are good for: Trapping C-rig T-rig Spinnerbaiting Jigging Cranking bigger baits Topwaters Pitching Light flipping They are a more "all around" rod, for heavier line and denser cover like flipping or dock skipping you better have a power 4 or 5 Rod with plenty of muscle to horse them out. That would be in general lines what you can use your rods for without having to purchase specialized rods. But if what you want is a crankbait rod then get a CBR.
  19. The "correct" way is the way in which you can control the spool, the 101 defines the general lines in which a baitcaster is set " correctly" but those vary between individulas and their level of skill in controlling the beast with different lure weights, line diameter and casting conditions. All reels are different, some are more touchy than others, it 's up to you to learn how to adjust your reels.
  20. No, there 's no way to compare apples to apples between two different manufacturers, there is no industry standard. Manufacturer "A" may manufacture his rods with let 's say IM6 rating material and those rods may be better than manufacturer 's "B" rods made with IM10 rating material.
  21. NO KIDDIN ! I 'm still on the look to upgrade LATINASESINA 's ouboard from 6.5 to 9.9 HPs ( not that I "need" it ), so I was comparing the outboards and side by side a 9.9 two stroke looks like a toy next to a 9.9 four stroke, weight difference between both is 17 kilograms ! I 'm not that big and strong ( 110 pounds ) to be able to lift a 44 kilogram outboard, plus it reduces the weight carrying capacity of the boat by 17 kilograms. Which you choose, 17 kilograms of outboard or 17 extra kilograms of fishing gear ?
  22. With TMs two things are essential: 1.- get the most powerful you can afford 2.- get the one with the longest shaft you can find You can never have "too much" thrust, most boat packages come with barely the smallest they can get along with and everything is fine until the wind begins to blows. You can never have "too long" shaft, if the shaft is "too long" you can always shorten it, but you can 't do that lengthen a short shaft, everything is fine until the waves begin to grow in height.
  23. Oh yeah, BaitMonkey here I come !!!.
  24. The MBR782 is a good crank rod but a mediocre spinnerbait rod. The MBR783 is a good spinnerbait rod but a mediocre crank rod.
  25. If you want to order a 90 mm TDZ handle you have to order a US Trail TDZ handle.
