  1. Sorry I worded it incorrectly. I actually have never fished for salmon, but I was referring to bass/pike, walleye, trout, and crappie which I fish for 99.9999% of the time. Sorry for the mix-up! I am going to order the dh3000z! Thanks for the help guys, Mike
  2. Hello, I just recently bought a kistler micro helium spinning rod and am looking to pair it up with a wavespin DHz reel. On the rod it "limits" line rating from 12-17 lb. the wavespin dh 3000z has a "limit" from 6-10 lb, but the 4000z has a "limit" from 8-12 lbs. there is a chart on wavespin.com that says the 3000z is best suited for bass/pike, walleye, trout, panfish, crappie, and salmon which is what I fish for 99.999999% of the time. The 3000z's recommended line rating doesn't go to 12 lb though! And the 4000z is suited for bass/pike, musky, catfish, and salmon and I fish for bass, trout, and walleye most of the time! Is it okay to put 10 lb test on a rod rated for 12 lbs? By the way the rod has micro guides if that were to effect anything! Thanks, Mike Here's the link to the specs http://www.wavespinreel.com/specs.html
  3. Just to let you guys know I got a good deal on a shimano curado 201 e7 from the flea market for $142 to my door!! When, and if, it arrives I will tell you how I like it, even though there are 50 billion threads about the reel! Thanks for all your help, Mike
  4. Alright.....I will look around and head to my local bps or dsg. Thanks guys! More suggestions are welcomed!
  5. Hello all, If you haven't heard kistler is having a bogo offer and I couldn't resist. Bought myself a helium spinning rod and when I came to choosing my free mag rod I didn't know what to get! I don't have a baitcaster and really think I need one so I grabbed this: New 2012 Micro Magnesium All Purpose Med-Heavy 6' 9" Cast http://www.kistlerrods.com/p/fishing-rod/c-Mic-Magnesium-Fishing-Rods/MicMgAPSMH69.html Seemed like a good rod to start with and I got it for free! Now I need a reel! From my extensive spinning rod experience I know that shimano, Abu Garcia, and pflueger make nice reels. What should I get? Preferably under 100, but I can stretch my budget to $150 maybe Thanks, Mike
  6. Alright well I headed back to dicks and added a ganakatsu extra wide gap (ewg) 3/0 hook, and an owner ewg 4/0 hook just to test them both out and see which I like better. I also got 10 1/8 oz worm weights (bullet weights is what I think their called, but they situate just above the worm when you slip it on the fishing line) and also 10 1/16 oz worm weights. The 1/8 oz sinks a worm pretty darn fast right? That's why I got the 1/16 also. I will be ordering some Gary yamamoto senkos, and rage tail anacondas sometime. Maybe add a few other rage tail, since they're so highly regarded! Thanks you guys for all the help! Sincerely, Mike
  7. Well alrighty then! Thank you roadwarrior for the VERY in depth response! One more question....Do you guys use scent on your worms? I have tried MegaStrike and yum crawfish flavor scents. What are your thoughts?
