Here is my input, take it or leave it. I've been fishing for over 40 years, and I've used every type of line you can think of and some you never heard of, as I'm pretty sure your a MUCH younger person than myself.
Trilene XL has been around forever, and is as good a line or better then any. It works equally as good on spinning reels as it does on baitcast gear. Trilene XT is great for baitcast gear as it is tougher and more abrasion resistant.
Braid, with or without a mono or flouro leader. This option will handle ALL your fishing needs other than cranking or topwater or spinner baits. For these I like mono.
Forget all the hoopla about lines absorbing water, and all the other foolishness associated with lines, and go catch fish.
People get way too hung up on what the Pros are using, and telling you to use... they get paid to tell you this, and make you run out to buy the newest and improved line. I catch as many fish as I ever have on the same line I've been using for 40+ years. There are WAY too many lines on the market today IMO.
If you need to use line conditioner on any line, it's not worth a dime.
