  1. Depends on the type of jig.
  2. Well share a lunker intent is obvioulsy to create monster size bass bred from monster size bass, that 's the intent. How I understand limits is to maintain a healthy population with fish in all sizes. The one I don 't undertand is this one: love it when guys say that Japanese bass don't count because its not their native habitat. I don 't how some people can be so ignorant and stubborn to the point of zealousness, in most of the US, like in most of Mexico bass is a non native, so if you catch a bass anywhere where the the fish was introduced then it 's a non native, based upon that school of thought: if it ain 't native it don 't count, those basses caught out of their native waters don 't count either. Yes the fish is native to southern USA and northeast Mexico but it 's not native to the entire country, just to a small part of it.
  3. I think that what separates the line J is the intent, if you have a lake and you suplement on a regular basis you are purposefuly feeding the fish, if you are stocking the lake like in Cali with pan size trout the intent is not to purposefuly feed the bass, it 's to stock the lake with catch n 'keep fish ( the trout ).
  4. Stock Chronarch 50 Mg + GLoomis CR722 IMX + 8 lbs Pline CXX/Yozuri Hybrid----> match made in heaven for lighter baits Stock Chronarch 50 Mg + Citica 100 DSV spool + GLoomis CR723 IMX + 10/12 Pline CXX/ Yozuri Hybrid ----> match made in heaven for the more heavier stuff Setting for the lighter stuff --> 2 on, 4 off Setting for the more heavier stuff ---> 3 on, 3 off Spool tension ---> that depends on how educated your thumb is, I like RW apply very little tension, just enough to deter the spool from moving sideways.
  5. The absolute worst guides I 've ever experienced are the ones found in my first rod ever, just a bent wire with guide shape, similar to a Recoil guide but on VERY MUCHO EL CHEAPO side. After that anything barely better is a lot much better.
  6. Slowing down doesn 't necessarily mean cast and wet your bait for two hours before moving it, slowing down means a lot of things, sometimes it may mean to retrieve your bait at arthritic snail pace, other times it may mean working a place or spot methodically over and over again piece by piece, square inch by square inch instead of machine gunning an entire area. Other times it may mean milking spots in within a larger surface.
  7. Well, I think that the fact that most of the 20 lbs pound fish come from Cali means only that Cali keeps good track of it 's fisheries like in the rest of the good ole USA, in other countries such track in keeping records is also common, countries like Japan and most countries in Europe, in other countries such thing is not the norm but the exception, the only thing you have to do is to cross the southern border and you 'll see what I 'm talking about, in Mexico in practical terms nobody keeps track of the fish caught, there are very few IGFA certified scales, very few IGFA officials, there 's little or none infrastructure to keep a good track of the fish, the Mexican "Record" is 19+ pounds and no other fish has ever been submitted to my knowledge and there are a big bunch of mexican lakes that produce 10+ lbs fish with regularity, one of those lakes is not far from my home town ( 2 hour drive ) and only a few people know about it. If that happens on the neighbooring country you can 't ask miracles out of a poor country like Cuba, if Mexico doesn 't have the infrastructure Cuba has it less. What you know about a country like let 's say South Africa ? not much, however South Africa has some serious fish and countries like that there are a lot. Wanna see what you can catch at Calderón ( the lake I was talking about ) ? take a look at this fish:
  8. They are the same bait, using the same formula, made in the same factory by Dad Gary Yamamoto for his son Derek Yamamoto, the only differences are the color chart and the mold, the Flash has the Kinami wave molded on the egg sack, the senko has a smooth eggsack. The difference is in what you think, I have both brands, have fished with both brands and they are the same.
  9. Think about this, I fish with TDZs, Pixies, Alphas, Chronarchs n 'such I think it 's a great reel, it was a great 70 dollars reel, at $30 is a no brainer deal.
  10. My favorite bait for practically any rig is a Trickworm.
  11. This one: And now at 35 bones, it 's a no brainer deal.
  12. For what I saw them Cuban bass must be as dumb as rocks, you should see the plugs the guys use to fish, a fish that bites such primitive plugs must be as dumb as a rock. I don 't think they stand a chance against a well designed modern bait.