  8. I completely agree with everyone about the senkos and hooks. The problem was when I asked the person in the fishing section about where I could get senko worms he gave me this blank stare. I repeated senko worms, and he says he doesn't know what they are. So I figured I would just come back and order some high quality senkos off the Internet. Before this I asked him about hooks that would match with a 5"-7" worm and immediately he said a 2/0 hook. Now I didn't know too much about hooks and their sizes, so I trusted him. When I returned to my house I immediately hopped on the forum to solve all my "questions" I had. Sure enough Ip,y gut feelings were correct. Oh well. The one good thing the dicks employee did well was picking the owner type of hook. This forum regards them very highly on their hook sets, and performance. Now I just need larger of the hooks I got! Any regards on the roboworms? Dicks had a couple of packs that released salt, so when the fish nibble they like the taste and engulf the whole worm. Thoughts? Regards, Mike
  9. Hello all, Today I went down to the local dicks to get some of my first lures. I took a keen interest in fishing last summer, when I found a small lake about 15 minutes away from my house. It is well stocked with fish (especially largemouth bass!), and I managed to last the summer with cheapo worm, tube, and creature lures. Now that summer has rolled around I decided to head to dicks and get myself some good quality lures that will be very versatile. I stuck with name brands (rapala, rebel, strike king, berkley, etc), but I want to hear some feedback and I have some questions for you guys to answer! Here is the list of the lures I got. Strike king chartreuse/white spinnerbait (d38cw-3) Strike king series 3 chartreuse sexy shad crankbait Rebel foxy mama POP-R Rapala rippin rap loud rattling chartreuse shad (rpr-5) Berkley power bait grn pumpkin 5" power shaky worm Berkley power bait plum 7" power worm (ribbon tail worm) Zoom super salt plus finesse watermelon red magic (doesn't say length but relative to the 5" I would say it is also right near 5") All paired with 8 lb clear suffix elite monofilament And for the worms I got owner offset worm wide gap 2/0 (I realized after purchase that I should have bought a 3/0 and 4/0 and not just 2/0. Oh well I can stop by for a quick hook purchase.) What are some good colors for a pretty clear lake? Does the scent on the berkley power bait ACTUALLY work? And I was curious about a finesse worm so I bought it. What exactly is it? I just wanted a very attention attracting worm (basically its tail shakes a lot when Texas and wacky rigged), but I didn't exactly know what the finesse worm was, and dicks had it in a good color so I snagged it so can you fill me in? Finally how do you think I did on the purchasings? Anything I should substitute for a different product next time? Anything "essential" I should add? Thanks, Mike
  10. I have been looking in the flea market and skey44 (trusted seller) has a cumara up for $140! Seems like a good mix between the compre and the crucial. Am I right?
  11. Thanks for the quick contribution to the thread! You did pick the most durable rod and reel in your opinion, cut I actually miss stated how durable I wanted.....I just don't want a rod that will cause me trouble, unless it is my fault. I don't want the guides to break because a fish hits the bait aggressively. I don't want the rod to snap when pulling it out of thin brush, or when a 20lb fish comes on the line. I want a DEPENDABLE rod, not a brick of a rod haha. I do want some sensitivity, and less weight, but I also want a durable rod. It seems like an oxymoron, but what are some rods that you think are great all around. This is why I am leaning towards the shimano compre, since it has a great backbone, but because of this backbone it has only decent sensitivity and will last awhile, especially with the shimano warranty. I have been reading (http://www.tackletour.com/reviewshimanocompre.html) some stuff and the compre seems like a great rod. I am now down to specifics, such as the balance of the compre with a 3000 size reel on it (wavespin dh 3000z)? How do you compare the crucial and compre to each other for the fishing I will mostly be doing(mostly flicking the senko worms, but I will probably end up using jigs, jerk baits, swim baits, spinner bait, and tube haha)? I know th crucial is more sensitive, but has notably less backbone, which is one main thing I need. A strong backbone. Thanks again, Mike
  12. Hello everyone, I am a new fellow to this forum so let me know if I did any rules wrong regarding this forum . I am in the market for an incredibly versatile rod and reel combo. This would be the set up I would keep, if for some reason rods and reels suddenly stopped being produced and such you couldn't buy any rods and reels. First attribute I would want is a VERY durable SPINNING rod that would last a LONGGGGG time (warranty not in play). second attribute I would want is an incredibly versatile rod, since I would still want to catch all kinds of fish! And to finish off the rod attributes I would want all the other things to come into play (sensitivity, feel, weight, etc), but it doesn't matter as much as the first two attributes. For the SPINNING reel I would want hassle free dependability and versatility. What are your thoughts? Price range is under $250. Remember this is a spinning rod and reel! I was thinking of a medium 6'6"-7' fast/x fast shimano clarus, compre, or crucial paired with a wavespin reel. I definitely want to give the wavespin a try, so I doubt you guys can talk me out of the wavespin reel (I was specifically thinking of the DH 3000z or maybe something a little smaller, since I mainly fish out of a small lake in the mountains that mostly has fish <20 lbs.). I am completely open on rods though! Because this situation isn't happening I picked shimano for dependability and their GREAT warranty and customer service? If this situation was really happening what would you pick? Regards, Mike
