  1. Also, 20# braid is sooooo small in diameter that it digs into itself on the spool after landing a sizable fish,or ripping one out of the junk....
  2. One thing I do not like about this rod is the reel seat, it su**s........ Also when considering micro guides, do not plan to use a Floro leader as the braid to Floro knot will not pass through the guides cleanly.
  3. I know your interested in the Diesel and a few others, but have you considered the Berkley Lightning Shock rod? For $39.00 at Walmart the rod is just a great deal. I have a 7' MH casting model and it throws weightless plastics, hollow frogs, and 1/4oz jigs with ease. It has a soft tip, but plenty of backbone , and it has very good feel. Just a thought.
  4. If it's the Field & Stream Tec Spec rod I have one and it's a very good rod. Mine is 6'8" M XF and it is an excellent rod for the money.
  5. Just curious as to how many use spinning gear for froggin? I use both baitcast and spinning gear when throwing frogs, and both work fine. What rods are you using, and what are the specs? My frog rigs are: St. Croix Ledgend Series 6'6" MH XF, BPS Pro Qualifier and 50# Power Pro (red). Shimano Sellus 7'2" MH XF Pflueger President 30# Power Pro (green).
  6. Cut the skirt off and see if you can get a little more distance LOL...... Just kidding, don't do that. I would have to say you would get a bit more distance without the skirt cause there would be less drag. I do not think it's an issue though. I cast all my frogs 25-30 yards using baitcast gear, and I can throw them further if needed. Work on your accuracy, and don't get so caught up on distance.
  7. If you add weight they will sink, or sit too low in the water. You should have no problem with casting distance with the correct rod.
  8. I use 50# braid with a 7' MH and a 7'2" MH rod. Use the walk-the-dog or popping retrieve. If they are hitting topwater they will hit the frog.
  9. I have the Black Max and it's one heck of a reel for $50.00 I have been fishing the life out of mine, and it is as smooth and quiet as day one. My BPS Qualifier has been taking the back seat to the Black Max, go figure.
  10. I did recommend the Sellus and feels it's a great rod for the money. The above poster states that the Sellus doesn't even compare to the other two, but I disagree. It is a tad bit heavier but it has great sensitivity, and balance and handles very well. You also need to consider that it's half the cost of the others as well. If you truly want to buy a rod that's worth $50.00 or more than the Sellus get a Powell cause I do not feel the the other two are worth $50.00 more than the Sellus. The Powell is a bit more than $100.00 but put the money in the rod and a bit less in the reel.
  11. For enthusiasts, technique specific gear is fun to collect. However, three rigs cover all the basics: #1 6 1/2' or 7' MH baitcaster for jigs, some soft plastics and spinnerbaits #2 6 1/2' or 7' MM baitcaster for treble hook lures #3 7' MF spinning rod for lighter lures and a variety of techniques Beat you to it Roadwarrior LOL...... Sorry, I just had to I could not resist.
  12. I throw pretty much any color frog on red Power Pro and have no issue.
  13. Connect your braid to the floro with an Alberto knot. The knot is easy to tie, and will allow you to reel it through the guides allowing for a leader almost as long as your rod.
  14. Pflueger President, end of story.
  15. Yep, all the time......
  16. Does this guy like fishing frogs or what? LOL. He has some good tips for those who know nothing about frogs.
  17. Would you not have to send a copy of the original receipt? I would imagine if you did not purchase the rod originally, you will not have the receipt.
  18. My son and I went to BPS today to return the Sticks O's...... every bag was the same, not pliable and way too firm. The funny thing is, it's only the red shad color that has this problem. I checked most of the other colors, and they were very soft and pliable. I just ended up getting my usual black with blue flake and blue tail. I explained to them the issue with them, and they said no one else complained so the must be fine. Whatever, they can have them and sell them to someone who doesn't care or know any better.
  19. If it's a Pflueger it's a great reel period, what more do you need to know?
  20. Let's see some of your froggin water....... Here is where I do most of my froggin. Uploaded with ImageShack.us Uploaded with ImageShack.us Uploaded with ImageShack.us
  21. Are you looking for a Spinning or Baitcast rod?
  22. I cast righty and have always reeled with my right hand till three weeks ago. After 35 years of reeling righty with a baitcaster I made the switch three weeks ago and glad I did. I had it down within a couple hours and it feel like I've been doing it this way forever. Give it a try.
  23. X2 I have the Sellus 7'2" MH Extra Fast and it is my go-to rod. I also have the Berkley Shock rod 7' MH Fast and it is a very nice rod as well, and it's $39.00 at Walmart. These are your best bet!
