It was a small river. This fish was in post spawn, in mid may. Caught near a shallow flat in 6ft of water. And caught on a Blue fox shallow vibrax size 0 in blue shad. It was about 2pounds and 16.5". Biggest I've seen on this river!
It was a throw up beetween the lightning rod and the tourney special. that $15 difference gives me room in my budget. i think i will pick the lightning rod. Is it a light(weight) rod?
Im a big fan of dead sticking and twitching small (3" sticko's) in my local river. I want a good rod that will get the job done. I was thinking of the new Bass pro tourney special in 6'6 medium light. I pretty much use weightless 3" sticko's and craws and some spinners, if that helps at all.
We are the only ones that venture out in the creek. But I caught them in a popular hole. It gets 5.5' deep. I've spent days in that creek trying to caching another one. I will try during spring.
I generally throw...
Super fluke jrs
F2 craw papi (2.75" craw color)
a few blue fox spinners
And sometimes a rebel craw, but its normally too deep for it
I fish a creek, mostly for cats and sunfish. But i have caught 2 yearling Largies. Shouldn't there be more largemouth? It's not near the main river, and the main river is all smallmouth. It baffled me, and I wanna see bigger ones.
Ok now it's getting to the point I don't fish, and Hurricane Sandy is going to suck up my river. I'm looking for a good ultra light under 75$. I now you might be saying " they suck!" But I love little rebel craws and 2" grubs. It mostly my fun summer rod. Thanks
Thanks for the tips everyone. I think im going to buy a strike king mini pro buzz.. My stream has a few good smallmouth in it, and lots of changing structure. I hope the buzzbait lets me fish all the places, and catch all the fish.
I've seen many videos on topwater river/stream smallmouth. Most, if not all, use the 1/8oz rebel popper. I would like to hear from people that use this lure, and catch big (16+") smallmouth. My confidence in this bait is low, and I know it would work. please help me.

I've been largemouth fishing 3 times. And it's sad when I get a better fight from a 9 inch smallmouth than a 15 inch largie. Enough said.( I also live near a good smallie river!)
Today, I was fishing a private pond and caught a BEUTEY at around 8 pounds. But I caught it on a chartreuse 3" bps stick-o nose hooked with #2 hook. Also it was caught on 8 pound lineThis is a small set up and yet caught a giant. Has anyone had luck with little lures and lighter line? Or is it just me:)