  13. Abundant tilapia ( multiple species ) like in Mexico Matt, that 's what bass eat mostly, plus bluegills, native cyprinids, carp, the tropical climate of the island suits tilapia well ( they multiply a lot ). Anglers don 't fish for sport, they fish for food and about they guys, it 's like jumping into a time machine and going back to the 50 's, that 's the kind of tackle they use plus lots of self made lures. 20 pounders is a possibility but I wouldn 't bet on it, they do have some big fish but I didn 't see anything out of the ordinary ( being "ordinary" fish in the 8-12 pounds range ). Cuban bass in many aspects is like Mexican bass, they grow fast, short and wide, their methabolism is always on the run, so I don 't think that they will live long enough to reach full growth potential ( warm climate, catch n 'keep and lack of conservation practices ). I heard that lately that the Cuban government has plans for a couple of lakes, the plan is to turn them into something sort of a Meca for bass fishermen from around the world, the plan includes banning gill net fishing, establishing conservation practices and building the infrastructure to make them attractive to tourists but that 's what I heard, I can 't provide more information. Too bad I wasn 't there to fish, I bet if I had taken some gear ( plus my knowledge and skill ) I would have made a killing, them Cuban bass must be dumber than rocks.
  14. For weightless rigging and swimming the bait a 5/0 EWG Super Line hook, the added weight of the heavy ga of the hook stabilizes the bait and deters it from rotating around. For other rigging methods a regular 4-5/0 EWG is fine.
  15. Backing is a must when spooling braided line to avoid line slipping and digging in, line slippage causes "ghost drag".
  16. We talk to each other in Spanish, curious isn 't it ? The kids ? well that depends, the best way to describe the "in trouble/whinning" language would be ........ Spanglish.
  17. Know your baits, know your prey and you 'll be closer.
  18. Here 's a fun fact for you to chime on, ok, I speak Spanish and English, but something happens in my mind, when I hear English being spoken ( like in a movies ) my brain switches to English ( even though for obvious reasons the picture is subtitled in Spanish ) so I don 't read the subtitles, my mind ignores them, I listen to the movies, I can 't help it, I hear English I go into English mode, this causes me a little bit of trouble with the significant other beacuse when the kids are making noise I increase the volume of the TV to listen to the movie or program I 'm watching, so the kids are loud, the TV is loud and my wife goes nutz: Hey ! can 't you lower the volume ?!?!, > it 's got subtitles you can read !!!!! WTH ? :-? Now imagine a movie spoken in German, with subtitles in English, Spanish and German Cluttered and mindblogging at the same time. Another funny fact about the Guti érrez family, my wife is American ( latino ), speaks English and Spanish, I 'm mexican/american, speak English and Spanish, wife talks to the kids in Spanish, I speak to them in English, kids watch TV some programs in English, others in Spanish. Kids speak to their mom in Spanish and to me in English. Call us crazy but that 's how we are. ;D
  19. Cuba has the weather, the forage base, the places, the genetics to grow giant bass, what Cuba lacks of is CONSERVATION, in Cuba everything is catch n 'keep, so the chances of a fish growing to the 20+ lbs mark are slim, it will be caught and eaten long before it can reach that size. I 've been to Cuba ( not to fish ) several times and have visited Lebrije & Habanilla lakes just to see whassup and man they do have big feesh, only problem is that they end up in the frying pan. :-/
  20. No season here, you can fish for bass all year round.
  21. I heve seen it several times, good movie, the only thing I dislike is having to read subtitles, specially when, like in my case, you have subtitles in English and in Spanish on the screen at the same time. :-/
  22. this is not true. I have used both extensively and the senkos are much softer and have much more wiggling action as they fall. I'm not saying they are made by two completely different companies, but the material they are made up of is definitely different. Dude, it has been discussed ad nauseum and confirmed by GYCB pro staffers and by GYCB itself, GYCB Senko and Kinami Flash is the same bait. READ
  23. The Kinami Flash and the GYCB are the same bait, the only differences between both are: 1.- the color chart 2.- the Flash has the Kinami wave molded on the eggsack. So when you purchase a bag of Kinami Flash you are actually purchasing a bag of GYCB Senkos I like Dingers for everyday use.
  24. The spinnerbait I fish the most is a single Tennesse blade, in second place a single Willowleaf, and even though I have a bunch of spinnerbaits with different blade configurations I seldomly use them. So in practical terms, yes you can fish most of the time with only one spinnerbait blade configuration.
  25. Before buying why don 't you ask ? You only need to write to BPS ( Outdoor reel & repair ) and ask if the handle you want is compatible with your reel, the only thing you 'll waste is a little time, you won 't waste any money.
